The Huli Huli Chicken Shack

None of the places mentioned in this thread are open today, Sunday May 18, 2014. There is a food stand at 4482 Lower Honoapiilani Rd but it’s not open today and not clearly about huli huli chicken. No one selling beachside along the highway near Front Street. Sad, my tastebuds were jumping for huli huli chicken today!

Winner Winner chicken dinner! My favorite is the Roast Pork… all plates come with Mac salad, Hapa Rice, and Corn relish and much Aloha ! Must visit while on Maui!

Awesome food — great laid back folks. Chicken is amazing — we got the combo plate with chicken, pork and veggies — everything was great.

soooo delicious! absolute must stop. my boyfriend and i ordered 1 plate and the cashier told us we’d want another. she was right. after eating our first plate, we came back and ordered 2 more.

The chicken was definitely good but not as good as the other reviews make it seem. You shouldn’t set your expectations too high. The meal was great for only $ 8 but the sides are sub par. The corn is canned corn and the meal is also served with plain white rice.

Huli Huli chicken as good as it gets in the Kahana area… we were just riding bikes along the lower road when this out-​of-​the-​world tempting BBQ’d chicken aroma took hold of our senses. A block further up the street we found this beckoning wafting smoke coming from an open aired shack right next to the China Boat restaurant.
The chicken we ordered (thighs) was so perfectly cooked, crispy and slightly charred on the outside and Kiawe flavored and juicy on the inside that we ordered a whole chicken to go for our picnic the next day for our drive to Hana. For our combo plates the other meat we chose was succulent roast pork served with a Maui onion brown gravy! Ono! The sides are no afterthought either with your choice between upcountry corn succotash and/​or island style mac salad with all plates including Hapa rice.
Unfortunately for now this roadside cubicle of goodness is only open on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. or until they’re sold out which happens frequently we were told. Run by a friendly local, bruddah Ian, I hope this ambassador of Aloha is here the next time we head over in January so we can again satisfy our great huli chicken cravings!

I enjoy the Hulli Hulli Chicken! It’s a firecracker in your mouth! I recommend everybody who visits maui, stop and try the chicken! Great taste good people!

Great huli huli chicken, friendly folks, especially Tiny. If you drive by here without stopping for some, you’re missing out

Not even a food truck but like a pickup truck with a trailer. Utilizing what appears to be the BBQ grill located at the beach park. Great grilled chicken with a mild smokey taste. Even if you don’t like chicken breast meat you’ll like this one. So tender and flavorful. The meat was so flaky tender.
¼ chicken with shoyu over white rice and canned corn side $ 8.00.

Excellent chicken! Got half a chicken meal for $ 13. Fed myself and my husband. What a deal! And the people working were so nice. Can’t wait to go back.

A side of the road stop for a quick and tasty meal. My husband and I were snacking our way down the highway, and after driving by two other times we opted to stop. Shared a ¼ chicken (dark meat) it came with a scoop of rice and the cost was $ 8. Bottled water was another $ 1. Tipped them $ 2 :)
The chicken was amazing! The skin was perfectly seasoned and crunchy the inside was juicy and tender. The corn was canned I think. They offered soy sauce for the scoop of rice. The plate was devoured in less than 5 minutes. If they could jazz up the sides a bit it would have been 5 stars. The best chicken I ever remember having.

Oceanfront dining, fantastic chicken! So it comes from a stand on the side of da road. As good as their other location in Hana. Only bad is that they are only open Saturday and Sunday and only until they run out of chicken.
Look for them just before the Front St. exit if you are heading from Kaanapali to Lahaina. It’s a little harder to get to them if you are heading to Kaanapali from Lahaina because they are on the ocean side of the road.
Also ask for the half-​chicken portion; it’s a bettah deal.

Really delicious chicken just grilling on the side of the road! For $ 8 you get basically half a chicken, some rice, and corn. The chicken was so tender and juicy, and the skin has some sweet delicious sauce grilled on it. Fantastic and easy meal on the cheap.
