This place sucks! Is it amateur night because the dancers are all uncoordinated, like watching an elementary school play The food is equally as bad as the show and don’t forget the sugar filled drinks to cover the horrible cheap well liquor. If the show doesn’t give you a headache the drinks will!

Great Luau with such beautiful and handsome dancers. Food was good. Be prepared for occasional rain and wind. The tables don’t have canopies so you either wear a poncho that they offer(free), sit in rain, or ask for a raincheck for another night. For the price you pay they really should have canopies. Don’t recommend taking kids 5 and under if weather does get crazy.

Good luau although we have never been to one. The New Zealand and Samoan dances were our favorite. Food decent – hey, it’s a BUFFET!!! Lower your expectations. Pig was quite tasty though. Line moved quickly. We didn’t have vip status but I don’t think it is worth the extra $ 25 pp. We paid next to nothing for our tix as we went to a Wyndham presentation a few hours before so the experience was worth the cost for us:)

This Luau was a last minute decision and we booked it online. There was a «standard» and«VIP» pass choice and for the small amount of money we chose the VIP. The seats we had were perfect which was front row with a great view. There are stages on the west side and south sides and the tables are setup so that you face either east or west. We faced west so we never had any issue seeing all the action. The check in, waiters, barkeep and general staff couldn’t be more friendly. There are also some vendors setup as you walk in with hand made crafts and jewelry made of whale bones, shark teeth and various stones. We couldn’t help but not buy a bracelet for the great price. The food is buffet style and they had 6 lines that move pretty quick. Chicken, pulled pork, fish and lots of sides were the main courses. There are also plenty of kids foods such as hot dogs and chicken nuggets. I failed to mention that the event is held 40 feet from the ocean shore and the views and picture opportunities are amazing as the sun goes down. This was a lifetime experience you won’t want to miss.

The most fun Luau with the best food at the best price. If you’ve never been to a Luau before, or if you’ve never been here, it’s really the one to go to. Some other Luaus don’t have fire dancers. Royal Lahaina has the most fire dancers. They have some of the best Lomi salmon on the island; their Kalua pork is top notch, and their other dishes like the noodles, and shoyu chicken, and pepper beef are mouth watering goodness that you’re glad to have unlimited portions of. Did I mention they have a kids buffet with some of the best home made chicken nuggets I ever had in my life. The show is great too, If your eyes can focus after all the amazing food…

Pros: VIP upgrade. Definitely worth it, especially with kids, who will be able to see the fire dancers from much closer and get first crack at the buffet. Cons: The food can be a little on the mundane side, but personally I think it’s all in what you pick. I liked everything I got just fine. The show itself is excellent. The dancers really take pride in what they’re doing, and they make a genuine, informed effort to educate about Hawaiian and Polynesian culture. There are parts of the show(«yell out your age» or «tell us if you’re having a birthday» blah blah) that I could do without, but hey. .. it’s Hawaii. .. hang loose and have another Mai-Tai.

I’ve been to a few luaus on Maui over the years. This one was so horrible that I’d never go back to give them a second chance! Our party of 6(aged 11 months to 80 years old) started out in a huge sea of people gathering from the hotel parking lot. We waited in line for a long time, so that we could eat dismal, cold cafeteria food and watch a poorly-directed stage show of Pacific Asian culture. We purchased VIP tickets, but we found ourselves in the middle of a huge seating area, far, far away from any of the stages. The disjointed show started with a reveal of a «freshly cooked» pig being hauled off stage by two dudes… and yet there was no pork on the menu. Was that a plastic pig? I think it must have been. To make things even less bearable, the drinks were weak, warm & flavorless. In the 12 – 24 hours that followed, all 6 of us developed vomiting and diarrhea. Three days later, we’re still sick. Two of our group actually had to go to the Emergency Room, where the doctor did MRI’s & Ebola tests. Thankfully, no Ebola! Probably just Norovirus… Worst luau ever!

We heard about this place through a recommendation of a fellow plane rider into Maui. She mentioned that this is the Lu’au all locals go to. We opted for the VIP upgrade to sit closer to the stage and not have to wait in line. There are a lot of other Unilocal reviewers on here that said it wasn’t worth the upgrade, but we felt like for $ 25 more a person, it was well worth not having to stand in the long line to get in. The fact that we were so close to the stage was fantastic. No one was in our way when we were taking photos and we got to the see the faces of the dancers and they actually posed for us as well during the show. For the open bar, I would say that the drinks were really fruity to begin with, but got progressively stronger throughout the night — very inconsistent. There was a decent variety of drinks we wanted to try, but there was also a man that kept coming by with drinks and would give you the same drink over and over again without asking if you wanted to try something different. He was so ninja about coming and going that we were left with no other choice except for to waste it or drink it. The opening pig ceremony(can’t remember what this process is called) was very anti-climatic. They unearthed a pig that was cooking for the past 8 hours and threw some jokes around and that was about it. When the pig was being showcased, the buffet food was already set out so it’s definitely not the same pig. Only for show. As for the food, the only thing worth mentioning in my opinion was the pulled pork. It was perfectly tender, succulent, and flavorful. All the other things were your standard buffet items. They were there just to fill you up and didn’t leave an impression. The dessert was also very boring. The show however was fantastic. They went through different dance styles of the ethnic groups in Hawaii and gave a brief history of each group in a story-like fashion. There was some light singing, subtle hints of humor, and awesome fire dancing at the end. In fact, the fire dancing is what made the show for us. It was decently long, had a lot of variety and difficulty. We definitely applaud their skills in handling such dangerous poles of fire while being so entertaining at the same time. 3 stars in my book because of the underwhelming food.

I love love loveeeee this place! Definitely worth it! I don’t know if it’s that worth it to get the VIP thing but you get the lei and better seating, but honestly I think every seat was good. And plenty of food so you don’t have to worry… The food was ok, I honestly can’t say it was that great. Which is why they got one less star. But I think you pay for the overall experience. It’s like going to a show. The fire dance and hula dance was sooooooo good!!! The host was hilarious and everyone was really nice and accommodating. Drinks weren’t too bad either. I definitely recommend this place! Had such a good time. And the fire dance really blew my mind! Better than america’s got talent!

I attended the Royal Lahaina Luau on Monday June 8th. This was not my first Luau, but it was the first on Maui as the other time I went it was on the island of Oahu. I’m trying to be neutral on my feelings about Luaus, because well, they are for tourists. Pros: all you can drink, decent food, variety of island dances and staff was organized and nice. The drinks did have more juice/mixers than alcohol, but it’s unlimited and I did leave with a nice buzz. The food variety was nice, diverse and different. From the time we arrived staff directed us to where we needed to be and they seemed to have their stuff together. Don’t listen to what people say, seats are already assigned. The fire dance was my favorite! I wished they touched more on the history of the island of Hawaii though. Cons: I thought the location would have been closer to the beach, but it was actually blocked off. There were only 2 bathroom stalls, for all the people there, the lines were long. Oh and make sure you have cash, they charge $ 5 for parking.

I’m going to make this short and sweet. The show is amazing but the food sucks. The drinks were good and I liked that they came around to tables with them so you didn’t have to get up and go to the bar. But when I say the food sucks; I mean it. We won’t be back. Not worth the $ 200 for 2 of us.

On my honeymoon, one of my MUST Do’s in visiting Hawaii for my very first time was to go to a Luau. We checked a couple other options first but everything was booked. Royal Lahaina was cheaper and had availability so we went on our last night. After paying $ 5 to park, we waited in line outside the Luau for about 20 minutes. The line is slow moving as they have each party take a photo upon entering. I noticed after the picture that people who pay the VIP price get a lei where the people who don’t get a seashell necklace. This was a disappointment. After you’re given your seat assignment, you can wait in line to receive an alcoholic or non alcoholic beverage. I started with a Mai Tai. It was delicious. They have an array of cocktails– I stuck with the Maui Sunset for the remainder of the night. Unlimited cocktails = awesome! We were seated and ate dinner about 30 minutes later. The pork was definitely not from the same pig we saw in the ceremony but still tasty. We were one of the last groups to be called to the buffet but there was PLENTY of food and could re-visit if needed. Everything we ate was great. There was also a kid buffet of mac and cheese, hotdogs and chicken nuggets. Desserts were also tasty. BUT, the BEST part of this Luau is the show! The dancers are very entertaining and the MC was awesome! What a perfect way to spend a beautiful evening along the ocean in Maui. For a less expensive Luau in Maui, I would check this place out.
