So sad this place closed down. They do have a downtown location that is open still. Their corn on a stick and bacon wrapped jalapeños with cheese filling are awesome. I enjoyed their ‘breakfast’ style sandwiches with bacon and sausage. Definitely sad that this place didn’t cut it but it’s hard to make it in a mall food court environment with so many other cheap options.

Pay the extra $ 1 for the cheese filled bacon wrapped jalapeño. So yummy! Unfortunately when this place first opened the tortas were delicious and filled with a delicious filling. Now though the tortas seemed to have been made for a small child as small as they were. I was so dissapointed on the amount of food that I had received for the price. I’ll walk the few extra steps to the Subway on the other side of the food court next time if they don’t change back to the way they were before.

***UPDATE5.13.2013*** They’ve closed down. Oh man. Visited the mall the other day and saw their beautiful place totally boarded up. Regardless, buena suerte Boillo en el otro lugar…

If there is one thing I frequently miss, it’s a good Mexican torta. There’s no way a chain like this is going to be able to match up to an authentic place on the other side of the border, but for a mall restaurant, Bolillo does well. I had a torta milanesa with chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had steamed veggies for a side and those were yummy as well. I will definitely be back for more tortas!

Carne asada torta was recommended and was delicious. it could’ve used a little more meat though… friendly service

I have not eaten the food here, so i can not comment on the taste. I ordered food because it sounded great, but as I stood watching them prepare the food I became more and more sick to my stomach and asked for my money back. Kitchen staff did not wear gloves, went from food prep to wiping down surfaces with a visibly dirty rag, back to food prep. THEN I saw someone put her bare hand PALMDOWN on a plate of veggies to check the temp since they had been sitting there. NEVER saw anyone wash their hands. Just spend a few minutes watching them prepare the food before ordering. I have watched twice now and did not want to risk infection from insanely poor hygiene of the staff preparing and serving the food. I do hope whomever owns/manages the place will put a stop to this and teach proper food safety preparation to the staff.

Not bad for a lunch spot in the mall. I had half of a carne asada(one of the most popular ones) and fries for about $ 6. The torta was good and the fries were ok(a small handful). The portion size wasn’t that much but enough to fill me up for lunch(probably wouldn’t fill up most people though since I don’t eat much). I will probably try eating here again, but maybe opt for a full torta.

Once again, I find myself disagreeing with reviews on this one. I like this place for what it is. This is a great work lunch spot. The food is not over decadent, but just enough to hit the spot. Low risk on falling asleep at the desk later and super tasty, that is exactly what I’m looking for. I got their signature sandwich and it was delicious and full of tasty and fresh ingredients, and so was the bacon wrapped jalapeño popper! My gf got one of their salads and it was full of healthy colorful veges too. I guess if you are going here expecting a greasy taco shop torta, then you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a super tasty, healthy and different sandwich for lunch, then this is your place. I will be going back… a lot.

Big props to Westfield for remerchandising the food court with new, interesting and diverse options. Now called the Dining Terrace, the standard but upgraded textbook food court cuisines are all still there, but atypical options also abound, including Bolillo Tortas. Tortas are Mexican sandwiches, and the«Bolillo» is the distinctive hard white roll on which a Torta is typically served. I ordered the half-size Carne Asada torta, which was tasty, especially with the green salsa. In addition to carne asada on the bolillo, the sandwich also had avocado, tomato, mayo and red onion. I would have preferred more heat from the green salsa, but otherwise I really liked my torta. I wish I had ordered the full size though — the sandwich was smaller, lighter and more expensive than I had expected. For $ 1 more I added the corn on the cob, which was half an ear smothered in butter and cheese and impaled on a stick. It was really rich but I liked it a lot. I thought about getting the cheese stuffed jalapeño wrapped in bacon but that seemed over the top, it was almost San Diego County Fair worthy. I’m still really curious. Next time.

The menu photos looked delicious & substantial, but the actual tortas were disappointingly not so filling. The pork in the Cubana was mainly fat and there was one slice of lunch meat ham & several thin, small slices of the milanesa. Overall, thin sandwiches lacking in major flavor(could use a more flavorful sauce) with a meager side included(delicious, but tiny side salad). I’d eat there again, but wouldn’t get the Cubana. My husband enjoyed his Carne Asada which had plenty of meat & decent flavor.

This place was alright. The progeny had a cubano and it looked great. She said it was tasty but not over the top gotta go back tasty. I liked the fresh vegetables on the sandwich, but I am a mom and we like that stuff even as the progeny scorns it. I was in Paleo week so I ordered the fresh vegetable plate and the corn, both of which were very affordable. The vegies were great, The corn was.interesting. I didn’t mind the cheese but it had a slightly sour taste, I would order it plain if I ordered it again, It was also over steamed and a bit limp. The jalapeño was good, but I would have liked more bacon, just a personal preference. Hi Max.

The ahogada looks better in their photo than it tastes! I thought I’d be getting a sandwich sitting on a bit of sauce but boy, was I wrong. I ended up with a sub looking sandwich full of pork and drowning in tomato paste-y kinda sauce. Way too tomato paste in taste! Ugh. The only part of my plate I actually enjoyed was the corn cob and the bacon wrapped jalapeño. My hubby had the carne asada, which was much better than my ahogada.

This is a welcome addition to the newly remodeled UTC Food Court. Nice to have a unique option as opposed to your standard food court options. I’ve had the Carne Asada Torta, the Chorizo Torta, and the Torta Cubana. Of those, my favorite is the Torta Cubana. The bacon-wrapped jalapeño popper accompanied with the Tortas is interstingly good too! Wash down your meal with a mexican horchata and you’ll be satisfied :)

Tortas are awesome, and Bolillo strives to kick it up a notch. After trying a sample of their bean soup(which was thick), I ordered a huevo con chorizo torta(eggs with chorizo sausage). A few minutes later, it appeared, along with a side of steamed veggies Torta: so many layers of good stuff in here! This isn’t just like a taco shop torta — it is something more. it really hit the spot. bacon-wrapped jalanpeno(stuffed with cheese): a tasty side that sets this place apart. who doesn’t like bacon? steamed veggies(broccoli, carrots): a nice option as a side, but nothing exciting about them other than healthier than sides at other places, you can also get corn. Even though I want to try out some of the other new eateries of the UTC food court(which is now nicely renovated to be more upscale and less open hall, more varied table/seating options), I’m pretty eager to try more tortas here.

This place is not ready for primetime. And it’s expensive, especially when you factor in both quantity and quality. I was very disappointed. I love tortas and know what they are all about. Maybe the original location has it together, but this location most definitely does not. Want a gourmet torta from a group of owners who know what they are doing? Fill up the tank because you need to go here: First, the horchata machine was working but had no horchata. And this was at the noon hour. Not a good start. Second, my bolillo roll for my ahogada torta, although soaked in sauce, was very hard and was absolutely not fresh. That is a cardinal sin for any torta and is also totally inexcusable. Tortas must be served on super fresh rolls. The wife’s milanesa de pollo torta was a joke. The chicken was pounded insanely thin and, while the roll was fresh, there was far more roll than ingredients. And if it had any discernible flavor, it was completely lost on me. So now for the good: I’m giving them half a star because I have some respect for any place which takes a chance on products largely unfamilar to gringos, like tortas. The cheese-filled and bacon wrapped jalapeño was insanely good. It’s very spicy because they leave the seeds in the pepper so fair warning. I think they would widen the appreciation for this item if they cleaned out the seeds. But I still loved it. Finally, the Mexican corn(with the spicy, rich and creamery mayo dressing) was excellent. I could have eaten five of them and made a meal. The downtown location gets great reviews. The UTC version gets mediocre reviews. Is it the same product? Is it the same service? I don’t know. And I don’t care. Whatever this location is doing, they are doing it wrong. And I won’t be back.

UTC Food court redesign has brought new food places for us workers in the UTC area. Bolillo is one of the new ones. They do have a bigger place somewhere else but of course, like an appetizer, you can judge a place by its smaller venue. Bolillo had an offer in one of those social deals that lets you get $ 14 of food for a $ 7 purchase. Unilocalers are notoriously cheap or at least always in search of a bargain. My friends and I arrived early when the food court is barely crowded. This is always good because you can ask questions without someone behind you mumbling under their breath(don’t worry I do it too esp when we have been in a long line and you the person before you decides to play 100 questions). We are able to assess the menu without rushing. You have a choice of a half or full sandwich, it comes with a bacon covered jalapeño(the pepper is way too big) and a side. Drinks are separate. I didn’t see any combo with the drinks(they do serve beer and wine). They did have soup and sandwich combo plus some of the sides sold separately. I chose the milanesa chicken(half) with salad. My friends both chose carne asada(full) with salad. I bought a cup of separate to use up my coupon up. The carne asada was salty according to my friends, the salads were fine. The soup passable. My chicken was just the right amount for me and fine(not outstanding but not bad). Overall, pricing is a normal for the food court, half sandwiches could be around $ 5 and up with the side and jalapeño. But it does add up if you want a drink with your meal. Desserts were a bit high priced and would really drive up your meal cost to almost a restaurant meal. I might try them again someday but no rush.

Of the many food selections in the UTC food court, Bolillo Tortas offers something a little bit different. If you’re tired of a sub or deli sandwich, but are still craving a sandwich, then this just might be your place. After thinking about it for several seconds, I’ve determined that I’ve never had a torta before. The menu here has several options with all kinds of meat and vegetarian choices. I went with a pollo something or another, and it was pretty good. My favorite part was the bacon wrapped jalapeño on the side. For a food court, this place was not fast. There weren’t any other customers other than the 3 others I came with, and it took about 15 minutes to get our food. It’s great that it’s fresh made, but we weren’t expecting to wait that long.

I ordered the chicken Milanesa torta, the food does not taste bad in anyway. however, for what you’re paying $ 10, you don’t get what you pay for. I like chicken but didn’t know what chicken milanesa is so I googled it… and found this Lets just say its no where near that. The chicken is cut thin like a philly cheesesteak. and you can’t even taste it. HUGE disappointment but you should expect it because that is what the other reviews say. So… if they were to drop the price to $ 5 then it would be OK but nah… not for $ 10. Its like a veggie sandwich… a good one… The corn flavored cob is a good side dish.

Went here for the first time a few weeks ago. We ordered the Torta Cubana and the Signature Bolillo Torta. They both came with a choice of side dish. We had the salad and corn on the cob. Both sandwiches were very good. Our favorite was the Torta Cubana. It is like a Cuban sandwich with a little Mexican flair with avocado and some refried beans. The Bolillo Torta was very good as well, but it comes with pineapple — so it might be too sweet for some. Both sandwiches are a good size and packed with lots of meat and filling. The corn on the cob is not your typical corn on the cob. It was marinated in lime juice, and is covered with chile powder and probably cotija cheese. Each sandwich also comes with a bacon-wrapped cheese-filled jalapeño pepper. The salsa they gave was also very good. One tasted like a smoky chipotle chutney/salsa. The other one was a nice tomatillo(and maybe cactus) salsa. It also nice that the place offers traditional Mexican drinks such as Jamaica and Horchata. This place seems like it has elevated and transformed some Mexican street food. My new favorite place at the UTC Food Court… It also doesn’t hurt that the mall had a recent major upgrade — including the food court.
