We had our wedding reception at Watermarc on June 11th. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Laguna and we new it would be a perfect intimate setting for our 30 quests. We worked with Lucy the manager who assisted us in planning the event. Lucy and her staff did a great job in making our event special! All the guests raved about how delicious the food was and that it was a perfect location to have our reception. Thank you so much Lucy and give Kudos to Kevin and the rest of the team. You guys rock! The vibe of this restaurant is great. It’s busy, so it’s best to make a reservation before arriving. I really enjoyed their blood orange cocktail along with their bacon wrapped dates. My only complaint is that the seats are very close to each other and that there isn’t much space on the tables for food, but other than that it is an enjoyable place.

I have been coming to Watermarc for a long time and was hoping for another great meal last night, especially given the fact it was my best friend’s BDay. I called in the morning to be sure that we have our special table by the window as well as that they are aware it is a BDay celebration occasion, and the lady I spoke with that morning was very pleasant and said all is set. We arrived at 6:30pm and were seated promptly. Then the«cold/unpleasant» experience began. Our waiter Keith(never introduced himself so I had to look it up on the CC bill) was clearly not too happy and felt as he did not want to be there last night. I understand we all have bad days, however, when working in the hospitality industry and dealing with customers who are hoping for a pleasant dinner while spending couple hundred dollars on dinner for two, at least faking it would work. So we order our appetizers, I have to ask about the specials, then he opens our bottle of wine. Each time he came back to pour us some more wine and we both said thank you, he could care less. There was absolutely no contact, I felt like we were bothering him with just being there. Then the salads came(brought out by two younger ladies) so we ate those and then someone else showed up with our entrees. I ordered the NY Strip as last couple of times the filet mignon(Wellington style) was not cooked properly, so thought with a thinner steak should be a done deal. My friend had the Chilean Seabass. So I cut into the steak and even though I specifically explained to Keith what medium I am looking for(pink throughout/evenly but no bloody/moving center) that is exactly what I had in front of me. Since he did not come back to see us after the food was dropped off, I had to flag him down. He apologized, asked me if I wanted this cooked more or if I would like a new one, to which I said I would like a new one as we all know, if you keep on re-cooking the same cut(already cut in half and its lost all the juices) it will be a loss. So he took it away. And so the BDay boy is eating his meal alone and I wait. Then I get the same steak back, the outsides are of course cooked to a crisp and I have to cut into all these fatty parts to get a proper piece of meat. I tried the other half with the same result. At this time the other party is done eating and I have to flag someone down to say that I am not going to eat this recooked/fatty piece of meat. I was asked if I would like something else, well, even though I was hungry, I would end up eating alone. Keith did bring a free desert with candle and said Happy Bday(which was the nicest thing all night) so we really appreciated that and then I asked for the check. So clearly something went amiss last night. The service always used to be friendly and attentive yet not overwhelming, last night was unfriendly and sterile. I understand that mistakes happen but for Tue night when it is not that busy, one would think that in a fantastic place like Watermarc(that has delivered over and over), whomever was grilling the steak would pay more attention especially when the waiter and I discussed the expectations and why I chose NY Strip over a filet mignon. And if you tell your customer you will get a new cut, you should deliver on your promise. I was hoping that a manager on duty would come by so I can let them know about the overall experience with the unfriendly service and issues with the food, but no such luck. I do hope that perhaps this was just«ONEOFF». The two stars are for the friendly woman on the phone with reservation confirmation as well as the friendly hostess, the second star is for the Chilean Seabass and a free desert. Three stars would mean«A-OK», which last night did not turn out to be.

Great food but really pricey! If you’re in Laguna and are hungry for an American menu restaurant, look no further. Their iced tea is bomb and salads are perfectly portioned. However, be ready to spend on average $ 18 per person.

Watermarc was our first stop. We walked in with no reservations and they accommodated us with not a problem. It was our first night out of town and we were excited to find this place was walking distance from our hotel. The line up for the night: 1) Burrata Mozzarella, 2) Blackened«1855» New York Strip Steak and 3) Braised Short Rib. The Burrata fresh and a generous amount with tomatoes. The entire dish was sprinkled with balsamic vinegar with gave it a nice twist. The pita looking bread however was just so so. Our fresh bread arrived towards the end of our buratta dish and we started to use that bread as our base. We ordered the NY Strip Steak as Medium Rare and we were happy to find it arrived as so. The meat was tender and juicy. The portion was a nice hefty piece, sharable for two. There was a thin fat layer on the bottom of the steak, that I personally enjoyed. The Braised Short Rib was on the dry side for us. We only ate half of it. We dislike wasting food but we definitely could not scarf this one down. This dish was the deal breaker for us

After having a disappointing experience at Skyloft trying to get a table of 10, Watermarc came through with flying colors! Even for a party of 10! I know it’s difficult, but it’s all in the attitude how you treat the guest. Thanks for treating us right! Devon, was simply AMAZING!!! He treated us with utter kindness and professionalism! Thank you!!!

Sigh… I REALLY wanted to love Watermarc after reading the menu. What we both had over the course of two visits for Lunch(I usually always go to a place twice before writing the review and try to sample the scope of the menu) Filet Mignon Pot Pie Crab Cake Surf and Turf Burger Vegetable Burger House Chips Sweet Corn Risotto Sweet Macadamia Bread Pudding with Pineapple Ice Cream Filet Mignon Pot Pie — Excellent. Not much can be said. I loved it. But others have mentioned the consistency of the flavor varies. Crab Cake Appetizer — under seasoning heaven. Talk about using a lot of salt and pepper to fix this. I have to say they were quite bland and I felt sorry for my girlfriend. Surf and Turf Burger — Big disappointment. I forgot the cheese on top, but doubt it would have helped. Waited about 20 minutes… burger came out well done. They scorched the cow to kingdom come. I requested medium rare. fries cold. NOT Lukewarm… just room temperature. Like touching the table. Sent it back for them to make it properly. Was told staff was over going changes… shift reschedules etc… some guys who hadn’t cooked there before? Second time the fries finally had heat… The burger patty… was BETTER… it was medium. Still… utterly flavorless though. The patty literally tasted like nothing. I didn’t send it back again because I honestly didn’t think they were capable of making it medium rare or delicious. I was there to eat… not spend time explaining how to cook a patty medium rare or the basics of at least seasoning meat properly. It seemed like an impossible task I gave the chef…“just don’t triple kill my cow!” He couldn’t be stopped, though! At least the fries were hotter second time around, however, the Shoestring fries were very ordinary in terms of their flavor profile. In N Out burgers can top this première burger I had(The most expensive on their menu). Vegetable Burger — Truly exceptional. Flavorful… girlfriend had this. As a meat eater, even I was jealous she had a less expensive and amazing burger… and I got STUCK with the overpriced Surf and Turf Burger that the chef couldn’t even cook properly twice. Sweet Corn Risotto — Exceptional. Creamy, buttery, sweet, and just right. It really made me want to eat it all. House Chips — Would be great if «Marc» Cohen of Water’Marc’ added truffle fries to the menu than charging $ 9 for some scanty house chips(where they put a napkin underneath to make it seem like it’s piled on when it really isn’t) you’re paying $ 9 for a glorified mini chip bag that should cost 85 cents AT most. Even with a 900% ‘Marc’up(pun intended) — come on… you can do better than that price! Flavor wise the white truffle oil didn’t deliver. Garlic Aioli was very nice. Bread pudding — Get it. it’s almost similar to the 230 Forest Restaurant(also owned by Marc) and is exceptionally flavorful. Service was wonderful thanks to William. Really appreciated his service and care in agreeing with me that the food came out wrong and addressing it right away. I believe the second time a manager brought it out(female). She was so sweet. Really appreciated her coming out and apologizing. But again… I didn’t want to send back the burger a third time. I’m not in the business of lecturing how things should be made to a sweet manager like that or putting her down. Naturally if you tell someone«yeah this is messed up again» it’s going to affect them negatively… manager or not. Just human nature. I could tell she would also be very embarrassed because she sounded like she did care when she brought it out. I doubt it would have even helped letting her know I didn’t like it a second time not to mention it personally upsets me when I waste food… even if I’m paying for it and it comes out very WRONG. The real issue was the«chef» cooking my burger. Marc– was this you? I doubt there’s anything the manager could do about that. So, Would I go back to Watermarc? The answer is a resounding ‘no.’ Nearly $ 70 later for two people during one lunch visit… I found my experience lackluster personally. They couldn’t get the main entrée right, and though I appreciate them for trying, I cannot stand a chef that cannot deliver in terms of consistency and moderation. He wasted food, and the second time I didn’t even send it back in fear that the chef would waste MORE food. If your thing is medium rare… I would avoid this place. If your thing is flavor(which it should be) I would say Watermarc is spotty at best. Flavor all over the place and the typical Laguna Beach industry of cooking inconsistency reigns supreme here too(as previous lower star reviews have truthfully mentioned). Sadly… one in many restaurants that overcharge for food and deliver little in terms of a really memorable experience.

Ambiance is great, the server is attentive, food is fresh(but this also means they are more likely to not have certain menu items). Pro — the place isn’t super packed and can always accommodate a group. Con — that’s because it’s right next to Nick’s and presumably not as good? Either way, the steak and short rib were delicious, and perfectly cooked. I also recommend the octopus, which was really tender and flavorful.

I was very impressed with both the service and food here. We all liked every single thing we ordered. The patio seating was especially nice for lunch time on such a beautiful day. First I really appreciated that they set up the kids’ high chairs before we got to the table. It makes it so much easier to convince toddlers to sit in a high chair when they don’t feel like they are getting a big kid chair taken away from them. They also offered the kids wikki sticks instead of crayons and the novelty of that bought my husband and I a solid 30 minutes of peaceful eating times. We started with the burrata appetizer and that was one of the best I’ve had in a while. I really liked the pesto they served with it. My husband started with a Ceasar salad and then had the fish and chips. Not a crumb was left at the end of the meal. I had the mushroom soup with a celery root fritter and the garden salad with goats cheese, cranberries and almonds. All so tasty. The kids especially liked the shoe string fries. Rumor has it, they serve beignets but we already had our hearts set on gelato next door so we passed this time but we may have to come back to give them a try.

I noticed a sign out front that said $ 5 bloody marys. Having just spent $ 12 for one a couple of doors down, I thought«Why not?» and stepped in to try one. It looked nice, with three olives and a cucumber slice, but really didn’t taste good. I don’t know exactly what it was. Perhaps too much salt and pepper, a bad mix? The cucumber didn’t help. It just tasted odd and harsh. I know. It was only five bucks in Laguna Beach. I was close to sending it back, but let it water down considerably, and was able to suck it down. I was just that close to walking away from it. Other than that the bartender was nice and attentive, and the place is pretty cool inside. I should also note that the bar smelled a bit like gray mop water, or a restaurant floor after a busy night. Not horrible, but distinctly there.

Had dinner with some friends here a few weeks ago and was slightly disappointed. Maybe because I expected a lot more because of all of the reviews on Unilocal. To be honest, nothing was bad, but nothing was amazing either. For example, the service. Service wasn’t bad. Our server was cordial and did everything right. But no warmth. I mean I don’t want you to talk my ear off, but some conversation would be nice, especially a restaurant like this. The food was ok. Once again nothing was bad, but nothing was incredibly memorable. Actually the patè was pretty good. But that’s prob the only thing I really thought was tasty. Wine list was pretty cool. The server recommended a Pinot and it was pretty good. Great location if you want to be in the center of the hustle and bustle of Laguna Beach.

Came here with my wife for an early dinner and we enjoyed ourselves! We decided to share 4 of the grazing plates which are a couple dollars off during happy hour. We tried the Char grilled octopus which was my personal favorite, oysters on the half shell, lump crab cakes, and the herb crusted lamb chops. The food presentation was spectacular, flavors were abundant, and portions pretty decent! Service was good, but not flawless. We will definitely be back to try more dishes soon! Highly recommend you give it a try.

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic when it comes to its tapas and drinks. I shared a few small plates as my meal as well as drinks. The octopus was out of this world! It was cooked to perfection, had amazing texture and was simply delicious. We also shared a lamb chop salad that was divine. The lamb was seasoned very well and was cooked to my liking; medium. We also shared the shrimp which was quite tasty and had great presentation. I paired my food with a nice earthy wine from Oregon that was very complimentary to my food choices. The bread and butter the server brought out at the start was also really tasty, especially the butter that had a very unique taste to it. I look forward to trying this spot again. The seating upstairs is also very beautiful, romantic, and feels like an intimate dinner party setting.

We went to the Watermarc in Laguna Beach for a belated Valentine’s Day dinner. The reviews I had read were encouraging, and I liked the idea of eating somewhere in Laguna Beach so we could walk around a little before and after. ATMOSPHERE/SEATING They pack you in pretty tight here. I didn’t totally mind this, but this did mean that you were very easily listening in on the conversations around you and it was a little awkward for the waiters to move in and out of the different areas. It was very loud, which made conversation a little rough, but I liked the lighting and table settings. Since your cutlery and napkin come on a nice little plate, it’s obvious that sharing is encouraged here. SERVICE I think we were unlucky and got the most unmotivated waitress working there that night. She didn’t ask us if we had been there before(we hadn’t), explain the menu, nor did she mention any specials they had(I later saw the specials on a black board as we were walking out). She didn’t check up on us often and she was really just generally awkward. I don’t think this experience is the norm here, as the other servers I saw seemed to engage with their tables really well and check in on them frequently. DRINKS I had the Paris cocktail to start which was delicious. Champagne, St. Germain and a blackberry, very sweet but a good opening. I had trouble ordering wine for our entrée course as our waitress didn’t check in with us often; also, the wine I initially ordered was out, so it may be prudent to ask your waiter if they’re missing any of the selections before getting your heart set on one. FOOD Some of what we ate was very good, and some was not. The fresh bread and butter(our waitress didn’t tell us what the butter was… we think garlic of some sort) were appreciated and delicious. The burrata mozzarella was delicious. They kind of turned it into a caprese in that the grilled flatbread had balsamic vinegar drizzled on top and there was an herb pesto and tomatoes on top of the burrata. The burrata was nice and creamy, so that was a definite win. The wild mushroom soup was not very good. The celery root fritter was pretty good; it actually tasted like it had cheese in it. They pureed the whole soup and were fairly heavy-handed with the truffle oil, so all you could taste was truffle oil with a faint taste of mushroom. Pass, would not order again. We shared the Filet Three Ways as well as the Potato Purée Trio. For the filet, we really liked the Wellington style and the Diane style. The Oscar was very meh. Though we liked the styles, we did feel that the meat could have been seasoned much better. A bit of salt would go a long way. The potato purée trio was probably my favorite of the night. They executed on the flavors promised very well and it was great for sharing. We unfortunately didn’t have any of the desserts(too full), but the lunchbox sounded promising. In all, it wasn’t a bad experience, but it wasn’t the best either. I wouldn’t avoid eating here if I was in Laguna, but I also wouldn’t go out of my way to go here again.

My fiancé took me here for my birthday during brunch time. I LOVE this place. What we got… — Steak pot pie: definitely skip, it was too salty. The pie shell was flaky and good, but the brown gravy inside was way too salty, the vegetables did not simmer down the salt taste. — Fresh ricotta cheese: MUSTGET! best thing I’ve eaten in my life. The cheese is slightly warm and creamy. Served with fresh heated crispy bread on a plate of honeycomb and raisins. I loved every bit of this dish. It’s even inspired me to make fresh ricotta at home, but I can’t get it as good. I don’t know their secret. — Malbec wine, tasty indeed! We got the bottle. — Free beignet dessert: because it was my birthday! They’re so nice here. It was a full delicious dessert that came with a candle. It’s fresh made beignets with a pot of crème and mascerated blueberries. I don’t even like sweets, yet I couldn’t stop eating this. I would spoon the crème straight into my mouth, forget the beignet vessel. Service is top notch here. Our server never missed a beat. As soon as I asked for more bread, he brought it to us. He was the one that gave us our dessert too. Can’t rave enough about this place.

The ambience at this restaurant is a perfect place to go on a nice date! The restaurant lighting is dim and there are surrounding Christmas lights hung outside that adds a cute touch to décor! The food is more on the pricy side, but if you really want to impress your date, it’s all worth it right? I know I sure was! The food was amazing, literally all cooked perfectly! We ordered the filet mignon pot pie, seafood paella, and scallops! For drinks we ordered a strawberry basil hard lemonade and a Moscow mule! All very delicious and filling! However, the dessert menu wasn’t that great so we didn’t end up ordering any. Great food, but customer service could of been better. It was difficult to get service from our waiter. We had to get his attention a few times just to get what we wanted. Overall, it was a great place! Would definitely recommend this place to my friends!

Excellent meal, beautiful scenery and outstanding service. What more can one ask for? Bobby is a GREAT server! We ordered the House Chips as an appetizer. They definitely didn’t skimp on the portion. The garlic aioli sauce is to die for. I opted for the salmon and a glass of Foley Chardonnay which complemented the meal well. We were too full to order dessert but all around happy with this restaurant.

Fantastic meal! Pricey for a mid-week dining experience but since we were in the area we decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day early. We were quickly seated and service was pretty awesome: fast, friendly, and informative. I was debating between a 3 or 4 star but their service and food really put them up to a 4. We started with the bacon wrapped dates and grilled octopus. Bacon-wrapped dates tasted good but weren’t too special and I felt the bacon could have been crispier… the flavors melded too much that I couldn’t get the savory & sweet differentiation which is what I like this dish for. The almond in the center was fantastic. The grilled octopus was amazing. Super tender and not at all chewy… my only gripe is that it was 2 small tentacles. VERY small portion for the price tag. Then we moved on to entrees. We had the Pork Chops and Seafood Paella. The Pork Chops were cooked to perfection in a great BBQ sauce. The Seafood Paella came with a lobster tail, muscles, shrimp and plenty of calamari. Entrée portions were pretty great. Then I was given a great hot towel to wipe my hands of the seafood. And we went on our merry way to have gelato. Great meal. Not sure I would be back and not sure if I would highly recommend it, but definitely a good experience if you’re in the area.

We had a very good dinner here — almost all of the food was tasty, service was good, atmosphere was a bit crowded and hectic. We ate: Mushroom soup — delicious! Came with a tasty little fritter Burrata mozzarella — creamy, delicious mozzarella/caprese type dish Filet mignon 3 ways — this was the one dud of the meal. The meat just wasn’t flavorful, and the toppers on each filet couldn’t save it. NY Steak — fantastic steak, super flavorful, seasoned and cooked perfectly. The one drawback was the tater tots it came with. They were so salty that they were inedible, and the truffle oil smell was so overpowering that it was almost nauseating. Skip the tots. Potato purée trio — awesome variety of mashed potato preparations. Very tasty. Made us forget about the nasty tater tots. All in all, a very good meal. We’d go back and would know what to order next time.

Food: We had the Espresso rubbed NY steak and Salmon. While the salmon was very nicely done, the steak was unremarkable. The lunch box dessert was very imaginative: home made«ding dongs» served in a real lunch box with a carton of milk. Very good. B+ Price: Dinner prices typical at $ 35 a plate. Wine selection was typical: a normally $ 20 bottle of wine will cost $ 80. B Atmosphere: Great restaurant for socializing. However, the cozy downstairs seating can be a bit crowded. It can get a little loud too. If you are looking for a quiet romantic evening, try somewhere else. A Service: The server was attentive and knowledgeable. The management was also attentive and made their rounds to make sure everyone was being looked after. A+ Parking: There is a parking structure directly behind the restaurant. A

We came here for lunch. It’s Laguna so expect very scarce parking. Watermarc is very small and you really have to look for it. It’s hidden in an alley of shops so either park in front with metered marking or park behind where a very anal Laguna beach police parking cop will watch you like a hawk. So don’t do anything that will upset him.(My peers and I got tickets for really, really stupid crap. Watermarc has a nice view of the main street and the servers seem very down to earth, not haughty at all. Service is fast. The lunch menu is about half the price of the dinner menu which is what we requested(dinner $ 30 to $ 40). We ordered some appetizers which consisted of mussels, bacon wrapped dates, herb crusted lamb chops(I could do without), and house flat bread(also not so great). Appetizers were ok. I ordered the filet cooked three ways and it was pretty good. It was around $ 32 and it consisted of three pieces of filet mignon that were obviously prepared three different ways. Cooked the difference ways as well? I couldn’t tell. That’s what I would suggest changing — cooking it in *obviously* three different ways… pan fried, baked, and possibly on the grill? Seer that so the three pieces are distinctly different. The three pieces were really good, not great. I would also suggest considering the eat-ability of these pieces. The toppings on each one were clever and tasty, but slicing into a piece of filet with crab or herb mix on top left me constantly scooping the toppings back on top as I took a bite. Overall I give 4 stars mainly because the food was, good, and the server was very good.

My old review was, what, 5 years ago? I still have not been for dinner, but I do head is frequently for weekend breakfast. The food is good, the windows open up onto PCH, and when it is warm out, they leave them open. The breakfast menu is small, but it has a good variety of stuff. Most things come with a side of tater tots, which is always a good way to get your morning starch on. The real star of the weekend morning menu is the $ 5 Bloody Mary. Be honest with yourself, this wouldn’t be the first time you pick a place to eat because of what they have to drink. Tater tots and quality libations. It is almost enough to get you out of bed in the AM.

I came here for dinner awhile ago but forgot to review it so I decided to check this place out again for dinner. Sunday evening at 6pm, the place was not busy at all. I made an opentable reservation just incase. We were led upstairs to a lovely exclusive table outside on the balcony overlooking the trees. We were both surprised and thrilled to get the best table in the restaurant! The bread was hot but overcooked and hard as a rock. The butter was really delicious though, cranberry butter? He ordered the Scottish Salmon which he really loved. I ordered the special of the night: 16 oz Ribeye Steak with creamed spinach. My ribeye was perfectly cooked, juicy, and simply amazing. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Worth every calorie! We were too full to have dessert. Service was excellent. I would definitely be back to try more dishes! Their appetizers looked interesting. Great place to get some drinks and appetizers or a nice lovely dinner.

I don’t often write review updates, but my recent return to the Watermarc bar for a few happy hour cocktails and appetizers has me inspired. Short and sweet: The food and cocktails were delightful. The burger and fries at half price(again, happy hour) are a must. Happy hour is offered 7 days a week, from 4 to 6pm. If planned correctly on the weekend, this is prime time to wrap up a day at the beach with some fine dining at a discount, or to start your date night off right with a few reasonably priced craft cocktails. However, the highlight during my visit was the service. Our bartender(s) just had that perfect mix of checking in on us just often enough without interrupting, willingness to give some detailed order suggestions, making sure that our water glasses were never empty, with just a dash of humor and charisma to keep us entertained. I’m really not usually that concerned about service either way to be honest, but I’ve talked about this experience more than once since. I’m sorry to say that I don’t remember either of our bartender’s names, but I’m sure you’ll be taken good care of regardless of who’s there. I haven’t had the opportunity to have dinner at Watermarc, but I can highly recommend drinks and appetizers at their bar(especially during happy hour!)!

I love this place. Been in for breakfast, lunch, HH, and dinner. Never had anything bad here! Since I’ve moved and am not as close to Laguna anymore, it had been a while since I’d been here. We recently went back on Halloween for dinner with our two dogs. Made our reservation on open table and asked to be sat on the patio with our fur babies. They were very accommodating and brought the dogs a water bowl. The pear martini is one of my favorite drinks. They also do a really good mule. We tried the seafood paella and the short rib for dinner this time. Both were really good. I highly recommend both entrees. Really though, you can’t go wrong here with anything on the menu. Everything is great! We will have to get back in sometime for happy hour again. It’s 7 days a week by the way :)
