Chicken tacos are amazingly delicious. The food is always fresh and prepared in the authentic way. Price is very reasonable. Friendly staff. Great location in downtown Lafayette. Even a tv mounted on the wall for that occasional sports game ya wanna catch but they don’t have it on all day! Thumb’s up!

Best Mexican in Lafayette. Staff is nice, service is usually quick and great food! This deserves more than just 5 stars! I would definitely recommend it if you are either in Lafayette or the East Bay and wanting Mexican food, go to El Jarro.

This small but quaint restaurant was tucked away but so worth the walk from the nearest parking lot. I loved the salsa so much the waiter gave me a to go container. Get the Flautas and the soft tacos.

Huevos Rancheros, fantastic, a true 5 star dish in every way. The flavors — the freshness — the fresh salsa — the black beans — I enjoyed every bit of every bite and there was absolutely nothing left on the plate. Even the cilantro sprinkled on top was divine, and I thought to myself, how can cilantro taste so good? The stuff at Safeway is always so bitter. Restaurant was not at all crowded during lunch, lots of empty tables but service left a lot to be desired. One star off for service, or lack of. Food took almost 20 minutes with no one saying it would be right up, nothing. It was sat down in front of me, no one checked on me, to see how I was liking it, or if I needed anything. And to top all of the lack of service off, I finished the meal, napkin on empty plate, where it and I sat for another 10 minutes before the waiter slammed down the bill. NOTHANKYOU. NONOTHING. Hidious service. Once they straighten the service out, El Jarro will be a great place to enjoy Mexican food. Don’t think you can go wrong with any of the dishes, and I look forward to trying others.

Food is here is decent but is nothing to write home about. For Lafayette, it is probably the best you are going to get. I find this to be rather pedestrian all around, although they do have some dishes on the menu that are cut above your average joint in terms of authenticity and creativeness. That all said, I generally find their food to be a little lacking in the flavor department. If things were seasoned a bit better, I might by willing to pay the relatively high prices here, but, as it stands, I feel like it a tad overpriced for what it is.

Based on a quick review, we decided to have lunch here today, Saturday afternoon. We got a nice little table outside, and the chips, salsa and guacamole were good. At the waiter’s suggestion, we ordered the chicken enchiladas with chile verde sauce. SODISAPPOINTED! There were three corn tortillas with less than a tablespoon of filling each. The rice was white rice with a spoonful of salsa on top of it, disgusting. The black refried beans were very good, which is the only reason for two stars. I had mentioned to the waiter that I really wanted to try the housemate chile rellenos, but he did not offer to make a special plate for me. I took one of the«enchiladas» home because I did not feel like eating another soggy enchilada, and sure enough, there were two half inch chunks of chicken inside. Ridiculous… did you guys run out of filling?

The food here is great and on top of that the customer service is exceptional! I got seated quickly and served chips and 2 salsas plus their blue cheese/garlic dip(AMAZING), my drink came maybe 2 minutes or less after I ordered it and my waiter was super friendly but not over the top fake for tips, I don’t know if anyone else appreciates what I mean, he just was genuine and relaxed. Very pleased with my experience!

This was an easy location to get to since we were meeting clients in Lafayette. There is a parking lot close by so that makes it convenient. Food was average. I ordered a cod taco and a marinated pork taco. The marinated pork was flavorful with the quacamole on top. The cod was good but not as flaky as I would like. I would go back and try it again and maybe order something different.

I enjoyed every single bite of my chile relleno and green enchilada! Probably the best chile relleno I had in the US. I LOVE that the salsas are fresh. Black beans were delicious. Service was fantastic. I left the restaurant feeling happy for a great lunch! Definitely coming back to try other dishes. THANKYOU!

Consistently good food and a relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend the carnitas taco and the toluca torta.

Was looking for some quick and decent Mexican in the vicinity of Lafayette. That’s just what this is. We had the crispy chicken flautas, vegetable enchiladas Oaxacaquenos, and a huevos plateros dish. My friend said the flautas were decent but lacking in flavor. I didn’t care for the sweet flavor of the enchiladas(filled with potato?) but CR loved it. The huevos were two sunny side eggs with corn tortillas, refried black beans and some queso fresco. Nothing too spectacular, but it satisfied our craving. Chips and salsa were on point. Margaritas were decent, nothing fancy, with a good kick. They had a TV and put on the Warriors game for us, which was appreciated! Service was otherwise okay. There was an extra menu item on our bill that we didn’t order but it was quickly removed.

If I were to rate just the food I’d probably say 3 stars. But the combination of crappy service & an overpriced menu brings it down to 2 stars. I had the garlic shrimp & they were pretty decent. Asked for extra hot salsa & got charged an additional $ 2.75 which seems like BS to me —(in addition to being charged just for chips & salsa in the first place.) The service was in inattentive, our waitress seemed like she was just on auto pilot and did not want to be there. Want really good Mexican? Drive an extra 15 minutes to Martinez & go to La Prima Vera.

I have to be honest-this was not my first choice for dinner in Lafayette on a Friday night. After looking at long waits elsewhere and completely over it for the week, I Unilocaled this spot and it seemed it would do. For starters, if they offer you a table in the back, wait for something else to open-or walk away. I had the single most unpleasant dining experience in their back room. It was freezing cold and the small cramped space with cement walls allowed for the most jarring noise and echoes of the surrounding conversations. It was so loud back there(with only 4 other tables) I literally had to shout at the top of my lungs to speak to my boyfriend. One other couple got seated back there and then left after a few minutes. It’s not the fault of the restaurant but the patrons back there were obnoxious and the space just exacerbated their noise. Even once the offending table left, it was still jarringly loud and cold back there. Now, to the food. The veggie burrito was flavorful and tasty-the grilled bell peppers were fresh along with greens and great quality. They use white rice and whole black beans. For some, the portions, may be too small, but I thought it was a great size and just enough food. My boyfriend got the chicken flautas and really enjoyed his dish. He didn’t want beans so they offered him salad instead. Chips and salsa are extra but well worth it, especially if you tack on the homemade and fresh guacamole. As a starter, it was absolutely worth it! Good food, friendly service, not so great atmosphere-you decide!

The best Mexican in Lafayette. Tortas are delicious. Prices are a little steep and service can be spotty but worth the wait and $. The place is small but clean and spacious enough. One of my favorite places in town!
