This spot has excellent prices on eggs — about 50% or more less than the FoodLand just one mile away. It’s a small business too so it get’s a bonus star from me! The egg quality is excellent, as is the quality of the miscellaneous produce they may have available for sale. Did I mention they also sell T-shirts for $ 7.00?

Cackle Fresh offers both eggs, animal feed, and fresh produce from local farmers. Produce typically includes anything from papaya, onions, sweet potatoes, avocados, taro, apple bananas, garlic, etc. Plus, it sells for considerably less than you’d find produce at supermarkets like Foodland or Tamura’s. So, for me, I always make sure to shop at Cackle Fresh for produce. As for the eggs, they are from the mainland but are offered at whole sale here at Cackle Fresh. Which means that the eggs sell for considerably less than you’d find at Foodland and Tamura’s. Of course, I realize some people gripe that the eggs aren’t local, but last time I checked they taste the same. Not all of us are wealthy hippie-yuppies that perceive purchasing and eating mainland eggs as some moral dilemma.

I hate to give a small business a bad review but the eggs sold here aren’t local. I know it’s tough for the egg industry/farms to compete, but I don’t come out to the country to buy mainland eggs. I felt a little bamboozled when I read the fine print and saw that none of the eggs are local. The two stars are given for the other items for sale — fresh fruits and vegetables that are locally grown. They also sell animal feed, which I have no use for but others that live nearby may find useful. Perhaps they should re-focus the store on selling these goods.
