The whole place is gluten free and they have a lot of different choices for pastries here. We liked our cinnamon roll and cheesecake. They don’t taste like cinnamon rolls or cheesecake but they still taste good. The desserts look and sound better than they taste but its still good if you come with the expectation that its hard to make gluten free food taste like our typical unhealthy food.

I went to the bar here and it was a really awful experience. The bar tender acted like he didn’t care, it took forever for him to take our orders, and never even smiled at us or asked how we were doing. The drinks he made were terrible, pretty much undrinkable. There were also two super drunk people there who were yelling and throwing things. Needless to say we did not stay long.

There is a reason the reviews are so low for this place. The service is terrible and the food followed suit. We sat at our table for 2 hours waiting for food. The manager and the waitress continued to stop at our table with apology after apology and excuse after excuse. Find food elsewhere.

This place needs some love. I was pretty convinced after looking at its current Unilocal score(2.5 stars on 20+ reviews) that I was not going to go here. 2.5? Yikes. That’s like 2. Which is like 1. Which is like dysentery. But I was half-drunk after an afternoon at Fleetwoods on Front Street and the idea of more drinks sounded, well, good. Sugar House was dead empty so we decided to see how bad it really could be. It was around 3pm on a Saturday. The service was good. Not just good, actually — really good. Fast, attentive, accurate. The drinks? Reasonably priced(especially during happy hour). The selection — I was impressed. They had a few good rums. I can always get behind a bar with a few good rums. Yeah, the french fries were not on the menu so I can’t complain that they kind of looked and tasted exactly like McDonald’s. In fact, I wouldn’t complain — that’s just what my lady wanted. I had like two of them. I don’t know what it would be like for dinner here but I wasn’t unhappy with my experience at all. Don’t fear the rating… give it a shot! And if it is bad, you have yourself to blame. I’m just a guy writing a review. You have free will. You walked in and gave them your money. Who cares if I was prodding you a little bit? Don’t be so susceptible to pressure. How are you ever going to amount to anything that way?

We started off with tomatoes and mozzarella for an appetizer. It was very flavorful and tasty. For the main meal my family and I ordered 2 pizzas, Hawaiian and Maui tomato. Both were very delicious just not quite as big as we expected them to be. Our food took a little longer than preferred, but then our waiter brought us a pie complimentary. Overall i was pleased with this restaurant experience and would definitely return

I liked this place — all the food was delicious — prices were about the norm for the area and was really delicious. We got served pretty quick some others were waiting but overall a cool place don’t know why it got low reviews

The location is great. The food is good but the service is slow. But you’re on a beach in Maui, who cares if it takes a little longer to get your drink.

Our family of 4 dined at the Sugar House on a Wednesday night. Our experience was not very pleasent. Without getting too specific I’ll give you my thumbnail opinion.
Food quality: average Price: medium to high priced. Speed of service: below average Ambiance: not so good considering its location Opinions: Service is slow because the kitchen and bar are too far away from the front(view) tables. I didn’t order more iced tea because I felt sorry for the waiter having to go all the way to the bar to get my refill. Because of this, I didn’t refill a $ 4.00 half-glass of iced tea. Amazingly, the water glasses were larger than the iced tea glass. To make matters worse, our table was the furthest from the kitchen, right under the waterfall. I hope that the new owners and the Westin corporation read these reviews and do something about the slow service and over priced items. The view from this restaurant doesn’t make up for all of its shortfalls.

The worst example of what a restaurant should be and a perfect recipe for Bar Rescue. Awful service, pretentious waiters who ignore patrons and told us they were out of food and we are free to go elsewhere after making us wait for 20 minutes to get any service at all. This happened twice in 2 days! Big fat ZERO

We tried out the Sugar House for happy hour(2:30−5pm) today when all of their drinks are half-off, making a reg priced $ 12 Lava Flow only $ 6. It may have been worth it for a beer, but the cocktails were obviously smaller and a lighter pour than regular dinner hours. The service was disappointing; we never did get our waters refilled. Nevertheless, the view is amazing, but next time, we’ll pick another spot in Whaler’s Village instead.

With all the excellent restaurants in Maui, do not waste your time here. We were trying to eat at a place over at Whaler’s Village but there were huge waits, so we figured we would give it a try. First of all, they tried to seat us near the front of the restaurant while it was extremely windy and drizzling. It took our server over 10 minutes to even great us after we sat down. It then took another 20 minutes to get our drinks. The cocktails are in tiny glasses that didn’t taste right at all. Def. not worth the large price tag. After our waitress delivered the drinks, we never saw her again until she brought us the check. Despite us ordering an appetizer and dinner, they both came out at once…30 minutes after we placed our order. We asked the gentleman that delivered the food if we could order another round of drinks(beers this time in light of the horrible cocktails). He took our order and the beers arrived 23 minutes later… AFTER we finished our meals. The food was completely subpar and I do not recomend spending your hard earned money for horrible service, bad drinks, and sub-par food.

I almost didn’t want to write a review on this — because I feel like more people make time to write bad reviews than good… but this was so bad, I can’t help myself. I really wanted to go up to the manager whom I recognize from another restaurant here, and as a courtesy tell her how bad the service was — but I think she was literally quitting and walking out when I got the chance to speak to her. Anyway, I live on maui — I’ve watched this particular location come and go as different things(or just sit vacant). I was happy to see something finally occupy this perfect spot on one of the best beaches. So this review comes as I’ve visited 3 times since they opened. Each pretty consistent with the others. By consistent, I mean horrible. SO it works like this. You walk up, and are always greeted with a smile — very welcoming. You are seated… at which point you wait… and wait… and wait … and wait for someone to come even offer you water, or acknowledge that you exist. I kid you not, when this wait can exceed 30 minutes. Even when the place is empty. How is this possible? If I was the hostess, bus boy, manager, or ANY human with a pulse in that place, I would recognize that customers are agitated(not just us) and waiting for service, and at least stop by to explain someone would be to the table shortly. Perhaps they don’t do that — because it would be a lie :) SO I can’t fault the support staff for not wanting to blatantly lie… Beyond that. When/If you finally get someone to take your order. You MAY get it. POSSIBLY. It’s sort of a 50⁄50 on whether or not your drink ever arrives. Then you factor in another 50⁄50 if it’s cold… then factor in another 50⁄50 if it’s correct… and if it’s a mixed drink it’s less than 50% chance it’ll be decent. So now, without doing complicated math — you’re probably at about a 10% chance that what you ordered(given the opportunity to order) will arrive cold, correct and taste good. Not odds you want when paying a premium — even if the people watching and view is amazing. Really they should just charge a 10 dollar cover and let you sit there to watch the sun set and not worry about serving anything… Anyway, on two occasions, food was ordered. Pizza… and random appetizers. Everything was actually quite good. So how they can screw up everything else but present decent food — is … odd to say the least. So what prompted my review(which I’ve refrained from doing, knowing the place was relatively new…)… is prompted by today’s experience. We are greeted by a familiar and friendly face.(as expected) We sit there in the front… We have an invasion of obnoxious women crowd our space. Which their only redeeming quality was to actually get annoyed enough to seek a manager out to get drinks taken. And ONLY because we were in close proximity, did the manger take our order too. The couple on the other side of me, no luck… she ran off before getting to them(even though they’d been sitting there 30+ minutes before us they mentioned). Those people left … annoyed. Quickly to be replaced by another couple… who subsequently ordered as our drinks arrived an hour later.(not kidding). By the time we were done… the replacement couple still had not received their drinks. We finished. Noticed two gentlemen being patient in the corner … who finally lost their decorum and went crazy on someone. I think they may have left… We asked for our check… by going to the hostess stand… We waited… Waited… Waited. 40 minutes later. NO service… no offer for more drinks… no check. I tried to pay someone… ANYONE just to get the hell out of there.(in the meantime the infuriated young couple next to us never got their drinks or order either…) Finally because of other commitments, we just left cash on the table equivalent to what we «thought» the bill may be. Who knows if anyone got it. I walked away wondering — how something like this is possible. I know this is Maui. I’ve lived here a long time. But this sets the new standard for the most atrocious service I’ve received… quite possibly ANYWHERE on the planet. That’s saying a lot considering I’ve been to a LOTOFPLACESONTHEPLANET! Really, they should close… change the name… wait a few months for the distaste of people to dissipate … and reopen as something else… anything else. ANYTHING else. This is the longest review I’ve ever written… and hopefully it doesn’t fall on deaf ears of the owners(as I really wanted to tell the management in person… but couldn’t)… And hopefully it doesn’t fall on the deaf eyes of the people reading it and considering this place. Pros: View /people watching. Cons: Everything else. EVERYTHINGELSE.

Worst experience. Ever! Let me explain. I’m actually writing this review on my vacation! We just got here. Made a reservation through our hotel. Get there at 7pm on the dot. Hostess seemed nice, but seats us at a dirty table, that still has a high chair and food all over the floor from the kid, she just pulled the napkin and chair away. My son sat down he is 7, said the seat was wet. and there I had enough! I called over the first person I saw a bus boy. I said«look at this seating we were provided, can you please provide us different accommodations?» He did… Then we sat. No kids menu, and about 5 min later water came. Then the manager comes over and says they are short staffed and he will be waiting on us. Why did he need to say all that? TAKEOURORDER. So we ordered everything at once. Coconut shrimp was good. Drinks took forever and so did the food, almost an hour from when we ordered., I ordered the Filet Mignon/well done/no sauce. I got a strip/bloody with sauce. My husband orders the pulled BBQ Chicken, he got a half chicken that was dry. So at this point I’m livid. The steak I ordered was $ 32 and I didn’t even get it, but they were going to have me pay for it!!! Nope! I went to the bar, called over the manager, but the lady who seated us was walking out and quitting so when he came over I explained we were seated at a nasty disgusting table, arrived at 7 and at 8:30 we finally had food, explained in detail the issues with our order. He took off the steak and 2 drinks I ordered as my husband was going to let his order mistake go. The bill was supposed to be $ 111.42 and we paid $ 60.42. When the manager waiter came by to collect our plates he decided to go into the management issues and that he was quitting too as some New Yorkers were hired to fix the restaurant management and he came in from the mainland to help but was from Maui. Complained about New Yorkers because what do they know… I can tell you they know bad service! As I am a New Yorker! My husband is military and we live on Oahu. But geesh. I got robbed $ 60! I gave one star as negative stars were NOT an option :(

We came to Sugar House after seeing the great menu options. The food was fantastic and the view gorg! These reviews regarding lack of children’s menu are a joke beyond belief. Does this look like a kid-friendly restaurant? No. It’s an adult, lovely place to dine without the rug rats screaming and running around. Anyway, my filet was perfect. My fiancé’s satay, beets, and coconut shrimp were beyond great. The sangria is different and refreshing. Yes, the service is SLIGHTLY slow, but I’m sitting on Maui… don’t mind the extra 5 minutes for dessert to arrive. Try it. I think you’ll enjoy the food.

This place is along the walk way part of the Westin. They have a happy hour from 2:30 to 5pm. That is the ONLY reason we stopped in. I suggest you keep moving along. It looks great but the staff is terrible. Took about 5 minutes to be seated by the host. It should not take 20 minutes to be waited on in a happy hour situation. We were seated at 4:30pm and 4:50pm a waitress showed up. She was like we are going to have to hurry there is only 10 minutes left on the happy hour. Yes, there is. We were not the only ones. Many people were seated but never got served prior to the happy hour expiring. Our drinks showed up on our table at 5:10pm. WOW40 minutes to get two drinks. We drank them and put $ 15 on the table and left. Who knows how long it would have taken to get a bill. Do not have a happy hour and then not have the staff to fulfill it. Drink was ok. Nothing I would write home about. It is inviting to stop but don’t.

Awesome sunset view. Service was kind of slow but not awful; order a good drink right off the bat and you’ll be fine. Don’t get the coconut shrimp, it was way overpriced for what it was. Pizzas are pretty good. We got the hawaiian(too many onions) and the sweet and spicy.

Everything on this beach is pricey so we weren’t worried about that. It’s the lack of an atmosphere and family friendly facilities that really hurt this place. No kids menu, no highchairs. Been waiting on the food for ages. Okay so the food finally came the whole chicken was deathly dry and my burger(ordered medium) was served to me terribly well done. Ended up just getting up and walking out as by now our two and three year olds were completely nuts without any food. They had the audacity to still charge us $ 76+ for cold appetizers and watered down cocktails. Please close this place down immediately! It’s killing the beach!

Awesome restaurant, good food, and our server Julia was the best. She was super attentive and made great menu suggestions. We had the Mahi Mahi and it was awesome. It’s nice to have a server who loves her job and makes you feel like you are the most important customers in the place She suggested we come back for happy hour with ½ off all drinks! Can’t wait to go back
