14 West

My husband and I stayed at the 14 West just this past week. We originally were only staying 2 nights. We paid through Trivago for 2 nights for $ 302. When we walked into our room we both were impressed by how «modern» (for lack of a better word). When we went in, a small wall was in front of us, walking around corner I was looking towards the back of the room and almost fell. The bed was elevated and you step down in sitting area. There was a small wooden step, not attached to the elevated floor. It was smaller then first step and tucked against the bed frame and I almost took a header. The other thing we noticed was the water faucet at vanity was not just dripping, but coming out in a small continual stream. Since we got to hotel at 11:00pm, so we agreed to tell the office to fix it the next am. When I went into shower room and there was a huge jacuzzi style tub and shower. I’m 5’5″ and I barely was able to get in and out! There was also a sign stating the Jets were out of order. Later that night we were woken by what sounded like water spraying everywhere! Apparently the jacuzzi was on a timer. The Jets were blowing out air and no water in tub.
It seems like I’m giving a bad review, but I’m not. These was almost the only problems we had!
The next morning we went to the office who said they’d have the faucet fixed that day. As far as I know, it’s still running. The hotel itself was very pleasant, no noise from neighbors, etc. If you find yourself in need of a hotel in Laguna, this place is better then most high end ones. We decided to stay another day, not realizing we would be charged a much higher rate. plus $ 15 a day parking. Hey other then that, we had a nice time!:-) The scenery in Laguna beach is beautiful

Took a chance on this place as being first time in Laguna beach. Very nice, close to beach, and shops, small boutique hotel was pleasantly surprised, some small things but nothing major to write about, water dripped in bathroom sink. Jacuzzi in Bath wasn’t working. Will consider this place again, price was mid range for this area.

Awesome secluded place to stay and blocks away from downtown. It’s perfect, quiet and the minimalist furniture is awesome. We will be back.
*I do recommend an eye mask so you don’t wake up early like my wife due to the sunlight coming into the room

I probably wouldn’t stay here again. The location is good, the room is spacious for an extended stay. Nice to have a kitchenette (except you can’t really keep food here because the fridge was warm). They have parking which is convenient.
The fridge is loud, the air con is loud, the walls are thin. The staff is not around at night or even in the morning at check out. The room seemed clean but dated and lots of broken things. Shower situation is a bit precarious. The tub is super high so hard to get in and out unless you are 7 ft tall. The keys to the room are kept in a lock box outside the room that requires instructions posted on the window. If you knew the codes to the gate which doesn’t change you can easily get in here.
Main problem was the lack of security and noise made it hard to sleep here.

We had a fantastic stay… the hotel was well designed and wonderfully maintained. The kitchen and fireplace in the room made us never want to leave… perfect place for our romantic getaway. Location amazing right next to Ralphs in the heart of Laguna. Staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. We loved it!

At even a Motel 6 I expect a few things to be working: TV, toilet and shower.
14 West had ¹⁄₃ of those for $ 245/​night.
The TV receiver was behind the closet wall with no way to change the channel or move the receiver! The HDMI cable was also damaged. Instead of fixing this, 14 West has a paper apologizing for it. What the!!!
The toilet chain was broken. Management was quick to «fix» the toilet chain, but the chain was just reattached to the toilet flapper and it still had to be manually closed in order for the reservoir to fill. Also, the toilet paper holder was just dangling from the wall.
Housekeeping never came and the tiny trash did not help that situation.
Also, I requested «Room 8» 2 months in advance for my honeymoon, but did not receive it. Maybe it was booked, but I doubt it.
On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable, the location is good, they had a full kitchen and the design was nice. I will give them a star for that.
In retrospect, I should have paid the same amount for an upgraded unit with an ocean view at Pacific Edge across the street.

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday and it was just perfect! At first I was scared because it wasn’t like a chain hotel and didn’t have a front desk but I was wrong. The location was walking distance from the bars and shops and the parking was so easy, the hotel was very modern and beautiful and had a kitchen where we cooked all of our meals. we enjoyed the jacuzzi and relaxed most of the time at the hotel cause it was so great, we talk about coming here again soon!

Loved loved loved our stay here, the rooms and accommodations are beautiful. It is a little different than the usual hotel, you don’t get full room cleaning and I would recommend requesting extra bath and hand towels when you arrive, but it worked really well for what we needed. They are very accommodating, and it worked well for a joint Joshua Tree camping/​Laguna wedding Vacation – we had a lot of gear and appreciated the extra space. I won’t stay anywhere else in Laguna

The hotel is modern and well-​maintained. It is private with ample parking space. There is a spa and a modern common area. It is steps from downtown. There are great restaurants nearby.
The beach is across the street.
The TV situation is strange. The cable box is in the closet but you’re not in Laguna Beach to watch TV anyways.
There’s no view.

Wow, I can’t believe there are actually good reviews for this place. Stayed here with my wife and would not recommend this to my worst enemies.
1^st. No one works here, you are alone and when you need help, good luck.
2^nd the bed was broken and my wife and I were very uncomfortable.
3^rd. The fridge starting working 48hrs late and rotted the food just in time for it too work and freeze said rotten food.
4^th, the cable box is hidden in the closet, good luck changing channels.
5^th $ 225 a night and you have to pay for parking $ 15 dollars a night, its a rip off, you can stay at the motor lodge for ¹⁄₃ that and get better service.
6^th. The location is good but you can stay across PCH for half the price on the beach.
7^th Their website misguides you with photos that make it look spacious and my closet at home is bigger
8.the air conditioner is very loud, better drink lots of booze to pass out so you can sleep here.
9. State this again, there is no staff so when you don’t have any silverware in your room you’re screwed.
Honestly, if Unilocal had negative stars, this place would get all of mine.
One last thing, in their room books welcoming you to the hotel, they have a bunch of apologies for the inconveniences you have. For example, its states «we apologize for placing the cable box in the closet»
They should spend more time fixing their issues than writing the numerous apologie for them.

We booked a room here for one night out of the blue and we regret not booking the whole weekend with them. Such a great boutique hotel. It only has about 10 rooms. But the rooms are gorgeous! Very clean and very modern. They have a small kitchenette with two small refrigerator’s. And the parking is located in a gated area underground. They have a gorgeous relaxing terrace where you can BBQ. Perfect because Ralph’s is next door. Walking distance to all the shops and restaurants! I definitely will come back.

This gem in Laguna is really great! For the business traveler, families, or gathering of friends, whatever you are looking for there are so many great things about this place. Location to so many things including a grocery store to fill up your kitchenette which is fully stocked and amazing to some great eateries and places to shop. The fireplace in the room, the walk in closet, upgraded amenities and the adorable outside seating area that includes a grill. No this place doesn’t offer a gym or a pool, but there are so many trips where I don’t use those amenities so I was ok with not having these things. 14 rooms total, definitely quaint and would definitely stay again. The price is right, keep your eyes peeled or you may miss it as you’re driving buy. Love that!

My husband and I stayed her the night of our wedding. The room was very clean, and smelled nice, not the typical hotel smell. The bed sheets were very clean, and it was very comfy. I had a hard time opening the combo box for the key to the room, and opening the door. After many attempts I finally figured out how to get in the room. We most definitely will return for a small getaway.

Fantastic place. Reasonable in price, close to shops and beach. Very adult friendly. Chic and sexy décor.

Took what I thought might be a gamble on 14 West since I didn’t know much about it, but wanted to stay in the heart of Laguna Beach with my wife since we were going to get away for just one night.
This place was AWESOME!
We were given the Santa Monica #7 room which had a balcony that went out to PCH, great for relaxing out there with a cocktail before going out to a really nice dinner and some local bars afterwards (which was all within walking distance). The room was really big and had everything we needed, even a high end wine bottle opener! Some people might be turned off by not having staff there overnight, it was not a big deal. The instructions for parking and getting keys were provided via email and by text. Super easy to follow, no problems whatsoever.
Some of the rooms in the back of the complex might be a bit quieter since they are further away from PCH, but with the sliding glass door shut it was still very calming inside. The décor was fantastic too!
We loved the large shower /​deep tub… however this is my only gripe (and hence the 4 stars and not 5). i could not figure out how to get the whirlpool bath to work. There were no instructions provided for it, the drain stopper in the tub did not work well enough to allow the water level to go up to the point where it would turn on i guess? It wasn’t that big of a deal though… just would have been the icing on the cake.
Cable box was complained about by other reviewers. not a concern of ours we didn’t watch any TV (but used the nice fireplace below it). The cable box IS actually in a really strange place to be honest.
Parking was worth the $ 12 to know my car wouldn’t be hit by a drunk driver on PCH on the friday night. Gated and well lit.
Highly recommended, we will be staying here again for our next one night getaway for sure. Who needs gigantic expensive hotel chains to get a great place to stay?

Good location, block in from beach and walkable to lots of good restaurants. Nice updated room with comfortable bed and modern bathroom/​kitchenette. Hot tub and deck area nice features. Rooms are outfitted for long stays. AC unit it kind of loud and cable box in closet was annoying.
Stayed here on a Thurs in the off season (mid Nov) and felt a bit deserted. Office is only open limited hours — unfortunately they charge a parking fee, though the meters on the street are free overnight and 3 hrs during the day.

Stayed here for one night while in Laguna. This place was very reasonable for proximity to beach (200 ft) restaurants and shopping. The staff leaves at 5 or so but provide you with info to access property after hours. We arrived after hours and had no problem accessing garage or room (#11 Malibu). The room was clean and well equipped with all the creature comforts you could want to make your stay enjoyable.
Per other reviews there was the issue with the cable box in the closet. But on the receiver it explains that if you leave the door cracked the signal will reflect off glass door to box. So this was not even an issue. Also there was one light out but it was and over head light that was used for reading so it was not an issue. During the day there is no need for lighting due to all of the natural light that floods in. Overall this was a fantastic place even with the minor issues. Would highly recommend to anyone passing through on the PCH.

This is definitely one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. It isn’t a chain hotel which I like. The location is great. It’s near a few restaurants, a grocery store, and the beach. With the kitchenette located in the room and the nearby grocery store having snacks, drinks, etc in the room is very easy and convenient. Some of the other reviews stated they didn’t see staff. I did not experience this. Staff is not on site 24/​7, but I did see them during the day. Also, there is a number available if there are any issues after hours.
My only complaint with the room is that the cable box was located in the closet. So in order to change channels from the bed in front of the tv, a person has to sit on the edge of the bed and try to aim the remote at the box in the closet. Not easy.

This is the place to stay if you are in the Laguna Beach area. It is in the heart of everything so you can pretty much walk everywhere (traffic can get UGLY so this is definitely a plus). The hotel in itself is gorgeous.
The setup is a little odd… you pull through the gate to the garage and you walk up the stairs from the garage to the top where all the rooms are. But as soon as you walk up, it takes your breath away.
The hotel can be a little difficult to find, but it is just a few doors down the Holiday Inn. The rooms are modern and clean. Great staff, too.
Five stars all the way.
