Plate lunches and bbq are pretty good but not that special. Plate lunch was tasty but the bbq sausage only taste like smoke didn’t get the flavor of the sausage.

This place is good, I like the meat very tender but man this place is so expensive for what you get, you can not share this plate at all you will still be hungry after your done but like I said it is good just points off for quantity for the price.

We did our annual(ok, quarterly) boudin run and we make Johnson’s our first stop. We were very disappointed this trip to roll in and find out that they were out of pork and that meant no boudin! Theirs is one of the best boudins I have ever eaten. Consistently perfect. I will be back.

Oh sweet Lord, I have so many nice things to say. I just had lunch at Johnson’s for the first time and I’m truly tempted to head back before it closes to pick something up for dinner. It was that delicious. Lafayette is known for the boudin and as someone new to Lafayette, I knew i had to find the right place to have my first boudin experience. Johnson’s was without a doubt the perfect choice. I got«The Drew,» a signature sandwich with boudin, house smoked pulled pork and American cheese on it — very reasonably priced at $ 6 or so. Opening the sandwich, I found it to be shockingly petite, but after my first bite, I didn’t care. Absolutely scrumptious — I felt like the sandwich was actually happy. It was a happywich. The pork and boudin didn’t overwhelm each other at all, both flavors distinct and present and surprisingly enhanced by the slice of regular ol’ ‘murrican cheese — the sandwich felt like a great representation of Lafayette in general: warm, grounded, and traditional. If I came back really hungry, I might just get two of them. My buddy ordered a sandwich with brisket and garlic sausage on it and he seemed to be in gastronomic heaven as well. Seems like you can’t go wrong. You order at the counter in the general store-esque front area, where you can also browse and pick from a host of other local goods: smoked meats and sausages(and jerky!) in the fridge, local coffee, CDs, chips/drinks, etc. Sadly they don’t serve beer, but the warm staff happily invites you grab some from the Circle K a block away and enjoy it with your sandwich on their covered porch(the only dining area I saw). 100% will come back before I leave Lafayette in a few weeks.

Wow! What a find. Some locals highly recommended the BBQ. I’ve love Central Texas BBQ – Black’s, etc. Although they do pulled brisket here, it was really good and stacks up well with what I’m used to. Also, they make their own Boudin, sausages, Gumbo, etc. All were excellent. In fact, their Gumbo is probably my all-time favorite. Really looking forward to my next trip to Lafayette and exploring the menu more. This is a local business that does great food. Very rustic with charm. The food and service got the 5 stars.

Delicious place to eat. Wide variety on the menu. We had the OJA, pulled pork sandwich, pulled chicken sandwich, 2 meat plate-brisket and boudin. Would highly recommend stopping by here!

Great little barbecue shop. Good mix of choices boudin, sausage, pork, beef and chicken. On the cheap there’s a boudin sandwich the Partain’s for $ 5, brisket sandwich with sliced sausage link on top for $ 8 or bbq plates for $ 9 — 12. Seating is all outside picnic style. Make sure to grab napkins and utensils before heading outside as there all inside. Bathroom is on the patio, there is a balcony suspect it is for groups. Enjoy.

Best BBQ in lafayette by far. Family owned. They have lots of outdoor seating. If you have some extra dough to spend, get the beef jerkey. Also, it is mandatory that you get the bread pudding because if you don’t try it, you’re making a mistake. Also, their boneless ribs are so tender they literally fall apart.

Good god they make the hell out of a Po-boy at this place. Stopped here on a trip across the country, and the staff helped us pick out some great items for lunch, and gave us a free link of Boudin to try! The taste was great, the atmosphere was casual and authentic, and the staff were so friendly! Man I wish I could go back!

5 stars for their sandwiches and spices. My favorite sandwich is the Parrain. How can you beat a grilled cheese stuffed with boudin? 4 stars because there is only outdoor dining and during the summer with the heat and rain sometimes you can only order food to go.

READTHISFIRST: Everytime I am in this part of the country I make a point of stopping here. Even getting a hotel room nearby last time and waiting until they opened. SAUSAGE: It is fantastic, get some to go. This is always cooked/smoked to perfection. You dont want to «cook» it at all. Simply reheat it under hotest tap water in the plastic it comes in for a few minutes, then remove the plastic and and quick grill or broil it close to the hight heat very quickly to get full snap back in the skin. BOUDINBALLS: Best I’ve ever had. Simply stellar. Eat as many as you can when they’re fresh out of the fryer. They are NOT greasy or oily, they ARE filled with super tasty peices of meat and just the right ammount of rice and have the perfect kick that leaves you maybe wanting a drink but you definatly dont need one. I eat them there and get some to go but have yet to make it out of the state without eating the to go portion. BREADPUDDING: If you buy only one… you are a fool. I might like it even better room temp but hot, cold or otherwise this is incredible. PULLEDPORK: Classic style but is not only very moist but also very, very flavorful. No sauce needed. PULLEDBRISKET: Its not Texas style and its not the usual«almost potroast» thing you get when people dont know how to cook brisket. This is something very different and truly great in its own right. It is what is says it is, «pulled brisket» think«pulled pork» but with the richness of beef and slow smoaked brisket and it is fantastic on their sandwiches and goes great with the pulled pork. In fact compliment each other. I have never tasted their sauce because tghe meatws have so much moisture and flavor that I have never needed or wanted to, but if its like everything else they do. you would probably want to do shots of it. It is already great yet this place just keeps getting better.

We were on a road trip from Texas to New Orleans and this was our first stop to eat in Louisiana. We’ve never had authentic Louisiana cooking so our expectations were a little high. Needless to say, this place didn’t disappoint. I ordered the ribs with jambalaya and it was delicious. There is no place to eat inside, only outdoor seating. The staff was friendly and the service was efficient. It was too bad that we didn’t have time to stop by again on our way back.

First time in Lafayette and first time eating boudin! I love that they have their seat outside: it’s perfect to enjoy a peaceful lunch. I got the chicken + boudin + potato salad + fruit salad. It was like eating at my grandma’s!

Friendly staff. Nice location. Good food. I had the boudin link and salad. Very fresh salad and spicy bourbon. I was especially impressed with the bread pudding. I’ll be back for sure! I think they may have live music on certain nights too.

Pretty good bbq. The slaw was so good that when my gf tried a forkful of mine she had to go buy a separate pot of it for herself.

Boudin? What the hell is boudin? Sure, I’ll try some boudin. Ten minutes later, I was wondering where boudin had been all of my life. Between the boudin and the BBQ pork shoulder, I had two dinners’ worth of food in my tray … and to my sheer delight, it was just as good reheated as it was fresh out of the kitchen. My trip to Lafayette was entirely unexpected, but I’m absolutely thrilled that going there meant finding Johnson’s Boucaniere. That alone made the drive from NOLA worthwhile.

Being Californian’s we knew nothing about Boudin when we came and were experts when we left. The person behind the counter gave us a sample and a patient explanation. Boudin is stuffed pork and rice in a sausage casing which you eat by squeezing out the filling. Who would have thought Boudin is the same as Jewish Kishka! They smoke their own meats and the results are spectacular. You order at a small counter and they bring your meal to your table outside on the porch. We had: — boudin — brisket — great but a bit dry plain, but wonderful with the bbq sauce they provide — ribs — the highlight of the meal — different then any other ribs we’ve had. Meaty, tender, flavorful. — I washed this all down with a bottle of the local Lafayette«Swamp Pop Soda» — praline and cream(a real sugar rush) If you’re anywhere near Lafayette(say 50 miles) it’s worth a drive.

This place is fantastic, as a well traveled bbq fan I enjoy getting other rakes when I travel outside of Texas. Everything I ordered was phenomenal with the real stand out the sausage potatoes side dish. I never had anything like it. All around 5 Stars, very nice people at counter to guide me through house specialties and explain all that they do from scratch. Love it
