Since we knew we wouldn’t get a chance to go back to Sheldon’s Migrant this year, I had to check out the place that he gets his grindz. Ilocandia is a small Filipino market in Lahaina that has all the necessities you need if you want to make your own Filipino food and also a small hot counter for premade food to go. Since we were up so early for breakfast at 808 Grindz in Lahaina, we just walked across the street and got there nice and early before the lechon sold out. Similar to Chinese roast pig, lechon is deep fried pork belly with skin so crisp when fresh like chicharon and you would soon see why it is so addictive.

Ilocondia is a small Filipino Store that sells vegetables, canned items, packaged items, and they have a few hot entrees to go. I personally love the chicharones they will cut it up for you with rice, and you got all the condiments, shoyu, vinegar, patis, just simple but done right. My doctor wants me to lay off of the pork, but when ever I go there, that deep friend pork calls out to me, «Ron eat me buddy!» and I’m like…“No!” and the pork is like, «Come on. give in don’t hold back you know you want me!» And then I commit foodie sin.

The best«Chicharon», Philippino roast pig. Our host from Calif raved how Chicaron was better than Chinese roast pig from San Francisco Chinatown. She found Ilocandi’s. The owner saved us 3 lbs for a Saturday pm pickup. It is the best roast pork ! ! Not fatty, crispy and so good. Owner was so nice, she made a tomato onion condiment for us.

Love this little Filipino«hole in the wall.» Got the Pork Adobo from the hot line. Was yummy. They also have fresh vegetables and all kinds of Filipino goodies you would not find anyplace else. Glad I found it. Next time I will have their pork and onions which I have heard is fabulous.

My family and I have visited Maui many times and for some reason, I don’t know how this has gone undetected by my radar for groceries & yummy food. Maybe it was all the Mixed-Plate spots that are so yummy. The place is small, but really packed with the necessities you might need to cook Asian/Filipino food. Especially if you’re vacationing at a place with a kitchen and you forgot some key ingredient, visit them. They have patis, they have talong, they have coconut juice, etc. If you decide to get a quick bite to go of some good home cookin’, I recommend the Pinakbet, Dinuguan, & the Monggo. Try to get there sooner than later because when we went by lunchtime the food went fast. We’ll be visiting you guys again soon! Aloha! p. s. I’m can be a big time snob when it comes to Pinakbet & Dinuguan in all their variations… and I absolutely loved theirs!
