In a word, «meh». Pros: walking distance from my house, good portion sizes. Cons: under seasoned Adobada, fairly expensive for the quality. My husband ordered a Bandito burrito that he enjoyed. I got the TJ tacos which were pretty disappointing. The adobada tasted like plain, under seasoned carnitas and the tortillas seemed a bit stale and greasy. I’d eat here again if I was drunk and needed somewhere I could walk to, but not planning a trip back any time soon.

Horrible service! On June 18, 2016, I stopped by to purchase 2 carne asada burritos. When I got home, the burritos were ice cold. I called and spoke with Angelica who apologized and said to please come back and she’d replace the order. I threw them away and drove back. When I got to the window, she asked me for the burritos. She never said I needed to bring them back. She basically called me a liar and did not replace them. I will be in contact with Ana Maria, the owner, as Angelica was rude and argumentative. Do not buy food from them… there are better Mexican Food places!

Great thing about this place is that the drive they is always open and the service is always friendly. My most recent visit included chicken and beef tacos. They weren’t great but were pretty good just sooo salty. Even the green salsa was super salty. Sun Tacos wouldn’t be my first pick, but it’s an option. They have a very convenient drive thru that’s super to get in and out of fast. They also have a walk up window and some outdoor tables if you decide to eat there. Prices are reasonable for what you get. I had 3 tacos and a side of rice and it was about $ 13.

Their food is always on point. My favorite is always the rolled tacos. Always crispy and the meat to tortilla ratio is perfect.

Two words: Bacon Quesadilla. You will thank me. – This is my favorite taco shop for the following items: — Bacon quesadilla(add potatoes and sour cream for extra delight) — Potato burrito with rice and sour cream — Breakfast burrito Basically they rock breakfast and I challenge you to find better potatoes at other taco shops. They cut their in small thin coins and cook them to just the right amount of crispy.

The drive thru was on and poppin’ so my husband went to the window and ordered. I think it took way longer than sitting in line at the drive thru :( I ordered a combo with a beef taco(no lettuce) and cheese enchilada(no onions). The entire box was filled with lettuce when I opened it. I was SO pissed! The cheese in the enchilada was luke warm, not like it cooled off but it had never even been heated long enough to melt. The beans were super dry and crusty. Everyone else’s food seemed to be okay. It was just a bean burrito with extra cheese, potato rolled tacos, a quesadilla, and carne asada burrito(no onions). My husband was impressed that the guy working there recognized one of the burritos was incorrect, grabbed it up and made a fresh one, rather than letting it slip by. Now, if he’d only seen the no lettuce must mean you’d like your entire meal covered in it fiasco!

Basically, we keep coming here because the food is good. As long as they don’t spit in my food I’ll keep coming back especially since it’s close to my house. But the customer service sucks balls. If that’s something that’s important to you then don’t come here.

Gross. Drowned the burrito in enchilada sauce. Carne asada and beans had no flavor. Tasted like leftovers.

Its possible in the 20 years I’ve been in San Diego our family has put down over 1,000 burritos from these guys. Faves: Mazatlan, Bandido, Pollo Asado, and Vegetarian. Four stars because quality and consistency took a dip about a year ago, but recently they’ve been back on their game.

I didn’t want to rate this too low, because their food is really good, but they’ve messed up my order a few times now. I always order the California chips with guac substituted for sour cream, and go through the drive thru. I live in El Cajon, so it takes me ~15mins to get home to open the bag and discover that once again they didn’t give me what I ordered. Today when I got home, the chips w/cheese and guac were smothered in carne asada which I had to scrape all of it off the top and throw it away(I don’t really eat much meat). I ended up eating only ~1/3 of the order. Just be sure to check your bag before you leave the drive thru. I know I will from now on.

I’ve had good food here before… well let’s be honest I was slightly inebriated and anything short of dirt would have tasted good. Having the drive thru open 24 hours the biggest pro this place has, but I digress. The burrito I had yesterday was the most tasteless burrito I have ordered in my adult life. It was a Carne asada burrito, and it will haunt me forever. The meat was tasteless, the guac was tasteless and close to turning and the Pico tasted off. I didn’t even get past halfway. I probably won’t be going back… that is unless I stumble out of a local bar on a weekend night and convince the driver to get food. We then realize that this is the only mexican place open within a mile radius. Had to give two stars because in the past I did have good meals there.

I love coming here! It’s always fast and friendly service. Granted I tend to get pretty much the same things every time, at Sun Tacos it’s always consistent and yummy! Plus the drive through is so convenient.

Meh I ordered a quesadilla and it came with a pound of mole sauce(never heard of mole on it). My gf got the rolled tacos and those were meh as well. There’s always a line so mayb It’s just my taste preference but I would rather go to Taco Bell.

Solid option in the La Mesa Hood. Huge menu, good prices and tasty food. I didn’t give 5 stars because they’re a bit slower, but that could be due to the later hours I stopped in. I have been here before and don’t recall anything negative from either time.

Their Carne Asada Chips are served as they should be with cheese, guacamole and Carne Asada. Nothing extra to get in the way, unless you order it that way. They weren’t spectacular, but decent. The pieces of Carne Asada were a little bigger than I would have liked. This was my first encounter with the CAC’s here, so that could just be the way that particular cook does it. The service was friendly enough and they do have a drive-thru. I must say the canopy over the drive through was a nice touch. We chose to eat in, which is to say we sat a table outside. There is no indoor dining area. I can’t recall another taco shop in the immediate area, but it might be worth a look around. All in all, a middle-of-the-road experience.

They do not use Mexican cheese, their carne asada is not good at all, and their mulas do not have everything a mula is supposed to have, in that case I should have ordered a quesadilla. My mula consisted of just yellow and white cheese and the no bueno asada

Since living in the local La Mesa area, I have visited Sun Tacos on several occasions with never really being impressed with the food here, but I never decided to ever leave a review for this place. This grab and go place sits off the side of the road off Jackson and has a simple little parking lot connected to it. They also have a drive through on the side with a short queue for just a couple cars. Their menu( ) at Sun Tacos isn’t large and doesn’t really sport much variety as they carry just a simple amount of burritos, tacos, tortas and other common taco shop items. There’s not much to say about the outside of Sun Tacos as there is no inside dining area and only an outside seating area that is covered by a new awning they just recently remodeled. You order your food from a little window at the front of the place, the guy inside was quite friendly and gave me a handful of hot sauce with my meal, both red and green. I got my food to go and the wait wasn’t too long at all. Their burritos here( ) are very bulky and are pretty damn stuffed to the max. Their San Diego burrito( ) is a simple breakfast burrito containing carne asada, eggs, and cheese. I asked them to add some beans and potato to it because no breakfast burrito is ever complete without them. What I noticed first about their burritos was the tortilla shells they use are quite different tasting and have a weird texture to them. The carne asada inside was on the bland side of things and didn’t taste like it was cooked to order, more like they simply heated it up on the grill and threw it into the burrito. The eggs, beans, and potatoes inside tasted pretty good and they didn’t bog the burrito down with potato like a lot places have issues with it, there was definitely plenty of meat in this sucker. Even though the burrito was quite massive, I’m not really one for having larger portions rather than just better tasting food, the burrito wasn’t one of the better ones I’ve had. Their five rolled tacos here( ) came loaded up with guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream. As you can see from the picture they are not afraid to add a grip load of toppings to your tacos. So if you are one of those people who are afraid of their tacos even getting a little bit soggy, I suggest asking them to go easy on the toppings. Me? Bring the toppings on, load those things up. To despite all the stuff they added, the tacos remained pretty damn crispy and tasted delicious to me. While not a big fan of sour cream, that is the only thing I would have changed with my rolled tacos. Pretty decent rolled tacos here, just wish they added a bit more guacamole than sour cream(I want the good stuff). The red hot sauce at Sun Tacos is actually rather decent with good flavors and a medium spiciness to it. The green sauce however wasn’t very good and had an overly salty taste to it, maybe I got some bad ones. I’m pretty picky on sauces though, they definitely contribute a lot of flavor to most Mexican places. Sun Tacos seemed like a pretty average place, it wasn’t exactly terrible food but not the best either. They definitely need to get some better ingredients for their burritos here.

Today I had a wet mixed(bean and beef) burrito and there was barely an ounce of beans at each end of the burrito, but when I brought it up to the cashier he had the cook retrieve me a cup of beans as the cook gave me a baleful stare. Also, the ingredients in the burrito were barely warm and what was odd was the shredded beef was very finely minced beef for some reason. Another odd thing that I’ve never seen before in a mexican restaurant was that the cook and cashier appeared be Iraqi but when I asked the cashier, he pulled his hat off and said no, I’m Mexican, but as the cook glared at me, I realized I’d been had, LoL

I absolutely love the fish tacos here! Also love the shrimp burritos! It’s a busy drive thru but they do have a window where you walk up and order from outside with covered patio seating. Yum!
