This practice is a big disappointment. Dr. Michelson is my opthamologist and Robert is my optician. In 2009, my Rx was incorrect leading to the creation of incorrect lenses. The expensive high priced Zeiss lenses were incorrectly manufactured, so between Eye Care of La Jolla and Zeiss, my $ 700 lenses took many weeks to arrive correctly. Now, it’s 2011 and the same errors occurred again. Incorrect eye test, led to incorrect Rx, which led to incorrect lenses being made. Then, to add insult to injury, Zeiss flubs the manufacturing of the lens AGAIN. The lenses of course, have be redone AGAIN due to the incorrect prescription. This year, I began the process in early July and finally received my glasses this week(October). Lenses were $ 1000 for my regular glasses(just the lens, no frames). Lenses for my sunglasses were $ 599.(again I re-used my old frames). These high prices combined with this miserable delivery of service, makes we want to run in the opposite direction. NEVERAGAIN. By the way, I asked for an adjustment to make amends for my 8 trips and 3+ months of hassles. Dr. Michelson offered me $ 25 off my $ 1300 bill. Nice eh?

I cannot recommend this doctor to anyone. I terminated my relationship with Eye Care of La Jolla after being subjected to and charged repeatedly for inappropriate diagnostic procedures, and after Dr. David S. Michelson repeatedly recommended a laser retina weld procedure to pro-actively prevent a retinal tear. That procedure was not indicated under the standards of the American Ophthalmological Association according to Dr. William Freeman, a recognized authority on the retina at UCSD Medical School, to whom I went for a second opinion. Dr. David Michelson was over-reacting to some lattice degeneration, which is common in near-sighted people and not necessarily a precursor to retinal detachment. The procedure would have cost me a substantial amount of money, and would have subjected my one good eye(I have amblyopia) to needless risk. Please do not take this negative review as a criticism of Dr. Paul Michelson, who is David Michelson’s father and also an ophthalmologist at Eye Care of La Jolla. All of the issues I have had with that practice have been solely the fault of Dr. David S. Michelson.
