Pulled pork sandwich was cooked very well with a good flavor. The Mac and cheese is pretty incredible, definitely recommend getting this side. A good BBQ place on Maui that’s for sure. Would like more variety of sauces but a solid place for BBQ.

I wanted to like this place. The food was good overall. Be careful when ordering the brisket. Make sure you get the ‘lean’, our plate was too fatty. Otherwise the combo plates were good. One major issue I had, the place was really, really warm. I was sweating by the time I was done with dinner. Lastly, price was reasonable, a good surprise for this part of Maui.

Ate at Iron Imu minutes ago. So this review is as current as it gets. Food is really good. This is a place to eat MEAT; Barbecued meat, smoked to perfection, tender, savory, well seasoned. Did I tell you how juicy the meats are? We both had the combo plates and we both added the brisket. I think the sausages are special made, well seasoned, not too salty, peppery, mmmmmmm good! It’s located in a non-descript neighborhood, the sign isn’t that easy to see, so use your gps. My husband ordered cornbread, that was good but the cinnamon butter that comes with it is to die for. First off, it’s real butter flavored with real spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Yummy! There’s even a play room for the kiddies. Would I come back? Hell yeah! And before I forget, have the root beer float, the ice cream is very special, made in Maui, one taste and you can tell this is no typical ice cream. The people who run the place are very humble, friendly, very attentive to their guests. I think the best thing of the night was my husband reminding me we ordered root beer floats, so guess what? I got left overs with their tangy bbq sauce I can have later on tonight! Oh man, am I lucky, I get to have bbq twice in one night! Yeah I liked it and I highly recommend it, you won’t regret going there, that’s for sure.

We stayed on property at the Napili Shores and hit this restaurant one night because we were lazy and didn’t want to wander around with a 2 year old and an 11 month old in tow. As a lover of BBQ(I BBQ regularly, go to competitions, dream about BBQ, and have been accused of using BBQ phrases as terms of endearment for my wife and kids). Foodwise, the Texas style BBQ here was pretty good. Service was great and the staff was super friendly. Best part about this place… the bar area doubles as a kids playroom, complete with a ton of toys and chalkboard walls. As any parent on vacation can attest… it’s not really vacation when you spend all your time chasing the kids, especially when you’re trying to eat. Good food — combo bar/kids play area… godsend!!!

On vacation on Napili Bay, and burned out on the beach most of day. We were in no condition to get done up, and wanted to stay in and enjoy our view. I checked Unilocal, and found Iron Imu BBQ with high ratings, and less than a mile from my location. I walked up to the Napili Sunset, and found Iron Imu BBQ tucked to the left of the main lobby. Plenty of parking and easy access. The venue itself is large and airy… plenty of tables and room if you have young ones. I ordered(to go), smoked chicken(stuffed with chorizo… no jokes), half rack of ribs, mac and cheese, green beans, and the slaw. Please note, that I lived in TX for 14 yrs, and covered the majority of the southern states for work… so I have had my share of BBQ. Just a side note, I ordered a beer to enjoy, while I waited for my food. I didn’t get half way through my beer, and my order was complete. So quick and efficient. I must say, all of the food was perfect… the chicken was so tender, as were the ribs. All of the sides were spot on. I didn’t know what to expect, since they do promote some TX items in the restaurant(TXBBQ, or something different). The meats didn’t have a strong smokeyness to them, but they were tender and delicious. There are a couple of options with sauces, and they were both good. There was a «hot» sauce, but I found it more tangy… and not hot, but that is my taste buds. We were very happy with our experience, and this is definitely on the return list.

Stumbled upon this place while searching on Unilocal for a place to have a nice yummy dinner. Yet again, Unilocal has exceeded my expectations by guiding me to the right restaurant that serves up some of the most awesome BBQ ever! Iron Imu BBQ is located inside the Napili Shores Resort and is also a Catering Company as well. The inside of the restaurant is decent sized and has a good amount of tables for you to sit and enjoy your meal, although it is not that bright inside. When you walk in, you walk straight to the menu, which is written on the chalkboard. They open for dinner only, starting from 5pm-8:30pm or til 8 if they sell out! The food is probably one of the best BBQ Meats I’ve tasted, everything is so yummy. It’s all about the BBQ’ed meats, and not much about the sides, those are mediocre. Get the Iron Imu Combo, that’s the best deal here. You get ribs, chicken, pulled pork, 3 sides and then for $ 3 more you can get brisket too. I recommend getting the brisket too, because it’s really good. The Meats here are smoked to perfection, they are so juicy, moist and very flavorful. This is a husband and wife business, where the husband gets in at 3 in the morning to start marinating and preparing the meats and the wife does the sides. You can tell this place is good because not only am I giving them a 5, but we went twice within one week! Guess what, even the friendly lady that takes the orders as well as Matt, remembers that we’ve been here before. The customer service here is great too, they are all very friendly and welcoming. The price point is on point for what you get, you must come here if you are in the area!!! Stay connected, like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter @IronImuBBQ. This place is just that delicious, everything is so yummy!!! :)

Iron Imu did such an amazing job on my wedding! I walked in to the restaurant to talk to the owners while on a planning trip and had an impromptu tasting — all the food was excellent! Fast forward to the wedding — everyone raved about the food and the catering BBQ trailer that they use to cook the food onsite was so professional and nice looking and added a fun element to the wedding. Food was great, pricing was great, service was great! I would highly recommend Iron Imu.

My fav BBQ place is in Phoenix, AZ(little miss bbq). But I have to say this is a surprising close second. I haven’t actually ever had BBQ from another place that even came close(I’m sure if I went to Texas I’d find some, but I never venture down there). The location is super cute, in a seemingly older hotel in Napali(really close to Kapalua). The space is fairly large and has the old Hawaiian charm one would expect from an older establishment. They also have funky cowboy hat lighting and some nice BBQ style décor without it transporting you out of the island. The brisket is good. The brisket is actually very good. I like the smokey flavour and the moistness. The BBQ sauce is alright too, not the best, the spicy sauce is not spicy at all but I find I feel that way about most things. Maybe it’s me. I also tried some ribs which were very good and fall off the bone tender. Although someone else in my party claimed she liked them cooked a little more, I didn’t eat enough to notice if they were underdone. The sides are lacking, hence the star taken off. The greens are a bit soggy and bitter and the mac and cheese is a little sad. Cornbread is pretty decent though! 9⁄10 will return.

Iron Imu catered my wedding, and I everyone was beyond pleased! Kristen and Rob(the owners) were so easy to work with, helpful, and accommodating. I had my wedding at Oluwalu Plantation House, and the Iron Imu truck pulled right up and served the party. This was much better than any«wedding food»! The food is delicious, presentation was far from janky, and the price was great! I couldn’t of had a better experience.

Surprisingly impressive! The beef brisket was so tender you could eat it without a knife. The smoked chicken was super juicy and favor full. Mac and cheese was awesome. Baked beans and green beans were just ok, but we were so impressed with the meat we didn’t care. Finished with lilikoi cheesecake and it was AWESOME. Tangy and sweet and tasted fresh. This place feels like it’s in the middle of no where and we often felt we were going the wrong way, but the drive over was worth it! Friendly staff, great value, and great bbq. Amazing find!

Good bbq in a place where I thought it was going to be just okay so I was pleasantly surprised. The Iron Imu combo can feed about two people comfortably. I enjoyed all the meats on the platter, my favorite surprisingly being the sausage, though the pulled pork, chicken, and ribs were quite good as well. I love how you can get the bbq sauces from the bar after you order so that the ribs aren’t slathered completely though the hot sauce was not hot ATALL! If it didn’t say hot sauce, I would’ve thought it was just regular no heat sauce. The reason for the 4 is that the sides were just alright — the mac and cheese was not anything special, the cornbread was dry, and the baked green beans were much too watery. To find the restaurant: enter through the hotel lobby and make a left.

We exactly found this wonderful Resturant while exploring Maui. This bbq was the best we had from Oahu and Maui, he got the tri meat special and I had the 1⁄3 ribs and 1⁄3 chicken the hot bbq sauce was perfect of cause so was the meal!

When it comes to BBQ I am as finicky as it gets. I don’t go to chain restaurants for BBQ, and to be honest I would rather just make it myself. That being said I read all of the amazing reviews for Iron IMU and decided to check it out since we were staying so close to this place. Upon entering the first thing I noticed was a play area that other Unilocalers referenced, my son dashed over there and it was a struggle to get him to leave! It’s a great distraction, and when I was chatting with the staff, it was created in that area because they didn’t want to have a bar, I thought that was an amazing idea and something other restaurants should consider! Plenty of toys, just make sure to wash your child’s hands when done! Oh yeah the food lol— tried the ribs, brisket and chicken, and I was very very impressed. You could see the smoke lines in the ribs and brisket, and the ribs were cooked perfectly, tore off when I took a bite. The brisket was balanced perfectly, just a little fat to give it flavor, with the meat being super super tender! What made this place a 5 star instead of a 4 star was the cook came out and gave my wife a lei(leis aren’t cheap) to wear simply because we told them about how we heard some good things about them on Unilocal.Just a first class staff, and with solid BBQ. Expect to spend $ 25 per person, and the portion sizes are solid. Worth the trip if you are in the area! Thanks.

Overrated place. They were out of lots things from the menu We drove all the way to Napili after reading the reviews and they were out of almost everything I do not know why do they have such good reviews. This is the first time I think Unilocal is wrong overrated First clue the place was empty. should have seen no people only just 2 couples inside Tou have to enter the place through the lobby of a hotel The ambiance is nice tax as style place The menu is written on a board on the wall When we start to order, the cashier told us they are out of brisket. Texas BBQ place out of brisketand several sides Settled for smoke chicken corn bread and beans The corn bread felt like corn bread out of a pre mix box. Chicken was unseasoned and raw. When I mentioned it. They said, it is cooked looks raw because is smoked chicken Like I cannot taste raw chicken. We just left. Guess no use to complain Seems this place is going downhill I would stay away

Meat, meat, meat! It’s so hard to find good bbq places. Figures I’d be able to find a place thousands of miles away from home. Found this place on Unilocal and was impressed by the star rating. Plus, my boyfriend wanted meat so off we went. The place is tucked away in a resort like area. The place wasn’t very crowded when we got there close to 6pm. We ordered our food and grabbed a table. The food arrived surprisingly fast, but it was warm and delicious! I ordered the iron imu combo with brisket for $ 3 extra, and the meal comes with 3 sides. I went with the corn bread, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. The sides weren’t terribly amazing, but I did like the Mac and cheese. What truly shined was the meat. The meat was cooked to perfection. My order had pulled pork, chicken, sausage, ribs, and brisket. My favorites were the brisket and the ribs, but everything was amazing. Prices are very affordable for what you get, and are comparable to what I would pay for bbq back home. Service was very friendly. Female patrons are gifted flower clips, which are very cute and fresh smelling. The restaurant staff was very accommodating of our party, which had a 4 month old baby. If you need drink refills, you can go up to the side of the counter where you pay and they will help you out. We all left the restaurant full and happy. Once again, Unilocal research provided a terrific place.

I’ve been staying up in Napili for many years and have always driven past Iron Imu, after reading the reviews online I decided to check it out for myself. The pork ribs were excellent, tender, juicy and the meat slid right off. The pulled pork was moist and full of flavor, the sauces really complimented the meats. My only comments would be for them to update the website and take off the salad and fruit sides or continue to offer them. I would have also liked to seen a burger on the menu and a good former hot dog but I’m assuming everything is precooked. If you’re looking for some great BBQ food, Iron IMu is definitely worth a visit.

Iron Imu BBQ begun as a mobile catering service, but it is now a casual restaurant that screams BBQ upon entry. It’s located inside the Napili Shores Resort adjacent to the lobby. The inside is simple and extensively utilizes wood throughout like an old tavern. As you walk in look to your left, the menu is on the wall chalkboard; once you decide proceed a bit further to the small ordering window. A friendly lady greeted and helped me decide on my choices. Once the food is ready they will call for your name and deliver the food to the table. They serve delicious southern Texas style BBQ, specializing in tender smoked meats and home country sides just like from grandmas kitchen. It’s definitely not good for you but great for the palate. I ordered half rack of ribs and half a pound of beef brisket, mix of lien and moist. The sought for pink ring is extremely vibrant on both the ribs and brisket, with both being dry rubbed and oh so tender and flavorful. The low temperature and slow smoke is without doubt the way these were prepared. There are two BBQ sauces available, sweet and spicy, but totally unnecessary. We also had the Bacon BBQ greens and Grandpas Mac & Cheese. I loved the Mac & Cheese, but wasn’t too thrilled about the greens, as they were very mushy but with big flavor. I would have never guessed I would be having one of my best BBQ dinners on the island Maui. The staff was equally splendid and my wife was presented with a beautiful hand made Hawaiian lei, because she was familiar with the Random Acts of Aloha.

If you’ve been to the Gazebo getting to this place is easy. It’s not next to the Gazebo like some reviewers indicated here. It’s inside the hotel in the property. Duh! The Gazebo is not is by the pool. It is legit Texas style BBQ. Dry rub that’s just very flavorful. Meat so tender. It doesn’t fall off. It’s ready to fall off when you are attacking it! :) Huge place. When you walk in order at the little window. But first look to your left as you walk in. The menu is on the wall. Find your own spot. Have a sit and wait. They call out your name and bring the food to you. It doesn’t take long. The owner Rob is a cool guy. The night we were there I was the recipient of the Random Acts of Aloha. A leigh of fresh awesome smelling flowers. It was very cool! I tried their ribs with three sides. Love my ribs! Sauce on the side not on the BBQ. The sides that I personally would get again is the mac n cheese and the corn bread. It’s a huge place. Décor is largely influenced by Texas itself. A sprinkle of Texas memorabilia noted like«Don’t Mess with Texas» on the wall. The Iron Imu way of cooking is on the ground. It’s a tradition in Hawaii. Dug in the ground where the meat is slow cooked to tender perfection. To get that great smoke ring of bold flavor. I am a fan!

Neat to find southern style BBQ on Maui. Husband was craving BBQ and found this place because it’s right next to The Gazebo and their smoker trailer is parked right out front. Talking with the owner, they started catering 5 years ago and opened the restaurant 2 years ago. The place is big… totally western style décor, with pineapple carved wood chairs at the tables. Service was super nice, casual, and friendly. There’s a condiment table for ghost chili spicy BBQ sauce or guava sweetened sweet BBQ sauce, both were good. My kids loved the big play area full of books, toys, and wall to wall chalk boards. I was really hoping to love the food. We ordered the ¼ chicken tray, ½ rib tray, ½lb brisket add on, & green salad. Each tray comes with 3 sides so we did mac & cheese, pepper slaw, and corn bread. The chicken and ribs were on the dry side… part of our ribs were so overcooked that we couldn’t eat it. We did white meat chicken, so maybe we’ll do the dark in the future. The mac & cheese was good. I overheard the owner saying it was her grandmother’s recipe that they tweaked. It wasn’t under seasoned like some say. The slaw was okay, as were the beans and salad. Our cornbread was a little bit dry, but the cinnamon butter helped. However, if you order anything, do the brisket. We really should’ve ordered pounds and pounds of that and called it a day. You can have it either«dry» or «moist» — which I was told means either lean or fat. Do the fat. It’s sooooo delicious… falls apart, super flavorful, finger licking delicious. That was he best part of our last meal of this trip.
