There are a lot of rules to follow, we called ahead because we had a rather large group(14). I asked if my husband and I could have a separate check and the guy just about lectured us, and he insisted this was information given to us when reservations were made, I hadn’t made the reservations and I didn’t know, he proceeded to point out on the menu that large parties can only split their checks 4 ways so my husband asked if we could be one of the four, but he shrug and said it would be taken care of at the end. We checked in on Unilocal and asked for our free kettle chips, they brought them out and someone on the opposite side of the table checked in as well and asked for a basket, well the rules state that you can only receive 1 complimentary basket per party. That’s fine, a bit ridiculous for a party of 14, our bill total was $ 456.50 and the cost of kettle chips is about $ 3.00. The food was gorgeous, beautifully platted and the sticky buns is probably one of the tastiest things I’ve ever eaten. The food is reasonably priced for the amount they serve, the portions are generous. Overall the experience was made mediocre by the server. We had an amazing waitress that was backing up our main server but he was kind of an @ss. I didn’t feel welcomed, infact I kinda of felt as though I was imposing on their day. I wouldn’t recommend this place for large parties. However I will be returning with my family and giving it another go because those sticky buns are too yummy to pass on. Tip; bring cash to avoid the check spilting lecture.

My wife and I have been wanting to try this place for a while… So we finally had a chance to, we ordered bacon wrapped jalapeños, onion rings, truffle fries(not your ordinary fries) mac n cheese, kettle chips which are free when you check in, and bone in pork special. So basically we had a mini buffet. I must say food was delicious, the bacon wrapped jalapeño was also deep fried with cream cheese inside! Onion rings were deep fried and battered like calamari, The truffle fries were not your ordinary fries, they were round sliced potatoes deep fried properly, with delicious real Parmesan cheese, and a creamy truffle sauce. Mac n cheeses was pretty good, made with white cheddar and pieces of Ham in it #hammed it. Kettle chips were so fluffy and good! And even better because it was free for checking in with Unilocal!#cheapskate. Ok moving on, to the bone in pork special, the pork was cooked perfectly, tender and moist, topped with a delicious sauce, and served with a very delicious cold potato salad, normally when pork is paired with a warm side, But this works out perfectly, as the hot pan seared pork is placed above the potato salad it gels together and makes for a very delicious plate. All in all it was a good dining experience with delicious food. Highly recommend trying… We will be back to try more things!

My husband and I came here for dinner. We saw the reviews about their unique atmosphere and food. We weren’t disappointed. We tried the bacon wrapped jalapeños, onion rings, Parmesan truffle fries, Mac n cheese and the special of the day, seared pork chop. The bacon wrapped jalapeños had a light batter that was seasoned well and stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. It was yummy! The onion rings were battered like calamari. I think out of everything we ordered that night, the onion rings were my least favorite. They were still good, but a little too salty and the batter kept falling off the onion, leaving a crumbly mess . Loved the parmesean truffle fries. The potato isn’t cut like normal French fries, they are big circular chunks of the potato, perfectly seasoned and deep fried, then slathered with a truffle sauce. The mac n cheese was very creamy and had chunks of ham in the mix and topped off with bread crumbs. Lastly the seared pork chop! Oooh yum! It was cooked right and you got a huge pork chop over a nice cool potato salad. The sauce on the top and a perfect sweet note that complimented the chop well. We got free kettle chips for checking in on Unilocal and they were good too! We definitely ordered a little buffet for ourselves that night, but everything sounded so good, we had to try as much as we could! Can’t wait to try more of their menu! Especially their brunch!

We actually drove from DTLA to eat here, and were severely disappointed. We waited for ten minutes, only to be told it would be another ten. We waited the ten more minutes, then to be told that there was a large group ahead of us(they walked in about fifteen after we did, but one of their member spoke to the maitre d and then they were seated). I asked the host how much longer we would have to wait, and he said it would be about an hour before we would get our food even if he sat us then. We then left because that’s absurd. We have been here many times and their seating is always very slow and problematic. Their food is good, but not worth the problems that their very rude and inconsiderate staff present. I highly recommend you try literally anywhere else first.

Pappas Artisanal was the best venue for my birthday Sunday brunch. I reserved the day before(I procrastinated, I know) for a party of 18 people, and they did the best job with the organization and food prep. Marc and his staff were excellent. He requested that we pre-order our entrees the night before. I emailed our orders in by midnight, and they took care of us. By the time we were seated, the food was out quick, warm, and very delicious. My guests were so impressed with their food. The staff was very friendly. The bottomless mimosas deal for $ 15 is worth it. The atmosphere was great. Just note that for a large group, they only accept 4 cards to pay, so bringing cash would be a good idea. I will recommend Pappas to everyone in need of a cute venue for their get togethers, and I plan to come back.

Sunday Brunch! Well worth the wait! This is one of the few places I have brunch at but I know it’s gonna be a favorite! The location is a cool and the menu has a nice variety. We all picked off each other’s plate and there was nothing we didn’t like. Definitely recommend check this place out! We all left with big smiles and full bellies.

My girlfriend & I needed to switch it up a bit and get out of our natural habitats. We searched for something new & where we have never been. Pappas has a cool atmosphere. The rustic environment was too our pleasure. Lighting & high ceilings gave it a good vibe. Going in, I was fairly certain this would be my first Unilocal review & I was going to be forced to not give 5 stars. This is because we waited about 20 minutes for a table that was set the entire 20 minutes(I know, first world problems). They were very busy & this didn’t bother us too much. Once seated, we were given a list of items that were not available. No biggie. Not what we wanted anyways. The drinks were good. I can’t recall the name of the tasty beverage my girlfriend ordered but it was pineapple, carrot & rum. Very good mix. I ordered the Single Rye IPA($ 6). Which was a tasty beer as I expected(most IPAs are). For food, I had the D Street Burger. Little small but tasted perfect. Ordered a sample salad with ranch to go along.($ 10.95) Overall our experience ended very positively & the what seemed to be unnecessary long wait faded into the background. This was because of the staff. They were all very attentive. Our server Marc saved the day by comping a beverage. Maybe he was sure I was going Unilocal? Was it the very obvious pictures I was taking? Whatever the case is. It saved Pappas a star. Well done. Cheers mates.

I have had lunch here several times already and I can’t believe how great the food is here. Everything is delicious even their mimosas are amazing. The setting of the place is very comfortable and relaxing. I love the fact that there’s a beautiful interior and a patio where you get a nice view of D street. The cookies I CANNOT get enough of! The staff is so helpful and friendly. They always go above and beyond when I have questions about the menu. Out of the many restaurants on this street that I have tried, this one would have to be my favorite. At the moment I have no complains at all :)

Amazing food! We ordered the meatballs and fish tacos and they were both amazing! The wait for the food was a little long but it was worth it. Portions are large and the service is great

We were told about Pappas and their quirky little hang out. What was not told to us is how incredibly fresh the ingredients are, how delicious the sides are and what a nice little selection of beers there are– both tap and bottle. I had the grilled fish tacos based on the rec by our waitress. My wife had the Cubana sandwich. Both were outstanding. So many subtle flavors melded into one fantastic meal. The cibatta for the sandwich was soft and fresh, the tacos were dual tortilla. I cannot express how fresh the meal was and the Jacaranda from Claremont Craft Brewery was a great addition. At the end we ordered the fruit cobbler. Maybe the best I have ever had! LaVerne is getting close to catching Claremont for best food in the east SG Valley, and Pappas is doing its part to tighten the competition. Well done!

I came here for brunch the other day. The place looks great. The lighting in the main dining area is lit by huge windows(the restaurant is part of a plaza). I had the hash, and it was delicious. It had huge chunks of hash, crispy/soft breakfast potatoes, perfect amount of cheese, and 2 eggs(drooling). I’m sure the rest of the food is just as awesome. They were pretty busy that Sunday morning, so they had the host help take orders. This meant we had to wait awhile to get our check. Great place. I’m glad I have a go to spot in La Verne now!

Lunch review: We got the bacon egg cheeseburger and the short rib grilled cheese. The cheeseburger flavor was outstanding and the bun was so soft. The burger alone deserves 5 stars. The grilled cheese was pretty good, but we enjoyed the burger more I think. For our sides we tried the onion rings, baked potato fries, and a free kettle chips for checking in. The onion rings were pretty good, they are the stringy kind. The baked potato fries were just sliced potatoes in a cheese sauce so we didn’t really care for them for a lunch side, but they would be good for dinner. The kettle chips were fine, just too salty for my liking. The location is great and it’s inside a building with a coffee shop across the way. For a student it’s the perfect little place to spend the afternoon. We will have to come back one weekend for brunch.

Beautiful restaurant, I love the interior of this place! On weekdays, order at the counter. On weekends, sign your name on the clipboard and wait for your name to be called and they will seat you(order at your table). I really enjoy their food here. For Sunday brunch, I enjoyed the chocolate chip pancakes. The breakfast burrito was pretty damn good too. When I stopped by here for lunch on a weekday, I ordered half of the signature chicken sandwich with a salad. I loved it! The presentation of the food was nice, and the food tasted good. The only problem I have here is the service. Every time I came here, service lacked. I would ask for an extra plate, more water, then the girl would say she would back for what I asked and she never did. Another thing is that everyone that works here seems like they’re annoyed, and they barely smile. Service is one of the most important things that make the customers feel welcome. I always felt rushed and ignored every time I came here. Would I be back? Maybe. They just need to work on their customer service although they do have pretty good food.

Get the burrito! This is the second time I’ve been here for brunch. The old timers breakfast burrito is sooooooo good! The burrito has: rotisserie bacon that is like a ham/pork belly, chipotle eggs that have a wonderful flavor with just a hint of spice and so much more. My wife had the bacon pancakes and those are super as well. We had coffee and mimosas to drink. Man! I love going here on Saturday mornings when I cruise over to La Verne for the weekly farmers market. The menu has many many many options whether breakfast or lunch. The mimosas are wonderful as well as the coffee. The aqua Fresca is very good. The atmosphere is very fun. It’s a nice open area that looks like a lobby repurposed to make a wonderful dining room. Fun bikes on the wall and TVs with plenty of fun shows. This is a must stop when in La Verne. Food is good and people are nice. Haven’t been for dinner but I have heard the dinner is quite good as well. Enjoy.

To give 2 stars is sad due to the fact it is strictly based off the HORRIBLE staff that does everything BUT service this place. This is my 3rd experience at Pappas Artisanal, and each time I receive AMAZING food. I mean the attention to detail of the flavor is one of the best in La Verne, and probably around the surrounding areas. The unfortunate thing is that they have hired complete«assholes» to run their restaurant, and each visit just gets worse & worse. I mean this time I brought two friends from Texas who are visiting, the first thing my Partner and I said to them when we were deciding was«They have amazing food, but their service absolutely SUCKS». Hoping to be proved wrong in our statement, yet again we are faced with even worse service. To explain in detail of the experience read below: First we walk in to nobody at the front, but a small sign saying to order at the counter. We walk up to the counter NOT greeted by one person, actually one of the servers passed us with a bitchy look. No one offered to assist, and provide us a menu. We picked up a menu finally to see our options, when we decided we then were finally greeted by a gentlemen who had a horrible annoyed attitude to everything we seemed to order. When asking what soup they had, he said the soup wont be ready for 30 minutes when they have already been open for over 2 hours. After we order to sit down we do not receive our waters for over 10 minutes from their servers. I mean they passed us multiple times, but once again each had the bitch face on while looking around. It’s like they decided to hire bitter college students that just hate their lives. We then waited over 25 minutes for our sandwiches and burger. But then they seemed to have totally forgot about our friends who ordered a simple salad and the same sandwich we ordered. We tried to get the attention of anyone passing, and still received unwelcoming looks from everyone. Finally we walked to the front counter to ask when they knew this food would be ready, and the guy acted annoyed and said he will check. Finally they brought out the food with no apology of the long wait that clearly was an overlook of the staff to bring the food out earlier. We were not the only ones in the place, but it was pretty empty so it’s not like they were busy at all. I mean an older women had to stand up to hunt someone down to get a container for her food she didn’t finish. Now the food was AMAZING, as always. Still the impression to not only my Partner and I being the same as before, this staff set two more horrible impressions on our friends. If they had the Chefs serve I bet it would be the all around amazing experience this place deserves to be praised for. They need to completely restructure their staff, and care about their customers more, After that they will be on the road to pure success.

Cute place, with a small outdoor patio. You order your food by the register towards the back, they give you a number and bring the food to you. The water is on the left side so you can help yourself along with ketchup. I asked for ranch dressing, they wanted to charge me a dollar. A dollar for ranch??? Apparently, I was told, they make it there. I didn’t have cash on me, I had already charged my food, and didn’t want to use the card again for a dollar. Honestly, the flavor was not all that and definitely not worth a dollar. My friend also ordered that same ranch and let me taste it. The food was really good. The menu was short and simple. Not to many choices.

I think this is a little gem in downtown La Verne. Food is surprisingly delicious and a fun aura. My boyfriend and I went full out at 9 pm, getting the fried chicken Friday special, angel hair pasta(a new item), fruit cobbler, and a couple beers. Tab came out to $ 55 so it’s not an inexpensive joint. But ingredients are very fresh, unique, and flavorful – comparable to what you can find the most popular restaurants in LA. Food took a while to come out, but the dishes were beautifully prepared. My only gripe was the service which was a little off – I think it must’ve been because we came so late? We had to ask for water refills multiple times, they had forgotten our fruit cobbler and had to remind them, they ran out of the chicken pot pie(on a Friday night!)…just not the kind of service Id expect. But I have to say, they were SUPER cool and nice. We ended up staying a little after closing hours, and there was no push to get us out. I hope to come for brunch one day, but I think I’ll call ahead for the menu – I think it changes pretty regularly. All the dishes I saw on Unilocal photos were no longer available. I was especially looking for the ramen, but it looks like it was discontinued or a one time thing.

4 ½ stars. My clients suggested coming here for lunch and I lucked out and found parking on the street just around the corner. Hidden, but worth finding — I had a good vibe about this diamond in the rough! We placed our orders at the counter where they also serve a solid variety of craft beers. My order the Pappas Cubano which my clients recommended. The sammie contained confit pork, ham, yellow mustard, swiss cheese and pickles on a ciabatta bun. I only ended up eating half of the sammie and the entire salad and saved the home made chips and other half of sammie. Everything was solid including my drink — aqua Fresca which was thrist quenching, not sweet and paired perfect with my sammie and salad. Overall, a great place for a solid business luncheon that was not your boring big box eatery. I would surely return here again.
