Seeds Bistro and Bar

I don’t normally do reviews, but this was so bad I feel the need to comment. Sheer incompetence at every level. Started with incredibly slow service. There were 4 of us, 3 ordered salads, and I ordered fish and chips. Over an hour later our waitress is apologizing for the delay, and saying it is taking longer than normal to cook the meat. What does that even mean???
Twenty minutes after that we finally got our meals. She apologized profusely and said they had new help in the kitchen. While my Fish and Chips were in fact OK, one of the salads was prepared with steak on it, and the steak had no warmth to it at all. One person had chicken added to her Asian Salad, and while it was warm, it was also covered with a significant amount of spices which were not mentioned on the menu, and she could not eat it. The waitress said the chicken was marinated, and that she would get a fresh piece of plain chicken have it grilled and brought right out. The rest of us finished our meals before the chicken was brought to the table. In the meantime, she was trying to pick the spicy chicken out of the salad and discovered that the spinach was not fresh at all. Her chicken finally showed up, but by that time she was upset enough that she really didn’t want to eat anything.
i suggested that the manager should comp the entire meal. The manager came to the table and strung together several excuses for why this had occurred, including being too busy. She offered to cut the bill in half. We paid it, and the other half of payment is this review!

I’ve been to Seeds about 4 times over the course of the last 3.5 years. Unfortunately the last two times we’ve been, I noticed they have two HUGE TVs in the second room, both of which are always playing some disturbingly scary movie, and is not at all something I want to be glancing at while I am eating and conversing over yummy food. That is the only reason for lacking one star.
First time: I clearly didn’t know what to order or know how gluten-​free savy they are. The salad was good, but underwhelming and a small portion. Everyone’s food looked great and was well recieved.
Second time: A big group of us plus my family. I got their mashed potatoes and the farmer? burger. OMG. It was so delicious and a very good decision when you need some carbs in your life.
Third time: Date night — we both got burgers with fries. It was delicious, but the avocado on my burger was really lacking, ie small. Burger was slighty dry and needed more salt. I’d seen this burger come out of the kitchen before and what I got was not expected. No bun because I’m gluten-​free. He thoroughly enjoyed his burger and woofed it down. I liked the fries and they didn’t make me sick like some fries can.
Fourth time: Date late late lunch about 4pm ish, «linner» or «drunch»?? Got the turkey chutney sandwich on GF bread. The bread should be sliced slightly thicker, and they should apply the sauce within the components vs not directly on the bread so the bread stays together and doesn’t become soggy and fall apart. Gluten-​free bread had great flavor and was delicious, but didn’t hold up well. I used my fork mostly. He got the special asparagus quiche with a side salad and coffee, and said the quiche was very delicious. The crust on it looked fantastic. The cilantro-​lime dressing he chose for the salad he said was actually pleasantly spicy.
Great selection of food, and LOVE the old-​time atmosphere and location, despite the TVs. Great date night, or night to bring your family and just enjoy eachother’s company and talk. Love how they are gluten-​free friendly.

Things have really improved since my last review. Sooo happy! Shared calamari app, fish tacos, baked, and sour cream lemon pie. Happy again. Especially improved: light coating perfectly cooked. Best meal here in awhile.

We made plans to drive out to Seeds for lunch based on a friends recommendation. We had our pup with us so specifically ensured it was ok to bring her. The website indicates that they are pet friendly. Since it was a Wednesday afternoon, it was not busy. The patio area was completely empty but the hostess refused to seat us. She indicated that they were not willing to seat us in the patio. I asked that since the website indicated that they allowed pets, and since we’d driven all the way out from Seattle if they would seat us. She refused, was rude & unapologetic. We were disappointed that we were treated so poorly, particularly on a slow day mid week. Customer service is incredibly important, and clearly under valued at this restaurant.

Stopped here after the Tulip Festival and got a table before the crowds rushed in. Good selection of local beers. Yummy, locally-​sourced foods. We got Oyster Shooters, the BBQ Burger and the Meatloaf Sandwich. The fries were some of the best we’ve had in a long time!

It is my mom’s favorite spot, and so we went as a family in order to enjoy an afternoon out. The service was great, very friendly wait staff. Seated right away, and order was taken pretty quickly. Good took a little longer than expected, but it was worth the wait. Had the BBQ Pepper Bacon Burger, and it was tremendous. The bacon was perfect, beef was great, sauces added to the flavor, not detract. Fries were fantastic. You have to try the Gorgonzola Cream Dressing as a dipping sauce. Can’t wait to go back.

Great little spot with organic food choices. The server had the customer experience top of mind as she worked the bar and served all of us. She managed it well. I asked for prawns on my salad instead of chicken and that was not a problem. The prawns were grilled and the salad was fresh and delicious. A nice selection of wine and a full bar. Off the main boardwalk so it’s not over crowded with tourists. Very relaxed atmosphere.

BUYER BEWARE.
Enter at 315 on Saturday the 16^th. As We wait to be seated there is a sign going up on the door that says the restaurant will be closed 4pm to 5pm.
We get seated and are given menus and waters. Everyone else around us is having their order taken when our waitress shows up to tell us that they are closed. What the hell?!? Why seat us then? No explanation. No apology.
Avoid like the plague.

I had the blackened cod tacos and they were delicious! The waitress was so kind and genuinely helpful! Everything on the menu looked delicious! Also, if you don’t like tartar sauce, ask for the lime cilantro dressing because it tastes amazing on the tacos!

As good a fish taco as I have ever had. Wife got the portobello mushroom quesadilla was great too.

Fantastic brunch and lunch spot, and I can’t wait to return for dinner and drinks one night! I got the fish burger, which is basically an epic cod sandwich on a bun. Everything about the burger was delicious, even the bun! The fish was cooked perfectly, and it was a huge slab of fish. It will be hard to order something different in the future, but I’ll have to try ;) Others in my party had sandwiches, soups, and desserts. Everything looked awesome and my friends reported that their food tastes great. Their desserts look super, too, and it seemed like a lot of patrons ordered milkshakes. I saw vegetarian and vegan options, even for dessert, and I appreciated that they had a huge selection of food on their menu. GO EARLY! We arrived at 11:45 and narrowly beat the lunch rush.

Today I went to seeds with a bunch of my friends. It was my second time there.. .the first time I think I had a burger and wasn’t wowed by it.. .seems it had something I didn’t like like sweet pickles or dijon mustard or something but this time I got the Asian Chicken Salad and it was very tasty! Good sized and has a wonderful mix of soy and sweet dressing and wontons and a delicious juicy chicken too :) I also tasted the raspberry jam and toast and the bread and butter.. .both great too. It was a nice place for a group and they do take reservations. Thanks for the nice place to celebrate our friend’s birthday.

Been here only one time but it was amazing. From the service to the food. We will most definitely be back.

The staff is very friendly, the food was OK. I got the Mac n Cheese and it left a lot to be desired. Their salad is great and their dressing is amazing.

Why hello perfection in La Conner! Why did it take me so long to find you?
Pros?
So many delicious options, you could come here hundreds of times and still not try all the variety
The bloody Mary’s were some of the best I’ve had
Fresh, fresh, and did I say fresh?
Friendly service, with knowledge of their products
Homemade soups to die for
Crab cakes filled with endless amounts of crab
Comfortable bright interior with plenty of seating

Arrived without reservations on an obviously very busy night. Cheerful hostess let us know a table would be an hour but we could sit at the bar right away which we accepted.
The staff was hustling and in positive helpful mood but they were overwhelmed.
Ordered oyster shot appetizers and was disappointed. Appreciated the effort on the presentation but the oysters just didn’t taste fresh like Im accustomed to in Bellingham.
Was blown away by the huge serving sizes. My wife ordered burger and fries which was really good. My fish tacos were underwhelming in flavor, pretty bland and boring.
I will definitely try this place again when in the area. I saw other meals like the meatloaf pass by and they looked dang good. And the staff is upbeat and helpful.

Had a great dinner here recently. Service was very good, the food was delicious and the ambiance cute and comfy.
We tried the jalapeño poppers– tasty and filling, flavorful and not too spicy. The crab cakes were good but I would have preferred more lumps of pure crab, less bread crumbs. The Caesar salad was great.

This was a real disappointment. First of all one of the attractions on our trip to La Conner was to see the Tillinghast Seed Company. I had read about it in a book (copyright 2011 just purchased from Costco) but apparently it was gone since the 90’s.
OK so next we see one of the replacement is Seeds Bistro — a quaint Bistro that had huge Cream Puffs. I have been tricked by Cream Puffs before so I asked are they real and is the whipped cream real. I was told definitely. My wife and I ordered one to split and two hot chocolates.
First issue — The Chocolate (note I did not say hot) arrived in plastic cups — even though they knew we were staying — really — you would think a place like this would have real cups. Next it was cold — not just slightly cold but due to the amount of time we waited for it — I am guessing they forgot our order — although they were not busy. It was also very watered down and neither of us finished the drink.
Second — in my opinion — the cream puff is fake. I know you can fill the puff with many things but when a customer inquires about the inside — shouldn’t they be honest. It does have some whipped cream but the majority is custard. I would think when a customer inquires about the ingredients — you should mention that fact — since it is one of the major components.
We would have complained but we were eating on their deck and they never came out to check — (possibly too embarrassed :)).
Suggestion is to just go into town — there are much nicer places to spend your money. There is noting unique about this place except the high price for disappointment.
