So I just moved to the area of Rolando. This place is right down the street from me. I have been to Mr. G’s and tried to get along with the regulars. Flat out… A majority of them consist of dead beat, low class, un-cultured, imbeciles. I would not recommend that anyone take the time out of their life to endure the unwelcoming nature of this place. Unless… You are some degenerate biker a-hole. The young female bartender was nice though.

Looking for a spot to get faded, found this spot while smashing threw La Mesa with friends. Got black out drunk on good cheap booz had a fun argument and left the bar feeling great. Good spot to have a bartender pour away your problems for the day. You have to hit up thirsty two dollar at two o’clock a day drunk is the best drunk.

I used to frequent this bar often however the drama of the regulars became annoying and uncomfortable. The bartenders are great good drinks and very well priced. I will go back but not nearly as often as I used to.

I was invited by a friend to come out for a drink. She brought me here & I must say the environment was great, the service was amazing, the bartenders were very knowledgable and very friendly and I felt very welcomed. It’s a great place to have a great night with friends. Thank you all for a great time and for the amazing service!

Hole in the wall bar. Where all the locals hang out. Cheap drinks. Karaōke night on Fridays(maybe Saturdays?)… I’m unsure. They let you bring food from the taco shop across the street :)

Ok, I went there because a friend I used to work with posts about karaōke here every week and I figured I could check it out. I got really hammered one night and needed somewhere to go, I had the cajones to do karaōke since my inhibitions were down. So I remembered the post and decided to hit this place up. I didn’t drink anymore while I was there. i thought the song selection was pretty big. It’s a huge binder. I went for some 80’s and switched it up with some Bieber(cuz I can!). Anyway, everyone was welcoming. Met some wild drunk lady and the dudes playing pool cheered me on. Maybe it was a slow night but there weren’t very many people when I went. Would I go back? Maybe. Do I recommend it? I don’t know, I’m usually a homebody and this place didn’t take me too far out of my comfort zone so I don’t know how others would view it. Give it a try and see what’s up.

I’ve been in here a few times, only on the weekends though, so I cant speak for the rest of the week. It’s a chill dive bar that gets relatively busy on the weekend. If it was closer to my place I’d be a regular for sure. The bartenders were great, a little bit smart assed, but in good fun. Cant remember how many beers they have on tap, but for $ 7.50 you can get a HUGE mug of beer. Not a bad place to kick it on a Friday or Saturday. It’s a decent place to bring a group of friends, as it usually isnt too packed. Just dont sit on the couches… Something about those couches… ugh.

Four stars from my fiancé, but I give it five. Biggest drawback is no food. But great drinks, the Roscoe is a massive beer that’s $ 7.50. Bartenders are super nice. Pool table in middle is awesome and great juke box has all current songs and lottery tickets machine is lots of fun for scratches. Overall good atmosphere, great drinks that are cheap! Will return very soon!

This is a dive bar. Repeat, this is a dive bar. Cheap(popeye strong) drinks, no frills bartenders, and good people. You’ll usually find me here Saturdays watching hilarious karaōke for my night cap on my way home from a non-divey bar.

DON’T WALKINWITHEXPECTATIONS, IT’S A DIVEBAR. It is divey but the bartenders are all nice enough. If you happen to not know what your gonna drink, ya you may get the eye roll, but COMEON. I’d give you the friggin eye roll too! The drinks are cheap, the pour is strong, the beers are cold, the jukebox is good. PERIOD. The clientele can look a bit suspicious but once you get talking to them they’re all pretty nice. That’s happened just about everytime I’ve gone in there. LOVEMISSMARIA!

So when I first walked in I thought, Hey … weren’t they supposed to have Karaōke tonight?!(This being a Saturday.) I didn’t see anyone singing, then about 15min later people began to sing. My friend and I got our beers, and went to sit down. The table we were at was completely soaked, so we wiped it down and moved the zillion drinks to the bar.(I thought that was the bars job?!) I finished my drink and went to get another one from the bartender, the guy with the crazy piercings. He asks what I want, and I say that im not sure yet. He says well I will go ask someone else then. So a couple min later he came back and asked if I had decided, I asked why kind of bottled beer he had, so instead of kindly telling me. He rolls his eyes and goes to the beer bin and pulls out every type of beer. Puts them all in front of me and then says, and now that I did this I bet you still don’t know what you want. I told him which beer and he asked for 1.25. I think that price was the only thing good about that experience. I tipped him a buck when I really didnt think he deserved anything. So I go to put a song in, first the selection is awful. Then when I finally find some songs I can sing, turns out his karaōke program is messed up and not all of the songs work. Out of the 10 songs I like to sing, he only had 2, out of the 2, none worked. Really?! Anyhow needless to say … I don’t recommend this bar at all and I won’t be going back ever.

This is your standard dive bar… a few tables to sit at, and a comfy, well-worn couch in the back. Pool table inconveniently located in the middle of the room(but where else could they put it, really?), and TVs everywhere. There’s a scratcher machine, and some video game where you can drunkenly blast at safari animals. There’s also a jukebox, which, while on the expensive side(typically $ 1 a song), has an amazingly wide music selection. Bartenders are friendly, drinks are(usually) strong. Patrons are pretty chill for the most part… generally younger, but not college kids methinks. All in all, a laid-back, cheap($ 5 AMFs) place to get your fade on.

This place deserves a longer review but I don’t have the time. Pros: Tall Guinness with a perfect Clover. Interesting Horseshoe bar Reasonable drinks Pool Table Kareoke Not a college bar Cons: Tap out douche bags wrestling each other in the bar. Seriously in the bar, WTF? Kareoke Bring a group and this bar will be a lot of fun. Not very likely that you would wander in and mix in with a fun group though. It’s very random, tap out tools in one corner, ugly girls trying to get laid in another, old guys checking out ugly girls at the bar, random norms here and there.

I was sposed to meet up with some people on Saturday night, and found out they were planning on heading to Mr. G’s. Now, I’m not gonna lie, I was not expecting an enjoyable experience. But, to my surprise, it wasn’t quite the drag I was so sure it was going to be. I walked right in(no bouncer?), met up with the group, then made my way to the bar. I got a pint of Killian’s(beer of the month = $ 2.50), and then watched as people sang away on some karaōke. I’m all for going up, pretending you’re somebody famous, and belting out some of your favorite tunes(albeit belligerent and out of tune). In fact, I’ve been known to take part in this act, while inebriated, myself. But if you do end up singing, please pick a good song. Isn’t it bad enough to like Evanescence in the first place, do you really want people to know that you know their songs word for word? A few cool things about the bar: there’s a pool table, there’s a couch towards the back of the bar, and there’s a Lotto scratcher vending machine in the corner. You can’t win alcoholic drinks from a scratcher or redeem them at the bar(yet), but there is a liquor store next door for you to conveniently cash them out for beer money. Now the not-so-cool: the pool table is right in the middle of the bar. Normally that wouldn’t be a problem, but since this bar isn’t that big, you gotta watch out for the pool cue. I was only there a short while, long enough to have a couple drinks really, and I wouldn’t rank it as one of my fav places, but I wouldn’t be totally against coming back some time. P.S. I have this theory about bars: a really good bar should either offer some good bar eats, or be close enough to a place that does. In Mr. G’s case, the Jack in the Box about a half block away and the lame taco shop across the street = no bueno. Luckily, I only live about a half mile away. So, worst case scenario, I can just go home and munch on some Hot Pockets. Or, there’s also the always packed In-N-Out not too far away.

Yup! I’m still a fan. I was just at Mr. G’s and it was a freakin good time. It just happened to be karaōke night and it was good stuff. Apparently it was the place to be tonight because all kinds of folk were there. Good, inexpensive drinks, cool peeps, and a Lotto scratcher machine, what more could you ask for?

this place rules. There’s a little bit of everything and they all get blind drunk. mix it up with karaōke on saturday and you have a recipe for laughter. The regulars there are sweet hearts and the crowd is tame but hilarious. Sometimes it gets loud but it’s all in good fun. in fact… I’m going there now!

The good thing about this place is you can get plastered and then slide out the back door, taking hidden side streets home and avoiding the pesky DUI patrol that treats university ave like some demented training ground for young dumb coppers. Oh yeah, and being able to drink PBR while listening to Journey and playing pool with fugly cougars is amazing!
