Update: Erin from Suburban Wiener contacted me after my review and asked us to give them another try, their treat. So we did. Four stars for friendly follow up. Again, the dog we ordered was good, seemed to have less bun(hollowed out), with pretty good sauce.

How I have never been served a hot dog in a cup before is beyond me. That is pure and simple genius for serving food truck cuisine. And, yes, I mean cuisine. These aren’t your average wieners. With titles like the«McMansion» and the«Next Door Neighbor,» each of these sausages are unique combinations of ingredients you might never expect to see on a wiener. To top it off, they’re served inside a warm french baguette instead of a hot dog bun, which made everything taste a little bit better. If you see these guys parked in your neck of the woods, run, don’t walk, to get in line for something special.

Browsing the menu of Suburban Weiner I was left with one question, what should I order? It all just sounded so delicious! I asked the chef(yes, chef, not a cook this is classy wieners’ folks), «what’s good and you can’t say everything. That’s cheating.» He responded with, «well do you like hot and spicy?» Why yes, yes I do. So he suggested the hot neighbor, «because who doesn’t like a Hot Neighbor.?» Touché good sir and yes I will have one Hot Neighbor” please. He was right. It was delish! Spicy Polish Sausage with sweet n spicy jalapeño relish and deli mustard. The jalapeño relish was the real kicker to this spicy dog. It was served in a baguette that had been honed out to fit your dog and toppings of choice, but not all the way so it wouldn’t fall out. They place it all in a paper cup for easy carrying. Sold! Make sure to check them out next time they’re parked in your vicinity. You’ll be glad you did!

Had the opportunity to try out the goodies at a Unilocal event. I had the Mc Mansion which according to the menu was a stadium pork brat with bacon jam and spicy cream cheese. And according to me and my taste buds was very yummy! The gentleman manning the truck was very personable and quick. If I ever run across this truck again I will definitely partake of the offerings!

I ordered the chicken sausage /brat with the cream cheese. I thought it was alright but just didn’t completely do it for me. A little too much cream cheese for me but aside from that it was a bit blah. The service and the people were good /nice.

This truck was at my hotel last night so I grabbed a gyro dog and a pork sausage for my mom and I. The dogs were delicious but about 2 dollars overpriced. Their plain hot dog is 5 bucks! Now before I critique the service let me point out that I am visiting from Austin, a city with numerous excellent food trucks and overall customer service culture. I’ve worked in food trucks and restaurants; I know what good service feels like. So this is how it went: Im standing at the window, guy has his back turned working the grill. After a minute he turns his head and says«one moment». No smile. A bit later he leans down to take my order, «know what you want?» I tell him. «What’s your name?» I tell him. «It’s 16.» He turns the ipad to me and returns to cooking. I pay and tip, and sit down to wait. As I’m waiting a dad and his toddler walk up and ask, «what’s your closest thing to like a normal hot dog?» Without turning around the guy says, «starter home. It IS a normal hot dog.» These brusque interactions with people GIVINGTHEMMONEY continued until I got my dogs and left. I understand being a bit short with folks if you are super busy but the guy had a max of like 6 dogs queued at any time. I did not witness a single«thank you», or a «welcome, how y’all doing?» Not one measly smile or microgram of warmth. Maybe it’s a regional thing, maybe people in Colorado prefer the penitentiary cafeteria experience, but i guarantee y’all i could have stepped in that trailer, started taking orders for the guy and doubled or tripled the tips he was getting just by being friendly and nice. In conclusion: good food, shite service. I regretted tipping after seeing the way other customers were treated. Hopefully an anomaly because I’d like to see them succeed. And serve a damn chili dog. Bonus pseudoscience: servers in Texas bust their ass to please customers because if they don’t make tips they can’t pay the electric bill and will die of heat exhaustion. In Colorado everything is so nice nobody gives a shit. Servers don’t care and customers let it slide, because there is immense beauty everywhere. Like how people in Pittsburgh live and die with their sport teams, but out here you just go skiing if the Broncos suck.

I love, love, love this food truck. My son and I experienced their yummy goodness at a local festival and was pleasantly surprised at the inventive choices available. My son is picky but was able to have a plain hot dog, while my more adventurous tastes were met with a delicious lamb and beef gyro brat. Easier to eat than a traditional gyro(way less mess) with a cool, creamy tzatziki sauce. I’ll be chasing this truck down when I see it again.

This is my favorite food truck that visits the Niwot Rock N Rails free concert in the park. We’ve gotten dinner from them twice and were so happy both times. Great selection of delicious street food. I love the classic Starter Home – a great hot dog with all the traditional fixings. My husband tries something different everytime, and raves about the Hot Neighbor polish sausage and the Free Range chicken rosemary brat. I think it’s brilliant how they serve the hot dogs and sausages in a cup. They staff are friendly and the food is a great value! Definitely a fan!

Update: My first take on Suburban Weiner(evidenced in my first review) was not so great. That said, when a business owner takes the time to call directly to get your feedback on a negative experience, it speaks volumes. I talked with Erin, the owner, and it was a very nice experience. I might just give this truck another try(especially if there are just regular vegetarian«dogs»)! Gotta love it when a negative experience ends up, after time, working out. Nice job, Erin! You get it and that is what it’s all about. ***************** No doubt about it, tonight was the worst service I’ve ever had. It’s really unfortunate, since we’re all about supporting local. The veggie sausage was really terrible, so I returned it. It was nothing like any veggie sausage I’ve ever had — pasty and mushy texture, made of whole pieces of corn and lentils, I believe. It was $ 8 worth of bad. I was polite and quiet about it, as there was a line. The guy who I talked to about making a return was immediately angry and loud, told me I was«giving him shit» and argued with me. The owner didn’t do anything except toss in his own questions while I was waiting to get my cash back. He wanted to know what was I expecting. I told him I was expecting a vegetarian version of a regular dog — a veggie dog/sausage. The first guy informed me that I would never be able to get a vegetarian dog with meat in it. He also wanted to know if I really would rather have a veggie hot dog than theirs that was hand made? Yes. Any day. In the end, the owner said, «No. It’s OK. I get it.» This was after about three minutes of waiting and being argued with, so I don’t think he did get it. Locals support you, so support the locals. Pretty simple.

Tried this food cart recently and was all around disappointed. The service is really slow, I appreciate that they were busy, being the only food truck option available later at the particular venue, but they should at least know how to anticipate orders and perhaps… put brats on the grill ahead of time to serve customers right after they order, especially when there are only 4 options available; instead we had to wait another 10 minutes while the brat cooked, at least it was fresh though. The«gyro» brat is absolutely terrible, may as well take that off the menu because under no circumstance could that have tasted good. The Buffalo jalapeño brat was delicious but it also comes in at a very unsavory price. Bottom line, poor value compared to other food truck options.

This is a $ 1 brat in a 50 cent bread roll — for the price of $ 7. Go here if you are literally not able to find something else nearby, because this has to be the wurst(heh) value for money I have seen from a food truck. That begs the question, what would I expect to pay? $ 2 or $ 3 if it was really really good. But it’s not that good, it’s just a brat in some bread which is for some reason handed to you in a paper cup.

Awesome brat from Suburban Wiener. Jordan the owner is a great guy very passionate about his food. The bread he uses is wonderful and I especially liked the way he serves the sandwich in a cup. Yes, I said cup. You have to see it to get its simple brilliance. I had the Tri-Plex Stadium pork brat with candied, peppered bacon and bacon jam and it was perfectly done. He’s only been around a few months but clearly is making a name for himself. Suburban Wiener is a food truck to put on your list.

Good hot dog with interesting meat options. The wiener is put inside a hallowed out bun(non sliced) and put in a cup, so no mess and even more portable than a normal dog.
