The food is fine but the place stinks and is in need of repairs. I know this is suppose to go with the whole vibe of the restaurant but no one wants to eat somewhere that feels dirty. Hippies like clean places too.

Stopped here for breakfast. We all had crepes and they were good but they are just crepes. Not sure if they were in the midst of a remodel but the place was looking a bit rough.

I stop in every few months for a chai tea and a crêpe. The staff is always pretty friendly. I’ve tried the food and everything I’ve had is delicious. I usually bring something to work on and hang out for while, my only complaint about this is that the smell of all the delicious food will drive you absolutely crazy and you’ll be tempted to just sit and eat. I’ve only seen one or two musicians here, but really enjoyed the selection of artists. The first time I went, the sound was so loud I thought my head was going to explode. The second time, I could barely hear. I guess if you’re into the musician, sit towards the middle. If you’re not, choose as far away from the stage as possible. There’s a general hipster vibe. I don’t know if that’s worth noting or not. But the usual occupants usually seem to consist of a few cute bearded guys at the bar, kids with apple computers and headphones(I’ve yet to see an HP or anything else in there — it’s weird), and a few guys with a guitar in a corner playing quietly. Sometimes food and drinks take a bit long… they’re always worth the wait, but it’s pretty inconsistent and I would not recommend it for a quick bite. And… this is kind of stupid, but I have a hard time knowing what’s self-serve/DIY and what isn’t. I’m probably an idiot, but I can’t figure out where to get water from and every time I ask for a glass of water someone vaguely points to a table around the corner. I see a big tank thing, which is cool looking I guess… but apparently I’m just too stupid to figure it out. When I get done eating, I sit there and I’m like… do I take this somewhere or will someone pick it up? Maybe I’m just kind of stupid, but I feel like this could be just a little bit more obvious.

One of the few places outside of Turtlestack Brewery to serve Turtlestack! Great coffee, good beer selection, cool venue, and chill vibe in the heart of downtown La Crosse!

Huge fan of this place. Amazing collection of events and live music to compliment the excellent coffee and beer selection. Large bowl of chili is a good deal and very delicious. Get to know the baristas and staff there. Most are extremely friendly and enjoy interacting with guests, both regulars and visitors alike. The raised window seat is best for working during the day, though can be a bit drafty.

Classic crêpe and black bean chili were delicious. Trendy hipster crowd. Enjoyed the live music Sunday noon.

Great food! Great atmosphere. Excellent beer and wine and coffee. Fun cocktail list. Good vegetarian options. I really like the Cremlin crêpe…cremini mushrooms, spinach, red onions, WI cheese and a fried egg on top with thyme and a nice pile of greens on the side. I was in La Crosse for a week for a conference and was thrilled to discover this place! The conference food sent me searching for good food and I found it at the Root Note. Local ingredients and beers and even WI wines! They had trivia night one night I was there and a great live band another night. What a gem! Wish there was a Root Note in my home town!

What a fantastic find in La Crosse. Found Root Note via Unilocal.Incredibly helpful staff talked us through the entire menu. Menu is small with each dish done expertly. Two savory crepes(baby blue and cremlin) and one sweet(banana Nutella) were tested by our family. Savory crepes served with perfectly sized and dressed simple salad. Every bite made you want to keep eating. A bowl of black bean soup was the best we’d ever had. A must stop in La Crosse.

After a long hot motorcycle ride from Chicago we found this perfect spot for dinner. We had the black bean chili and the blu cheese and egg crêpe. The perfect relaxing spot with the best chili we’ve had in years. Craft beers, wine, custom coffee. Perfection. Relaxing 70’s rock music and a claw foot tub filled with fish. Don’t miss. Within walking distance to the Mariott Waterfront hotel.

Yaaay!!! I love the Root Note! The food is delicious and the coffee is always perfect. Last time I was there I got a blueberry iced tea that I would drink every day of my life if i could. I’ve seen a few amazing bands at the Root Note too. I would recommend this place to anyone who was looking for a chill place to hang out and get a bite to eat.

This place is so cool! I would seriously go there ALL the time if I lived in LAX. I wish it was in Milwaukee instead! I loved the ambiance– it’s so hipster(and I am NOT so hipster) but I enjoyed it, regardless. It feels more like sweet old antiques store or a best-kept-secret local library crossed with a slightly surreal dream(bathtub full of fish) and a hint of up-North cabin flavor. I had a pour-over coffee, which was so delicious and smooth, and a cup of black bean chili with blue corn tortilla chips. I would have liked to order one of the famed crepes but I just needed a snack to tide me over until our event. I would also liked to have ordered a beer if time had provided– there are some nice looking microbrews on tap. This is one of those places where I would like to frequent to laze around and decompress with their good food and drink and a book. Maybe the Root Note warrants a road trip back to La Crosse.

Wow. We came here on a good friends invite. We knew the food would be great but wow were we impressed. We have visited and enjoyed the other restaurants attached to the root note crew, but the crepes here are top notch and deliciously created. There are sweet and not sweet selections. The great people that work here don’t act like they are working and are some of be most friendly people. The food is fresh and made to order. The coffee looks great and the beer selection is well thought out. We were here for breakfast but the music playing and the atmosphere was very inviting. Great job to the crew at the Note.

Great crepes, and a good beer list. I’m told that the coffee is excellent, but that will have to wait for a visit earlier in the day. There are 2 or 3 group seating areas, and a good number of small tables. The service was quick and excellent for our group. Overall a great place for a leisurely bite or beer.

I got the baby blu savory crêpe. Oh my goodness, it was amazing!!! It had just enough blue cheese that it didn’t over power the crêpe. There was fresh spinach, bell pepper, and green onion in it. The best part was the over easy egg inside! It’s so worth it. I think this is going to be my obsession for a while. I also ordered a hot chocolate, which is tasty. It was much better than cabin coffee but not as good as moka. The wheat grass shot was a very nice size, considering it was over $ 4 a shot. All three things cost about $ 17, but that crêpe hit the spot!

Not a great option if you’re in a hurry, but no better place to come and relax for a few hours. Amazing service, creative menu– with a short but impressive craft beer selection!- and great atmosphere. Must haves: the chili! And any craft cocktail that includes Wisco Pop’s Ginger Brew.

An unexpected hipster spot in the heart of downtown La Cross. Check out hand painted tub filled with goldfish(leave your cat at home, but bring your kid and some fish food). Crapes. Granola. Tea. Coffee. All excellent, made with care by awesome folks.
