So, as we all know I am a woman with discerning taste but tight cash flow. Translation: I like nice things, but I’m basically broke. But, when Grandfather of Niko is paying I am eating at The Grill at The Lodge at Torrey Pines. Was it good? Oh yes, yes it was very, very good. I had the ham sandwich which is usually served on Pumpenickel Bread-I’m not a fan, so I asked for sourdough instead. My side was the tomato soup, served with fresh basil. The sandwich was huge, stuffed with ham and coleslaw(how did they know I love coleslaw?), served on toasted sourdough with sweet mustard. It was fabulous. Grandfather of Niko had the iceberg wedge with Blue Cheese dressing. It looked good, although I’m not a salad person. We sat outside and had an unobstructed view of the practice putting green. Since the PGA Tournament, Farmers Insurance Open was in town, we watched several pros practice their short game. It was a fun day, with an awesome sandwich for $ 14.95 that I didn’t pay for. Doesn’t get much better than that.

For several years The Grill at TP has been a regular stop for our group of locals after hiking Torrey Pines State Reserve. We enjoyed the easy parking, the quiet ambience, the complimentary chips and dip, the varied menu and the fair pricing. Unfortunately we have been terribly disappointed over our last two visits in December and January. Not sure, but I have the feeling there is new management with an emphasis on the bottom line. Our criticism in order of importance: 1. The prices have increased about 20% and to add to the insult, 2. The menu no longer features half-entrees. 3. I’m no restaurant critic, but the food just isn’t prepared as well as we have come to expect; 4. Drinks we ordered on our most recent visit were disappointingly light. A simple Campari-Soda was light on the Campari. Also, the bartender apparently didn’t know how to make a Negroni. While that may have been explicable a few years ago, it seems inexcusable now that the Negroni has made a comeback as a popular cocktail; 5. The complimentary chips were overcooked. I suspect they may no longer be house-made. 6. Some fight between the hotel and the golf course now prohibits parking in the convenient golf course lot. We are sorry to lose what we always considered a «find». Now looking forward to taking our trade to Mustangs and Burros at the Estancia hotel down the road.

I found the food so so. As a gluten sensitive person I did find options, but don’t go for the dessert. We asked if they could adjust the mousse and cookies by doubling the mousse and leaving off the cookies. They told us the cookies were the star and the mousse was tiny so no problem right? Nope, they wanted 50% more on the price, $ 8 up to $ 12 for 2 tiny mousse cups. No thank you.

Food was fabulous! Ambience was fabulous(sat outside on the patio)! Service was excellent. ONLY complaint(for a 5 star review) is dirty dishes not taken away — a pet peeve of mine, especially when there is latte and dessert to follow meal… and no water refill until requested at end of meal. Great all the way around!

A little pricey but a nice place to have breakfast/brunch especially before hitting some golf balls around. On my last visit, I had the ham, Gruyère and red pepper omelette but substituted chicken sausage for the ham($ 12). The omelette was good and came with roasted potatoes which could have been a little crispier and toast. Coffee was super expensive though($ 5) but they did leave a stainless steel carafe of it for me.

It isn’t every day that I eat $ 16 hamburgers. But it isn’t every day I’m on vacation in San Diego celebrating my birthday, either. I had heard my sister rave about this burger and just had to have one. And I can honestly say I was not disappointed. It was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. I washed it down with a nice glass of Syrah. It was the perfect birthday meal.
The lodge is an elegant place and the service matched the establishment. Our server, Paige, was an absolute sweetheart. It’s so nice to get treated like royalty. Nice restaurants cost more but sometimes it’s worth it just to get pampered. And to top it off, they brought me out a plate with Happy Birthday written in chocolate, along with some fresh pastries. What a great night.

Really nothing special… server was sweet but the service was weak… food was very average with tip 57 bucks for a bowl of soup grill cheese coffee oj and a fritta… and what’s with the design of the golf shop building… did the resort run out of money? And what view? of a putting green watching people trying to hit little balls into a hole?

Salmon was average at best for the cost. You over paying just because of the name and reputation.

Service was great but food just so so. We ordered glazed salmon and cioppino off the dinner menu. Did not meet expectations. If you decide to come here– ordered something basic like the burger.

You can’t beat lunch outside on the deck over looking hole #1. Found the service to be rather slow and the food to be even slower. The meal was ok. Definitely overpriced but to be expected. Good lunch date spot with the hubby.

One of the best burgers that I have ever had. If the grill is busy, you can order the burger at the restaurant upstairs! The burger was juicy and well seasoned, also a large portion. Highly recommend. Recommend making a reservation especially if you want to sit outside!

Super delicious meal on our recent vaca in San Diego. Drove up to La Jolla one day and ended up at Torrey Pines. Lots of golfers enjoying the amazing Southern California weather! We were all hungry so decided to try out the on site grill. We were slightly intimidated as we were all pretty casually dressed, but quickly realized we were just with a bunch of golfers so our shorts and tees were on fleek with the rest of the crowd there. Lol! Wait staff was super professional and courteous, meals were a bit slow to come out, but nothing to complain about. Everything was fresh and delish!

My family and I have been eating breakfast at the Lodge during every Golf Tourney for the last +15 years and every morning during the US Open = «What a week that was»!! I can say we have never had a bad meal and their Bloody Mary’s are Awesome! Honestly we have tried every breakfast meal. Homemade corned beef hash is great! This is our family tradition! Please don’t let others know about this place during the tourney, never waited more then 5 – 10 to be seated and hate for this to change! I hear their Burgers are Awesome! Maybe lunch next Tourney!!! FYI, never buy a beer on the course when you can get a cold IPA from the tap for the same price and watch the Pros warm up on the practice green while enjoying your beer! The Lodge and Bar are the Hidden Gems of the Tourney!

Came here to try out the Drugstore Burger, as a continuation of my burger adventure. It is on the more expensive end, $ 16, but it was totally worth it. I really loved it! The patty was rich with flavor and it was huge! The bacon was a good. The burger came with fries, also good and crispy. The service and atmosphere was wonderful. All employees go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied with your food and time there. The view is beautiful. I definitely recommend trying The Grill if you’re in the area, perhaps after a nice day of golfing or hiking to fuel back up!

For what this is, you can’t ask for much better. Essentially the clubhouse grill for one of the most famous courses in America, the Grill @ the Lodge @ Torey Pines overlooks the 1st tee. The patio is large and offers amazing views of the course. The food and service are both great and lend itself to an enjoyable visit. While there, I tried the tomato soup /grilled cheese(excellent), the Argentina sandwich and the drugstore style hamburger. Everything we tried was good and the prices were very reasonable. If visiting Torrey Pines or hiking the trails, this place is a must.

Great drinks. Thursday night jazz. Quiet and beautiful. Staff is very polite and goes out of their way to make you happy. Bartender did not want to leave a tab open. Odd. Enjoyed the evening. Great menu but pricy. We will be coming back again.

We visited the Grill for breakfast during a quick visit to Torrey Pines as my husband is an avid golfer and wanted to check out the property. We asked to be seated outside to enjoy the views and were given a really nice table that overlooked the 1st tee. The views were spectacular and it was fun to watch the passersby as they were getting ready to tee off. The menu was very simple and somewhat small for breakfast. They were able to accommodate my request for something different that was not on the menu and I thought that was very nice. The food was good. It is hard for me to speak to what I had as it was a simple bagel with smoked salmon but there was lots of it and they didn’t charge me an arm and a leg. My husband had an omelet and really enjoyed it. Our server was fairly curt with not much personality but he was fine. I’d really like to come back again for lunch as I have heard that the burger is very good. I would come back here again, especially to enjoy the views as they are just beautiful.
