I stayed here with a friend this past weekend. We originally wanted to go to Galveston but all rooms were taken. We opted to try out the La Porte beach, Sylvain. This hotel was about 5 minutes away from the beach. We checked in an went up to the second floor. It was rather odd because you walked up the stairs to the second floor and I didn’t see an elevator. I’m sure there has to be one, I just didn’t bother to look. Upon entering the room was sweltering hot! I’m guessing the air wasn’t turned on to conserve energy… which is understandable. However, we reserved online so they should have turned in the air before our arrival so that their guests could enter and feel welcomed an comfortable. It took forever to cool the room down, like a good two hours! The room was very clean and that’s what really matters when staying away from home. They only had two towels in the bathroom. No wash cloths and no hand towels. They also only had two tiny bars of soap. No extras like shampoo, conditioner or mouthwash. The beds were a decent sleep. Nothing luxurious but not the worse I’ve slept on in more expensive places. We asked for extra towels the second night. They told us that it would be an extra 5 dollar charge per set. They explained that there is one set per bed which includes a washcloth, hand towel and bath towel. Funny how we didn’t have a full set of towels the first night and the second night they try to charge us extra for two towels. They offer a free breakfast but we did not eat it either morning. This is a place to stay if you are on a budget or if your passing through and staying a night. Make sure to tell them when you reserve to turn on the AC and stock with your full sets of towels before you get there.
