The owner went to great lengths to make sure I was a happy customer when there was an issue with my order — and the issue was not even his fault. I am very, very thankful for the extra time and care that was put into my order. The customer service was above and beyond what I had expected, and I absolutely love my products!!! I would definitely recommend supporting this wonderful business and its charming hand crafted products!

Love handcrafted wood items — this place is like a Mecca! They carry many beautifully made wood products from over 200 artisans… I was impressed by the wide variety from full furniture pieces like benches, tables, and rocker chairs to cute puzzle pieces and looking glasses good for kids. The rocker chairs are incredibly comfortable and of the highest quality — can see them easily lasting 100+ years. Many of the smaller pieces come in multiple varieties of wood… If you like wood handcrafts this shop can’t be beat!

I love the products in here soooooo much! The jewelry boxes look so awesome with the wood! It may be pricey but so worth it. I found some nice wooden cooking utensils that I can use on camping trips with the cast iron. They are made of olive wood and are sturdy as well as beautiful. They also have awesome cutting boards here. Everything here is very high quality. Friendly owners.

Talk about true pride in your craft. Man this place is beautiful. I could never afford anything in this store, it’s very expensive. But the prices seem worthy of the quality and workmanship put into everything. If your in La Conner, stop in here. Even if your not going to buy anything. This store will help you appreciate furniture that wasn’t assembled from an IKEA cardboard box.

I don’t get to La Conner too too often but when I do I find myself pulled into The Wood Merchant. I love woodworking and in my mind I’m an aspiring artist so I appreciate the hours and hours of fine artistry it takes for the maker to create the items that are sold here. I’m also more of a minimalist than not and functionality is important to me which is why I love that much of the woodworking here isn’t only beautiful but it’s FUNCTIONAL. The spoons, the business card holders, the games, the knife holders, the jewelry chests, the bowls, the rocking chairs. My customer service experiences have been positive. TIP: Adore the Swedish Door Harps. TIP: This is not the place for unruly, ill-behaved, or unattended children as everything begs to be touched and many of the items are very costly. Whether you appreciate fine woodwork or just love nice rockers and bowls and spoons and stuff, don’t leave La Conner without checking out the inspiring insides of The Wood Merchant.

We have been stopping to shop at the Wood Merchant for years. The quality of the products is outstanding from the furniture right down to some of the tiny puzzle boxes. Almost everything in the store is both functional and beautiful and there are some exceptional examples of marquetry. This is truly a unique store.

Imagine being on vacation 2,300 mi away and loosing your beloved dog ! Our airline wanted twice the original round-trip price so we could go home early to take care of his body and grieve with our remaining dog… what does this have to do with The Wood Merchant? Well, let me tell you. So we had our precious baby boy cremated since we could not be there to bury him. The crematory said they would place him in what sounded like a horrid plastic box in basically what can be described as a sandwich bag. So we wanted to find a permanent container to place his cremains in and searched the Internet for a craftsman who made suitable containers. Our Google search led us to La Conner, WA, which was not exactly on our way back to Seattle from Anacortes, but it was totally worth the small detour. After a beautiful picturesque drive into La Conner we found The Wood Merchant and upon walking in, a sweet gentleman greeted us and we explained(in tears) what we needed. He was totally comforting(I thought he was going to hug me) and showed us all he had to offer. He let us pet his own sweet puppy which naps on the counter which cheered us up immensely. After finding the perfect box we got on our way to Seattle so we could fly home to be with our other dog. The box, made from burl maple, padauk and walnut, is a perfect final resting place for our beloved Great Dane, Trooper. We could not have been more pleased!

We’ve purchased several pieces from The Wood Merchant and each one has a perfect spot in our home from the carved pelican’s to the bench in our entryway. In comparison to other furnishing shops, the prices are comparable, maybe slightly higher but the quality of the workmanship far surpasses that of anything you would find in a store such as Macy’s or Samuels in Ferndale, WA. Dollar for dollar, buy the quality that this shop offers in their products. It’s worth the little bit extra and the pieces that you purchase will be in your family for generations.

This place has some amazing pieces of art, furniture and gifts. That said, I wont be giving them my business because of an experience I had today with who appeared to be one of the owners. We stopped in at around 10:30am this morning and browsed around. My friend came across a beautifully crafted dachshund puzzle and, being a doxie lover, was very interested in it. My friend asked the woman if they would put it on hold for the day. She asked, «Why do you want to put it on hold?» Slightly taken aback, my friend explain that we had just begun looking around and would like some time to think about it. So the woman agreed and put it on the back counter. After perusing other shops and deciding to buy the dog after all, we returned to the shop about three and a half hours later. Lo and behold, the puzzle was back out on display, no longer on hold for us. Additionally, there was an actual small dog sleeping on the counter, which my friend began petting and talking to. The woman from before told him, «Please don’t pet him, he’s trying to sleep.» And that was that. We walked out of the shop without buying anything. Had the woman not given us grief about putting the item on hold, kept her word about holding it for us, and either put her dog somewhere else to sleep or not been rude about petting him, this review would be much different. My friend will be purchasing the puzzle directly from the artist.

WOW! Seriously. WOW. This place has some truly amazing works of art made with wood. Wood Merchant, If I had a million dollars I’d buy you a fur coat, but not a real fur coat that’s cruel. Sigh. Seriously Wood Merchant, I WOULD buy your love. At least I would try my best and if I didn’t buy your love I would at the very least buy a ton of stuff from you! Wood watches? Totally awesome for someone like me who is severely allergic to metal. I could go on and on about what they have, but it’s best if you go look for yourself. Enjoy! (Thank you Barenaked Ladies for providing the theme song to my review.)

I stopped here this afternoon. La Conner’s Halloween Parade was in full swing and it was fun to see the costumed kids come in the store for their candy. One of the owners and I laughed and shared stories about when we would ask for the trick before the kids got the treat. Usually a joke, a song, or a short jig would suffice. This is a very nice store, with a large and handsome selection of various wood products including furniture, boxes, mirrors, and smaller unique tchcotchkes. Most of it is very functional and would be welcome in many a home. I actually prefer the Wood Co-op on Granville Island in Vancouver BC, but this place is more than fine and worth the trip.

Soooo cool. The woodwork is absolutely beautiful, and they have a nice black yorkie-poo named Teddy, who’s very tolerant of visitors cooing over him as he sleeps on the counter. Striking artwork and utilitarian items of beauty.

My friend took me here, and it has some nice, but pricey things. I couldn’t take any pictures, but I saw things here similar to things I had seen at the Boulder Arts and Crafts Cooperative: painted, carved game tables and chairs. Very pricey, and the kind of thing you would expect in an «arty» kind of town. She loved the little wooden boxes, which she had never seen anywhere else, but I knew they were HeartWood boxes, from Rockford, IL, one of my old haunts. I ended up with a couple of cherry wood serving knives, because they will hold butter better when it is warm.

Amazing wood, both artistic and functional. The stuff is a little pricey, but it is of such good quality that it’s worth it! It’s like shopping in an art gallery!
