Laguna Beach Animal Hospital

Our three dogs have been treated and groomed by a lot of vets, but LBAH is by far the best. Dr. Levin has a real touch for putting animals and owners at ease. The quality of care exceeds what we have experienced elsewhere. The staff is loving and responsive. The prices are reasonable. In addition, the care for the animals is unsurpassed. Dr. Jim Levin and his staff go out of their way to thoroughly diagnose and treat our dogs and explain what they are doing. The other vets and the front desk staff are equally friendly and helpful.

I don’t know how these people got such a high rating,
1^st they basically took advantage of me and my situation when my small dog had blockage due to bladder stones, they charged double for what almost any other vet I have called sense then would have charged and they did not even try to do a flush as most of the other would have, they just want to do a surgery. Mind you these are very small stones that several came out during the cathider process, in addition they want to charge nearly double for a surgery than 4 other local vets quoted 2 in the same town. 3500.00 vs 1500.00 to 2000.00
I am extremely disappointed, and actually feel ripped off!
When they give you an estimate, do yourself a favor get a second opinion…

I brought my dog to see Dr. Rosencrantz while visiting Laguna for the holidays. I was seen very quickly and she gave my pup a very gentle and thorough check-​up. She treated me like family. The visit exceeded all expectations and I recommend her to all!!!

The vet tech and Dr Rosencrantz were fabulous and caring. Miss Stella handled her first formal visit to the vet well — I don’t think we’ll ever have an issue because everyone was so fantastic. A puppy that likes to go to the vet? We have one in the making :)

First or all, having a sick pet is probably the worst feeling in the world because they can’t communicate what is going on inside of them. I started taking Gigi to Laguna Beach Animal Hospital for her first shots as a puppy, then her spaying procedure and other preventative care. The minute you walk into their office you are greeted with friendly smiles from the staff in the cheerful waiting room. Even though I was a mess with worry over my dog being sick this last visit, she was jumping around excited to be there. I really appreciated how Dr. Levin explained everything that was going on with my fur baby. He put my mind at ease and let me know he’s going to hold my hand every step of the way thru my dog’s journey to health. I really appreciate that. My dog is like my child and it’s frightening when she is sick and I have no idea what is going on inside of her. Dr. Levin explains everything in simple terms. He even goes over everything a few times until you understand completely. The front desk staff and assistants are beyond friendly. Seriously. Every single one of them! Every single visit. My dog loves going to the vet (even though it’s not always pleasant the entire time) because she gets loved on and lots of attention. Plus, I have been getting my dog bath’s here because it’s the same price as Petsmart (where we were going before), yet she comes out cleaner and happier with an adorable bow! Bring your pet here if you have a chance because it really is superb veterinarian care and a place you can trust. P. S. Lots of parking in back for patients-​which is a plus for Laguna Beach.

I took my dog who was scratching a lot and holding her rear paw up when she walked down steps. They offered to test for what she might be allergic to; I declined. Then this doctor told me that my dog had a hip condition and would need to have her pelvis broken to be repaired. The dog was a year old and weighed 17 pounds. After saying that he took x-​rays, prescribed about three pills for the scratching and kept her in their back room for well over an hour. When I went back to see the dog, she was in a cage in a dark closet with the door closed;-not kidding.
Later the doctor called to tell me she did not have a hip condition that would need surgery, still I was traumatized and out about $ 300. He refused to give me any money back even though I asked, in writing. Then he called me for 3 consecutive Friday afternoons offering to re-​examin the dog for free or give me a free examination from another vet.
I would not recommend this animal hospital to anyone. Friends who’ve been there concur that they love to load you up with pills and procedures that they can charge for in addition to the examination.

Although my dog hates to go here, the staff is very friendly and compassionate. They give 5 star service. Right in the heart of Laguna Beach. Where else can you take your dog for a walk on the beach after her services. Thank you staff Hachi really does like it there.

Great place to take you family pet. The staff is very friendly and professional. They even call to check on your pet the next day. My family has used them for many years.

We moved from Northern California late July which meant we were going to have to take Drogo away from his vet that he’s been with since he was 6 weeks old (3 years old now).
Searching around for the bet price and location, I came across this place. They had a free exam for new patients special and had the lowest heart worm testing price. The moment we came in, Drogo threw his front paws on the counter to say «hello» to the staff. The doctor was amazing and he loved her. The only time he was nervous was when he smiled at an assistant, she showed fear, and that made him unsure. After she left, he was great. They called 2 times to check up on him and sent a card letting me know how wonderful he was! We will be back when it’s time for him to get updated shots.

I’m not confident about this place at all.
Was recommended unnecessary shots and antibiotics for my inside cat. I have a background in medicine, and while I know animals are different than people, I do know a bit on the subject.
The cat had cat acne, which looks disturbing, but is not that bad. We were told he needed a full week of antibiotics, and a special ointment (not Neosporin).
Of course anyone can use the excuse to err on the side of caution, but the doctor’s recommendations were a big overkill… And/​or lacking in judgement/​experience.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I felt they were pushing me for treatments, and were using big medical words (medical vocabulary) quickly to convince me of the same.

We brought in our cat Fuzzy to see about his smeezing, bad breath and fleas. They had a private waiting room for us so as not to share his fleas with other pets. They were very thorough and presented a nice list of helpful recommendations. Great staff and just $ 62 for the hour long office visit. We have found our veterinary office!

Very good vet that has helped me out with my dog Schatzi several times. Dr Levin is a great guy and has always explained everything in depth. My only issue is that if you take the animal for a visit, they often try and do all kinds of maintenance on the animal. This might be normal, but your eye infection can cost $ 500 real fast. Anyway, I love this place and will always take my dog there. Thanks Dr Levin.

This place is amazing. Took my puppy to get spayed, not only did they give me a really good price but they also took care of her very well. I was told by other hospitals that my puppy would be given back shortly after the surgery, but here I was told that they had to keep her over night to monitor her and make sure everything was ok. When I got her back my puppy was fine and everything went well. I was not pressured to add anything to the surgery and I was given options to better care for my puppy. I am definitely going back for the rest of my puppy’s procedures and highly recommend this place. The front desk staff was also very helpful and all my questions were answered.

We unfortunately lost our puppy yesterday. His name was Clyde and he was the most amazing dog we could imagine. We came in frantically (just done with a hike, covered in sweat and a mess!) and without notice of this emergency. I cannot express how grateful I am that the Laguna Beach animal hospital and their doctors did everything they could to try to help save our son. Unfortunately, things played out the way they did and we are devastated, but the support we received for those few hours will stick with us. Thank you so much for treating us with compassion and respect in the worst time of our lives. We know they did everything they could for our loved loved dog. This is the place you want to take your babies.

Since moving to So. Cal. in 2004, my wife and I have been customers of LBAH. Dr. Levin’s entire staff has taken exemplary care of our Labrador retriever and Calico cat. The entire staff is knowledgeable, compassionate, and consultative. They’ve helped us through very challenging allergy issues with our black lab Chase, to having to put our Calico cat Lilian down today after almost 15 great years with us. Lilian being my first pet, made this one of the most difficult days of my life individually and as a couple.
Once again, Dr. Levin’s staff couldn’t have been more reliable and compassionate during this difficult time. Thank you again!

Had Hoshi
vaccinated and they gave him a free exam. He passed with flying colors with Dr. Levin calmly telling me he is one happy and nice puppy. Thanks Doc!
The true test was when he was neutered and had to spend the night. He has never slept away from us and I was extremely worried. When I picked him the following day after his surgery he was actually happy to see Dr. Levin. If I were a dog, I may not be as happy to see the doc! I noticed that he was wearing the plastic cone and I had asked that he be fitted with the blow up smaller cone. Dr. Levin quickly asked someone to come by and change it. The gal that came by saw Hoshi and cried out «Hoshi»! Boy, was he a happy camper so happy to see this gal! Talk about putting my mind at ease about the people who take care of my precious pup.
Why the 4.5 stars?
I asked Dr. Levin if Hoshi could start on a heart worm preventative. He indicated that a test was needed and if he passed I would start giving him Trifexis. Test was done and I never received a call that night as he indicated earlier. I waited all day the following day and toward the evening, I called them and they indicated that Hoshi passed and I can start giving him the tablets. A little hiccup and all is good.

This place is great! The staff is incredibly nice and helpful! I brought my pup in for her first checkup and shots. She was a bit whiney and nervous but she warmed up after a few minutes. The nurse who did the intake was very professional, polite, and genuine. I was worried because I rescued the pup and I wanted to make sure she was okay. Dr. Levin did a great job of putting me at ease, this guy is awesome. It’s safe to say we’ve found our new vet, Abby and I will be back :-)

I love taking my dog to Laguna Beach Animal Hospital! Dr. Levin and his staff are very friendly and reliable.

Dr. Levin and his team are amazing. My very skidish cat had knee surgery. During his recovery he needed to stay at the Hospital for two nights. Not a big deal for most cats. But for Christian this was more traumatic then the surgery. Dr Levin noticed the stress on my cat and me. He met me at the kennel on Saturday and Sunday when he was off for the weekend to insure both Christian and I were doing well. They are so caring for both the pets and their parents. I highly recommend and would never take my cats any other place.
