My family and I loved this place. Who wouldn’t love sushi that comes to you on a conveyor belt? The service was great and the prices were cheap. We went twice on our trip to Maui. I wish they had one in northern California.

Came around 2:00pm. Not much food on the carousel and many options were out of stock so not much choices to eat. Service was mediocre. The girl helping us had no enthusiasm and too soft spoken for a waitress position.

For the past few years, Lahaina Genki’s decreased in customer service and food. They don’t or hardly ever say Irasshaimase and when they do, they say it wrong. I know because I took Japanese for 4 years. Food are often cold. Service is slow sometimes. It’s basically 50⁄50. Some days you get great servers and some days you get the worst servers everr! Lahaina Genkis just need a few fixing.

Right off he bat you can tell it isn’t fresh. It tasted like the sushi you would get off the grocery store. And the customer service isn’t great at all.

Their sushi is NASTY. Not fresh at all. You can tell it’s been on the fridge for a while. The fried squid and wings are alright. When they gave dip for the wings it was so small you couldn’t dip your wing in it. The food is cheap only because the servings are very small. The sushi come with like 2 – 4 rolls for each serving.

DONOTEATHERE!!! UNLESS you want to sit amongst dirty unbussed tables while waiting for food that will NEVER show up because your server completely didn’t even write it down on her pathetic piece of paper. But oh! She’s busy, talking with her one other coworker who also is disregarding her own customers and dirty tables. Never have been so disgusted with both food and service alike.

Good, inexpensive sushi. Casual dining in shopping center. Very friendly and helpful staff. We go here all the time and always get tasty sushi quickly off the revolving belt. Special orders take a little more time.

Yeah that is right another Sushi Restaurant on Maui… and NO I have not converted over to it… LOL!!! However I do like the novel rotating buffet line that goes to all of the tables. My wife had a dish that consisted of rice inside of a soft but sweet tofu shell. She also had some fried Tempura which I tried and really liked. I know this establishment gets some bad reviews and they probably deserve it based on the expertise of true sushi lovers… however my experience was okay all things considered. Eat, Drink, and be Merry my Friends!!!

Went there for an early dinner before shopping at The Outlet Mall. Service was definitely slow! Which surprised me because there was about 4 other parties there and it was around 5:00 pm. My husband ordered one of their specials(Ahi Trio) but they ended up making a ahi katsu bowl — the waitress brought it and said they made a mistake but yet still puts it in the table! Made us feel like we didn’t have a choice but to take it. Sushi was ok for«fast-food sushi». But my husband had a stomach ache for the rest of the night! And yes, like other Unilocalers — the employees were speaking in Filipino to each other a lot and standing around talking to each other. Definitely a turn off for me even though I’m Filipino myself. Will not be going back there again.

This was the first time I had ever been to a sushi bar. I ordered California rolls without the fish eggs. To my surprise the California rolls were very good. It was fresh and the price was right. I took it to go but if you stay you’re able to pick whatever you want off the menu or on a conveyor belt. On the conveyor belt they have different types of sushi going around and around. I’m not a big sushi fan but I do like California rolls and I would go back to get California rolls. They also had good customer service and everyone was smiling.

DONOTEATHERE! I love Genki back home in Seattle, it is always busy, it’s nothing fancy, but it’s fresh. Maui Genki was awful. The first salmon I took off the conveyor belt was hard, like seriously so dried out that it had the consistency of the Swedish fish candy after they’ve sat out for days. I ordered the salmon sashimi, garlic salmon, Hamachi and tempura vegetable. The veggies were good, the salmon was edible to say the least, the garlic salmon tasted more of butane than it did garlic or salmon, but the biggest disappointment was the hamachi… I NEVER spit food out but I literally could not eat it, I took one bite and spit it out in my napkin. I am NO sushi snob, but this was worse than the prepackaged stuff at the store(which I don’t care for either). Really sad that my lunch was so bad, I was really looking forward to some sushi today :( Didn’t even bother telling them about the hamachi, they were far over staffed for the two people dining, staff was watching videos on their cell phones and chatting loudly the whole time I was there, hospitality service in Maui is the worst I’ve ever had. The chef and server each brought me plates that the other table ordered, twice, which shows lack if attention to detail. The chef even started arguing with me that I did order the plate until the server over heard and shouted across the room that it belonged to the other table. Neither my water or tea was ever refilled. Awesome decorum! Looking forward to dining out again once I get home, until then my expectations here have been set very low.

Been to many genki sushi places on Oahu. First time been here on Maui. The sushi is the same and prices comparable to Oahu. What really gets me is the service. It sux. Not enough workers. Usually when you order the sushi comes out within 5 min. We waited for about 10 min. The sushi sat for about a minute on the counter waiting for the waitress to pick up. The turn off was when the two employees were communicating in Filipino in front of the customers. IMO it seems like they didn’t want customers to know what they were talking. I have no problem if they were doing it in the back but in front? I felt as if they were hiding something. Maybe it was the time of day 3pm but nevertheless service should be same anytime. 3*** food 1* service

I was craving sushi, so I decided to give this place a try. The 3 star rating had me a little wary, but all the rolls and sushi I tried was on point. The seared garlic salmon sushi was my favorite… smoky since they torch the top of the salmon, so it’s seared on top with garlic mayo. They may overdue it with the mayo a little bit, but it was delicious creamy bite. If you are wary of sushi going around on a belt, have no fear, you can order the sushi made on the spot. They did not have too many offerings on the belt that we wanted, so we just ordered off the menu. It’s not the cheapest fast sushi place, but the rolls were made right and the sushi rice had the right consistency.

We decided we wanted sushi and wanted to make sure we didn’t go to a tourist area. This was in a shopping center and only 20 min walk from the La Haina beach area. We really liked the rotating buffet line that goes by each table because it reminded us of many places we see in Japanese food documentaries.(I’m one of those people that watches those shows mindlessly) Staff was friendly and answered our questions when we couldn’t guess the ingredients to new rollls. Food quality: it was okay, rolls were typical ones that you would find in a local sushi place. The Unagi was not very good. It was picked off and the rest of the roll was eaten. We would return only for the convenience of the food.

Came here last week for a quick«snack» while the family and I were shopping. A group of 6 of us came in, starving and our intention was to have just a small bite to hold us over for dinner. It’s not the fanciest place, but the taste and quality was on point! After about 20 plates of sushi we left completely full and satisfied. We almost cleared out the entire revolving boat area and proceeded to order more sushi. We didn’t have to wait long for the food we ordered, they made it fresh and quick. Everything we got was so tasty! We have all been craving it since we have come back home.

It’s been years since I’ve been to this Lahaina location. I’ve been avoiding it because of the countless bad experiences that I had each time I would dine here. I heard there is new management since they first opened and wanted to give this location an other shot. I was hesitant at first because I was on my lunch break so I was worried about getting slow service and leaving disappointed once again. However, this was not the case today. I’m so glad that I decided to enjoy my break at Genki Sushi. The front of the house supervisor, Shiloh was excellent! She was friendly, prompt, and remembered all her regulars that came in. The service I received today was the exact opposite from previous experiences. The food came out fast and fresh. I tried an awesome special called the«Big Mama Roll» which is a ebi tempura roll with seared salmon on it, glazed with special sauces and topped off with cruchy deep fried onions. Hit the spot! This is my new favorite roll from Genki Sushi. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 was because I saw one of the servers pop in something in her mouth before she came out to bring my food. She was still chewing her food when she dropped off my food.(Not very professional.) This was the same server who forgot my drink order. Two parties that sat downt after me got their drinks before me, then when she saw me, she remembered. But overall, I had a very pleasant experience and left with a smile on my face and a happy stomach. I will definitely be back. This is a perfect«fast food» sushi restaurant if you’re just interested in getting something quick to eat at a reasonable price. Tips: Ask for their specials when ordering. If you’re local, they don’t have Kamaaina discounts, but they do offer a frequent customer stamp card upon request. No reservations required. Always order your food for guaranteed freshness.

I agree with most reviews that this place is OK — a fast and somewhat satisfying place to get sushi. I feel like I expected the food to taste as it did because to me, this is more of a «fast food» sushi place. The thing that drew us in was that the sushi rides around a conveyor belt, and you can grab any dish you want right off! Cool concept! We always end up ordering most of our sushi and plates though because we aren’t sure how long they’ve been riding around on the belt. For the sushi, it wasn’t horrible! It just wasn’t as amazing as all of the other sushi places I’ve been to(which is tons because I’m a crazy sushi foodie). The service is fast, they’re nice, and the sushi comes fast(whether you grab on the conveyor belt or order). The prices are low compared to what sushi costs, so I feel like you get what you paid for! I think this is a good sushi place if you want sushi fast and more cheap. I didn’t mind it!

An okay sushi spot.(my cousin would disagree. his nickname for it is janky sushi lol) I like the idea of being able to pick items as you choose while they pass before you, but I also like the idea of always having fresh sushi. So if you go to Genki and want fresh sushi, make sure you order it from the menu even though the same item might be available to grab. One dish that I tried that was BOMB was the fried soft-shell crab served whole. If i go back to Genki, best believe I will be getting this again. Nothing else really stood out– like I said, it was okay. At the end of our meal I was wondering how they kept track of the items that we grabbed. well, the plates are color-coded according to price… duh… so simple. I felt like an idiot.

Reading many of the reviews and I just have to laugh. Some people are expecting the sushi ‘presentation’ to be better or they are horrified over the fact that there is, Oh My God, a conveyor that the sushi rides on… This would be like complaining about your Quarter Pounder with cheese not having the pickle placed properly among your even amounts of ketchup and mustard. I mean, this is the equivalent of the fast food of sushi so, let’s get over it, people! For what it is, it is an OK restaurant to catch a quick bite of sushi. Here are some FUNFACTS of our visit here; 1. Onion Salmon Nigiri: we watched the same plate pass us for at least 15 minutes and, guess what, it was removed and replaced with a new one. 2. Spicy Tuna: the sushi and the roll were actually quite good. 3. Flies(and other unwanted guests): we did not experience any creepy crawlers or flies for the entire 30 minutes that we were here . 4. Service: it was fairly quick. & efficient but, really, how much do you really need when 80% of what you want is passing by you at your table. And, the reason that I say it was ‘fairly’ quick is that I am an avid green tea drinker and their cups are on the small side so I had to keep asking for refills. No big deal, we’re on Maui! 5. Negitoro: was pretty good and it surpassed my expectations. This coming from a guy that has had numerous sushi joints try and pass off regular tuna as Toro so, yes, I was happy to see that they actually served the real thing! 6. Parking: was a breeze as the parking lot is next to a grocery store so ample parking spaces are available. 7. Lunch: came at 2:30pm and I am going to surmise that this is a good time to come here. Plenty of seating and the sushi was still pretty fresh. I could tell due to the temperature of the sushi– it was cool in my mouth, telling me that it had not been outside long. Always a good indicator of where your sushi has recently come from. I will visit here again, before leaving Maui, so I will add more, as I see fit. $ 42.50 for 2 adults who had an early breakfast and, now, a late lunch. FORTHERECORD– since we cannot give ½ stars here, I am giving a 4 Star rating as I cannot give a 3.5 Star rating. But, for what this restaurant is, it was far from being a disappointing experience and I will be back. Thank you for listening!

Save yourself sometime looking at the menu and just go for the more pricier rolls they’re more worth it and taste better. If Jack in the Box and Sushi gave birth then Genki is its child. I for one have never seen such dry and sad looking sushi on the conveyor belt. What is the pt of having a rotating sushi thing if the rolls look melted and ready for the flys. They also had strange drinks on the conveyor belt like Gatorade or drinks I could get at 7 – 11 Impression: 2 Food:3 the rolls that we specially ordered were ok… edible but we were scared. Service:2 * neg. points because u have to go to other side side of this awkwardly shaped rectangular restaurant to pay yourself. 2.5 overall
