Local Boys is a treasure that completely changed my view of Hawaiian shaved ice. I have always preferred ice cream over any other frozen treat. To me, shaved ice has always been frozen water covered in artificial coloring. As God would have it, my children love ice. Local Boys offers the best of both worlds with a free scoop of ice cream at the bottom and free Kauai cream on top. Both additions make Local Boys a place where shaved ice and ice cream lovers can unite and enjoy dessert together.

Courteous service, great selection and amazing shaved ice. Some witty punch lines and the color coded flavors make you imagine how the end result would be.

Amazing shaved ice paired with great service and a smile. I love that they give you a free scoop of ice cream(of your choice) at the bottom and the sweet cream on top. My sister and I had the medium size(which was humongous) with tiger’s blood, passion fruit and horchata with kona mud pie ice cream. It was pretry cheap at $ 5.50 for medium and $ 10 for large. We took it to the Banyan Tree park to eat. After gobbling it up, I wanted to get another! It was so delicious that we went to the Kihei location too the next day!

Yummy shave ice with a full menu of flavors. The girl at the shop was so sweet to everyone in line. You can choose 3 flavors of syrup, ice cream on the bottom, Kauai cream on top(probably condensed milk), and toppings if you ask(mochi, azuki beans, etc). And as others mentioned, it’s all included in the price. I got a tiger’s blood/guava/Li hing ice with coconut ice cream, Kauai cream and mochi. Medium size cost $ 5.5. We stopped by Ululani’s later on our stroll and the same shave ice would have cost $ 7.75 there since they charge extra for ice cream and mochi. Will definitely return! We’ll probably check out the Kihei location before our visit to Maui is over.

Damn good shave ice. Switch out the wooden spoons for plastic to get up to 5 stars. Not sure why but it detracted from the taste of the excellent shave ice! What I like here over the other place down the street: 1. Coarser ice, seems to melt slower. 2. Just the right amount of syrup. 3. A straw to slurp up the juice at the bottom. And the jury is out about the 3 flavor application technique. The stripe method here vs the 1⁄3 pie technique down the street both have their merits.

MmmMmMMM! This place is my favorite for shaved ice. The service is really great. They have more flavors. They provide ice cream and the white cap which is already built into the price. It’s a great deal! My favorite is the shark’s blood. Also recently tried their peanut butter which was amazingly good too. Can’t go wrong with local boys!

This place makes really good shave ice. I came here 3 times on this trip to Maui. Small little shop along front st in lahaina. If you don’t want shave ice you can have just ice cream, which I did twice. 3.50 for a small, 550 for med, and 10 dollars for a large. You can get whatever you want on your shave ice from ice cream to azuki beans for no extra charge, it’s all included in the price. I thought it was a great deal. Don’t forget to tip the local girl making it for you.

My wife loves this place. The lady behind the counter recommended a flavor combination for her; before she finished, she decided we should go back the next day for another one– so we did. She raved so much about her first one I had to see what the hype was about, and I agree, it’s great! I’m pretty sure we’re stopping in again on our way to the airport.

This place was my favorite shave ice spot I visited. Super flavorful and creamy, lots of good choices. Portion size was great too. It’s hard to go wrong coming in here on a gorgeous day. Service was a bit strange since a past employee came in while we were there and kind of shit talked management with the person who was currently working.

I had shave ice at 3 different places while visiting Hawaii and this place was by far the best! We had mango strawberry and pineapple flavor with mango ice cream on the bottom and cream on top. The quality and texture of the ice was very good and the ice cream was creamy and delicious! Definitely stop here for your shaved ice in Maui!

On a sunny days it’s a great place to stop by and get yourself a refreshing shave ice. It’s located near the Banyan tree and after you get your tasty shave ice, walk across the street and enjoy the beauty of the Banyan tree. Don’t be afraid to try flavors you have never tried before. You’ll be surprised on what new flavors will become your new favorites. Make sure you get ice cream in your shave ice.

Delicious and refreshing! The perfect island dessert! And, growing up eating shaved ice as a kid? I’m so glad I tried it the way is eaten here in Hawaii: with ice cream! My choice was the«yellow snow.» The only time yellow snow is acceptable!

So good! Eat it fast though or it will melt and be super messy. The girl at the shop was super sweet and friendly :)

Try the Haupia ice cream… Sooooo good! They have more than one location and my understanding is that this isn’t the original one. We were in Maui for a week staying in Kihei, and we’re driving through Lahaina when we saw this place, it was so good and the girl there was so friendly with us that we needed up coming back another 3 times during our weeklong stay!

Almost as good as Ululani and certainly better shaved ice than I ever had outside of Hawaii. Came on a weekend afternoon and there was a long line with only one person working there so it took awhile. There’s limited seating inside the store so you might have to eat outside. Ordered the big baby size Local Girl(Tiger’s Blood, Li Hing Mui, and Blue Vanilla) which is a large(~$ 6). Very flavorful! I like that it comes with free toppings and a scoop of ice cream on the bottom. I recommend the haupia ice cream! And make sure to add the free cream on top. I tried the Li Hing Mui powder since they have a shaker of it on the counter you can add yourself but not a fan of that — the powder was a little too salty for me. The store also sells other little goods. Bottled water is $ 2. We got a small bag of coconut candy for $ 6 based on a recommendation from a local. That stuff is so addicting! I recommend checking out this place!

To be fair, I haven’t exactly hit up any other shaved ice joints in Maui but what I know is that I have NEVER experienced shaved ice and ice cream together. I don’t know if that’s common in Maui or unique to Local Boys but holy crap it’s delicious. After a hot morning of surfing and being at the beach, my husband and I stopped in at Local Boys to cool off. Service was super friendly and we sampled some ice cream flavors before getting a medium shaved ice(which is gigantic and plenty for 2 people). Less than $ 5 got us a scoop of coconut pineapple ice cream covered in a mound of shaved ice and topped with a dollop of their homemade cream that had bits of coconut inside. We chose the local girl combo which was blue vanilla syrup, tiger’s blood(cherry coconut), and one other flavor all on the ice. They’re not stingy with the flavoring either. Local Boys is where you want to go on a hot day when in need of a cooling down.
