Edvanced Learning Academy

I am a parent with a senior athlete at Los Al high school. It was late February, just 2 weeks before the next SAT, kind of late in the game, but I was desperately looking for someone to help my daughter increase her SAT score, she only took the test once last year and needed to increase her score. I came across Edvanced Learning and read all the amazing Unilocal reviews about Tommy and thought it was probably too good to be true as I took my son 5 years ago to many very prestige SAT PREP courses that were very pricey and who «claimed» to be good yet never proved themselves worth a penny!
When I first called Tommy, he didn’t answer. I said to myself. I knew it, too good to be true, but I was desperate so I left a message. Within 10 mins or less Tommy returned my phone call. I explained my daughters situation, he admitted he was very busy but he kindly asked to meet us right away with the small window he had open. After meeting Tommy he accepted the challenge of helping my daughter, in a private one on one setting due to the short time she had… Only having met with my daughter 4 times (1 hour each time) to prep for the SAT that was in 2 weeks, he gave her such amazing info. She was able to raise her score by 100 points! When I asked my daughter what she thought of Tommy her first response was, «He is ok. Just your normal typical smart guy.» LOL but after meeting with him just the 4 times then says she loves his teaching method, and he relates everything to her sport, which helps her understand concepts a lot better! and wishes I would have found him sooner!!! 2 weeks ago she asked me if I can call and ask Tommy to help tutor her in all subjects in order to help raise her GPA as she enjoys working with him. I said he may be busy but he may have other tutors to help and she said… NOOO I like Tommy, I’m used to him :) With that said, Tommy gladly accepted again :) my daughter now sends personal texts to Tommy asking if her homework is correct LOL and never hesitates when I say it’s time to go meet Tommy :)
I can go on and on about how grateful we are to have found «Tommy» But I will let you see for yourself. He is a VERY busy man. Yet willing to make the time for you. He is MORE than just your typical smart guy, he is caring, and personal and wants your child to succeed. I wish more people were like him!

I LOVE EDVANCED! This academy saved my scores and my GPA, to say the least.
James, the teacher for SAT math, Math IIC, Precalculus, and Calculus AB/​BC, is awesome. He makes students feel comfortable in their learning environments and helps them understand the material in a simple way that only he can. Under his guidance, I got an 800 on my SAT Math IIC test, a 36 in the math portion of the ACT, and a 5 on the AB test.
Tommy is the teacher for a wide variety of subjects and has covered many topics in SAT/​ACT as well. His guidance, wisdom, and gentleness makes every student feel welcome and comforted. His writing/​reading help helped me immensely in both my ACT and SAT score. Tommy (and James) cares for each of his students personally, going beyond the stark teacher-​student relationship.
As the two main teachers, they make a dynamic duo that ensures high scores in any class or test! I recommend to anyone needing any help!

This academy is really different from my experience. It is not your typical run-​of-​the-​mill academy where the teachers seem only interested in the money. No, the teachers here are really passionate about what they are doing, and it clearly shows on what they do. I went there during the summer for their 8-​week SAT course. I really enjoyed the place. The class size is pretty small, with each room averaging about 8 students (out of 2 rooms). For me, I enjoy the smaller class size since it allows the teachers to really know you as a person.
For me, taking the SAT course really helped to raise my score by a lot. I entered the place averaging about a 1800. Over the summer, I managed to raise it up to around 2000 – 2100.
In addition to SAT prep, the academy also offers other classes such as pre-​calculus, chemistry, and some AP prep. The owner/​one of the teachers, Tommy, is a really great person. He always seem to understand how the students feel and is very open to them. Other teachers are nice and always seem to be joking. However, when it is time to learn, they take it seriously.
Overall, I feel that Edvanced is a rather unique academy. The teachers there seem very dedicated to helping the students out. Nobody ever seems to be in it for the money like in other academies. They really connect with the students and the whole class almost becomes one giant family.

I can confidently say that both Tommy and James really changed my outlook on learning and had a huge impact on my future after high school. I had been tutored by both of them each before (Tommy at a different academy and James privately), and by some miracle they ended up teaming together at Edvanced! They were so great that I followed them there.
I had been one of those kids who hated math; I found it absolutely daunting. I had great grades in every other subject, but I’d come home with C’s in math. But James (through whatever magic and some… tough love) showed me that I wasn’t all that bad at it and that I was actually really good at some topics. Honestly, for the first time I actually enjoyed math and it was reflected in my grades. He built up my math foundation bottom-​up to the point that I didn’t need help at an academy afterwards.
When it came time for me to take the SAT Subject Test, Tommy raised my Math II score a full 130 points in just a handful of sessions over a week or so. He was attentive and made sure to understand where I was having difficulties. When I needed extra help, he was approachable, and I felt comfortable staying late to ask him extra questions.
Edvanced is really different from other small academies and even the mega-​SAT academies. I went to almost all of them. Trust me. What other academy has such raving reviews from the actual students? Tommy and James care about your education. They’re extremely fun and easy to talk to, but they take each student’s learning seriously.

Edvanced Learning is place where the teachers genuinely want to help students improve academically and mentally. This academy definitely doesn’t disappoint. When the summer before junior year was slowly coming around, I was desperately trying to find a SAT prep program. I actually was enrolled in another program before I came to Edvanced, but I quickly dedicated myself to Edvanced’s classes because I found that all the other academies had only money and reputation in mind.
What I really liked about Edvanced was the class atmosphere and the student’s relationships with Tommy and James. They make you feel at home in class and are completely willing to provide one-​on-​one attention if you need it. Not only did I improve my SAT scores, I also decided to sign up for other classes that the academy provided. I took AP Calculus AB/​BC classes with James, who makes math enjoyable. I also took SAT Math 2C classes where James helped me reach my 800 goal.
Overall, Edvanced Learning is a good place for any student. Tommy provides much more than just a SAT program or math class — he gives great advice for college, connections, opportunities, and mentorship.
