Java co … what happened to you?

Java co has been around for a while and has changed ownership many times, it seems like every time i come back the place has changed. It’s a nice place to study, there are a good amount of seating and the put enough outlets around you which is great. They provide free Internet and the general atmosphere is good enough to study in. The main reason i give it only 3 stars is because their drinks are just average. Not bad but since they consider themselves a coffee house, i would expect their drinks to be somewhat better. It closes at 11pm, i am not sure about the weekends. Oh and there is the man who comes in weekly and just plays his guitar and signs softly, it’s nice.

Favorite drink: Carribean Iced Tea. Besides that, their beverages are okay. It’s a cozy place to play games(they have games there), study(WIFI!!!), or lounge around(outside seating available). I sometimes stop by this place before or after watching a movie at the dollar theater next door. I wouldn’t go out of my way to only get a drink though.

I used to frequent Java Co. back in college, and they were a LOT more lenient and cool with their customers then. The manager at that time was friendly and although the food and drinks were not really the best or decently-priced, I still went for the service and the great, consistent WiFi. However, Java Co. changed management within the past year, and the café got worse. The drinks are a bit overpriced, they’re really stingy about customers bringing in outside food and drinks(I wasn’t even allowed in because I had a Starbucks cup in my hand!), they have a crazy loitering problem that they don’t do ANYTHING about, and the one tiny bathroom they have is dirty every time I go in. The several drinks I tried there were okay, and that kind of disappointed me because independent cafes usually have GREAT and special drinks that I would pay an extra buck or two for. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a happenin’ place for studying and meeting with friends, but with all the revamping the café has been through… I feel like it hasn’t gotten better.

Not a bad place to chill and meet up with a friend. You’ll usually some people chatting or studying, like a typical coffeeshop. I like to frequent this place when I’m in this area. It’s a very comfortable place. I think Biola students come here often. I’m not from Biola though. But that’s not important.

Around this shopping center, there’s the movie theater, the mexican place, some karate place, Gamestop, sushi place, Carl’s Jr, Panera, and Starbucks. Starbucks is too crowded and the coffee taste burnt. This is a great alternative to Starbucks. Sure, you don’t get the free coffee at Election Day or get to use up the gift card your buddy gave you for Christmas. You do, however, not have to mooch off the Panera Bread’s wifi(which can be slow with Panera Bread customers using it as well) because Java Co. has their own(code marked on the receipt) . The Korean-owned Java Co has a nice homey atmosphere and certainly more relaxed. The cushy chairs on the wall are helpful and there’s no lack of sockets for your laptop(unlike Panera). It is also warmer than Starbucks(that place is freezing!). I usually order the green tea latte, and occasionally coffee. People also come in for slushies and boba. I like the mom-and-pop shop atmosphere as opposed to the corporate, cold Starbucks. Not a bad place to hang out after a cheap… I mean, economy-friendly, movie date.

This place used to be nice to get drinks made with fresh ingredients before the ownership changed. They had great milk teas and green tea smoothies(and I love green tea smoothies, when they’re made with non-american-fake-matcha junk). After ownership changed, practically all the drinks were switched to powders that are mixed in the blender(hint: these don’t taste very good) — I’ve seen the exact same brand of powder used at other korean-owned locations, so take what you will from that. As the store is now, I’d give it 3 stars for the drinks. HOWEVER, what is absolutely horrid about this location is that every annoying little snot from the highschools and middle schools around here love to hang out and generally cause trouble for both the store and other customers who are trying to buy drinks. These punks have nothing better to do than make a ruckus and be a pain to everyone besides themselves. Why would anyone want to bother stopping by to get a drink when they have to deal with a gaggle of hooligans who think they’re bad-ass hanging around the store? I’ve even seen employees of Java Co come out to plead with the punks to stop their ruckus(not to mention that the punks usually don’t even patronize the store). The strip mall where Java Co is located attracts the worst snot-nosed punks in La Mirada like moths to a flame — kids, please go home and leave the adults alone, you’re not wanted in society till you’ve matured. Only thing I have left to say is that Java Co needs to start giving a call to the plentiful police always seen hanging around in that strip mall. The crowd that gathers in front of Java Co is detrimental to even the stores around it.

This place is your standard coffee shop located in the epicenter of La Mirada which is «The Center». I say this now because you see everyone at the center. It’s literally the only place to go in LM. I used to be really against coming here or to the entire center but I ended up making my rounds to Java Co. when I found out my friend worked her. She would constantly hook it up with free drinks and in turn I tried a few of her creations. Mostly different juices she made out of water and the boba slush concentrate. One drink caught my eye in particular though. The Cookie N’ Cream Blended Ice Coffee my friend made it awesome and when i came back and ordered it again it lost its flaire. All and all I’ve never really spent money here aside from Jones Sodas. If your craving coffee and a chill atmosphere you should come to Java Co. But really you can find the same atmosphere and drink selection at any Starbucks. So this is my reasoning for giving this place a 3 because its pretty standard.

Great place to grab a quick cup of coffee or a boba drink. Yup, that’s right. Java Co. serves boba drinks. I ordered a taro slush today and was in taro heaven. I love the taste of that drink and wasn’t looking for a typical coffee drink today. I knew Java Co. had italian sodas too, so I was sure I’d come away with something refreshing and making my thirsty mouth happy. The guy who made my drink was nice too. When I first ordered my drink, he wanted to know if I’d like the small or large. I wasn’t sure, because the price written on the sign was $ 3.50. So I asked him what size was that price. Turns out it’s the large. The small drink was $ 2.95. I told him that I didn’t want the boba in my drink(I know can you believe it, but I wasn’t feeling the boba today). So then he asked me if I wanted my drink on ice or blended. I thought that was great. I’m so glad I found a new coffee place to come. Work is closeby too, so that’s a major plus. Update(9⁄6): I came by today for some coffee before work. Iced coffee wasn’t on the menu, but I asked if it was possible to get one. The same guy from before was there and said it was okay; that I could choose from any of the hot flavored coffees. Plus, they have a ton of Torani syrups(way more than Starbucks). Very cool. I like this place.

I like this place. It’s pretty busy and they’re always open pretty late. The owner knows me and knows my drink… always a good thing. Their green tea boba is pretty good and so is their ice blended mocha with a double shot(on those days I can’t seem to wake myself up). I like it better than the chain coffee houses… all their stuff is made to order and not a huge generic batch. They have live entertainment every once in a while on the weekends… actually it might be a weekly thing but I’m not too sure.
