This used to have great food, despite awful service, but this is my last visit after the last 4 consistently disastrous visits. As far as service is concerned– I’ve waited over 20 minutes to order. That time I left and ate next door. Others, the food was disappointing once it arrived. Expect a fairly long wait for any sushi order(despite the name being a sushi restaurant). Walk in orders will take priority over anyone eating in. So if a large order comes in while you’re waiting, expect that they will leave with their stack if styrofoam boxes before you get your food. Then the bento boxes come next. Sushi is always the last item. They do not fill orders in the order taken. Loud party of 8? They get their food first. Walk in order for 6? They get their food first. Last couple in the door orders a bento box? They get their food first. Small order of sushi? You get your food whenever there is downtime between the other orders. Today I waited 30 minutes. This used to be a charming hole in the wall with great food. Now it’s just a hole in the wall with bad ingredients with drowned with sauces

Family owned small joint, but delicious food. Been at that location for over 20 years.

I haven’t been to Yummy Maki Yummy Box in years, but after my recent visit, it still is the same small sushi joint with great service and an awesome buy 3 get one 1 free roll deal. I used to really like their bento boxes, but my husband and I were in the mood for sushi, so we decided to take advantage of their roll special. We had a lobster beach roll, a salmon roll of some sort, pink roll, and another roll with spicy tuna in it with yellowtail on top. To start off, they gave us some miso soup(comes with the rolls, no extra charge) and then we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary appetizer that was fried and had cream cheese in it. It was pretty good! The fresh rolls we ordered were all pretty good. We were a little disappointed in the lobster beach roll though, so probably wouldn’t get that next time. Service was good especially since it seemed like there was only one person working and we were sitting outside(they have one table for four out their door). It’s a really small sushi place though with maybe 10 small tables inside. If you go, I’d recommend going earlier or later in the day. The parking lot gets packed during lunchtime and it isn’t very big. I’d definitely recommend Yummy Maki Yummy Box for sushi or their bento boxes. It won’t be the best sushi in SD, but it’s good and for a very good price.

My wife & I dined here for the first time & enjoyed our dinner. Modest atmosphere, but great food, generous portions, attentive & helpful service, fair prices. We will definitely return

Absolutely love this place for it’s simple yet delicious menu, Had regular California roll, avocado roll and veggie roll(not really that great). I loved how my California roll tasted and it very inexpensive. This is my new favorite spot for quick and inexpensive bite

Came here on a Friday night with a party of 4. This was my first time in San Diego and there’s a lot of Asian restaurants to chose from. We got a table right as we walked in. Our server was fantastic and answered all of our questions. We actually ordered 3 rolls buy told us we got another on the house. Some places would not be as courteous so they can benefit from the forgetfulness of customers. We also got a hot sake on the house. All of the food was great and was very filling. I got the chicken tempura and the bulgogi box dinner. Didn’t even finish either dish since we were all sharing. The bulgogi was amazing though. Would definitely come to this place again when I’m in the San Diego area.

Tuna MUSH!!! Never have I had a roll that was supposed to be topped with tuna, and rather than a slice of tuna, it was tuna mush! It was disgusting!

My husband and I stumbled across the place after they closed the sushi joint next to the AMC movie theater and we were pleasantly surprised! Everything we’ve tried has been really good and fresh, great prices, and the people who work there are so nice. They felt bad after asking us to move tables because it was getting a little crowded, which we didn’t even mind doing as we had just sat down, so they comped our saki and gave us an extra little roll to apologize. They really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. It is a small place but we’ve never had a problem getting seated right away and getting our food super quick. I love that it’s no-frills and not overpriced like a lot of other sushi places.

Great sushi, and they always give us free Miso soup. Occasionally we also get a free order of nigiri or appetizer. Service is sometimes slow because they only have two waiters working at a time usually, but for the cheap, delicious sushi it is worth the wait. We eat here once a week and probably will continue to do so forever. This is the best sushi in La Jolla by far. Pro tip: Get the albacore nigiri. I have had albacore at many, many places and theirs is the best.

I came to get a to-go order the other night here. I ordered a drink so I could have it while waiting for my food to get ready. They completely forgot to give it to me, still charged me for it, and took forever to get my bill straightened out and processed. They kept helping other people instead of me, who would of been a quick customer. I order a noodle dish, and it was terrible! Greasy, way too much cabbage instead of actual ingredients, and it was $ 12! I’ll never come back. There’s way better options out there.

Was visiting from Toronto, and looking for some authentic food for dinner … No more burgers please! Found this place next our hotel. Not fancy, but doesn’t need to be. Fantastic fresh sashimi and udon. Very friendly and fast service. Seems like a favourite place of locals too. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for some authentic Japanese cuisine.

Wanted to stop for sushi while visiting UCSD for a conference. Service was a tad slow but friendly. I typically stick with nigiri when I am home in San Francisco but since I was taking a bit if a vacation I took a risk and ordered the Holiday Roll. It was extremely rich so I was unable to finish it but the flavor was pretty good so I would order it to share. There was a very good dish sent to my table, on the house, which was some sort of deep fried roll with crab and cream cheese served over a salad. I actually prefered that dish over the roll I ordered. Miso soup is included with your order but there is no seaweed in it? Hot tea is $ 1. Overally I feel pretty neutral about this sushi place. My table ended up taking quite a bit back to our hotel because the portions were just so large.

This restaurant has never ceased to amaze me. The food is consistently superb, and the service even better. I’ve been with family and friends, who share similar sentiments. This last time, I ordered the 3×3 sashimi. As some one who has travelled extensively in the pacific rim, I’ve had more sashimi from places that catch t fresh daily than I care to admit. It also means that most sashimi in the states has disappointed me, failing to be the same thick cut, fresh fish I’m used to. The sashimi here was fairly thick cut, and very fresh. Certainly a close tie to the fish from my travels. Frequently I have been comped an appetizer on the house, which has always made the experience so much better. I’ve tried a few rolls or other things that I wouldn’t have ordered otherwise this way. The tempura boxes are good too, you really can’t go wrong here. My only complaint is its a bit small, about 30 seats, but thats never really caused me much of a problem.

Solid food, great deal on sushi(buy 3 get 1 free). I got the Yummy Maki spicy Udon dish and it was huge! I was a little disappointed because there were only 3 shrimps in my dish, but the noodles were so perfectly chewy and I had a lot of food leftover.

Have been coming to this place for many years and have always had good food and good service. It is a small place with about 30 seats inside and a few tables outside, so we tend to go during the 1:00 pm shift if we’re going there for lunch. Parking can be a challenge but not so at the later hour. Their tempura box is usually more than I can finish but I love the variety of the items that are included. The Vegetable Tempura has 2 tempura shrimp and sliced zucchini, onion, long bean and squash. It comes with a gyoza and edamame and a side salad with Miso dressing. They always have a super sweet slice of orange to finish off the dish.
