I love poke and always on the hunt for some good poke. Since we were going to be on the North Shore I looked up places for poke and read about Kahuku Superette. I can’t believe I never knew about this place before! Their poke is awesome, so fresh and delish and they serve it as a poke bowl. What I loved was that the sweet lady who helped us asked if I wanted a lot or a little rice, and I said«little». So she only put a little bit of rice and then piled on the poke! So generous and didn’t feel I was being served mostly rice and only a little bit of poke. Honestly, I rather come here for a poke bowl when in the area over garlic shrimp

Located near Giovanni’s shrimp truck, Kahuku is a a hidden gem! After binge watching Mark Wiens on YouTube(lol) I knew I had to stop by. If you’re there for poke, walk all the way to the back! Pick your poke of choice, give the person behind the counter the tray and choose between a small, medium, or large size. You are also given the option of rice! My family definitely enjoyed the poke. Best part is that it’s super close to the beach. I also bought some gummies as well. They have a great selection of li hing mui gummies~ oh and they also take card if your purchase is over $ 10 ;)

Specifically stopped by for the shoyu poke and it did not disappoint. We also ended up buying fresh tuna when we saw they still had the whole fish in the back fridge to sear on the grill for the next day. The shop looks a bit unassuming but well worth the visit.

This post is only for their poke. I normally get poke from them when on this side of the island. It’s always consistently good though sometimes the shoyu one at times is too salty for my taste

Claims to have the BESTPOKEBOWL. Now this is pretty brave and confident to proclaim. So I had to try. First off, there’s a pay phone in front of the store. Hooo… uncle was sitting outside smoking one with no shame. Oh first impressions, I must have gotten high as I walked in. The store seemed smaller on the outside but when you walk in its pretty vast in there. They have a variety of snacks, a li hing mui treats section, drinks, beers, and anything you need really. Pass the registers, you’ll see auntie serving some poke bowls. Pick a size bowl, tell her what kind you want and bam you got some ahi poke on top of rice. Don’t forget to top it off with some shoyu. It weighed in at around $ 11. Sounds pricey yeah?! Grabbed it to go and took it to the Hukilau Beach, what a beautiful spot to enjoy a poke bowl. The poke was so fresh looking and it just melts in your mouth. It had a very deep burgundy red hue and the flavor was super savory. I’d definitely go there again, eat poke bowls and head for the beach. This place is a diamond in the rough. Looks very local and not a lot of people which was a nice change. There is a small parking lot right in front with parking and its right off the main road in a residential area. Go check it out and you decide if its the best poke bowl ever.

We actually stumbled on Kahuku Superette unintentionally. We had intended on checking out Tita’s Grill, but parking was limited so we ended up parking at in the Kahuku Superette lot(sorry!). As we were heading back to our car, we noticed a sign claiming the best Poke on the Island. Since we had just arrived in Hawaii the day before and really wanted to try Poke, we headed inside to try it out. The Superette looks like your typical corner store, but has a small deli area in the back. The staff was super friendly and helped us with the ordering process. Portion sizes are small, medium and large. Honestly, medium was more than enough for the two of us. I ended up trying poke at a few other spots around the island and can honestly say Kahuku Superette has the freshest, most tasty poke. 10⁄10 will be back. Also, check out Munchies on Vice. Action Bronson does a decent review of the place. He was actually there again the day after we went, so I’m looking forward to his most recent review.

Best poke ever! Beware the portions they give you, even for a small size, are huge. They charge by weight so it’s possible you could ask for a half portion or something. I got the shoyu poke and it was super fresh and tasty. We got food at superette and then drove down the block to eat by the beach– a positively magical experience!

We drove past it initially but made our way back and so glad we did. Based on recommendation, we were told this place has the best poke on the island. Amazingly fresh and so very tasty. You cannot visit Oahu and miss a trip here for their poke.

Literally. The freshest poke on the island. They LITERALLY cut the tuna in front of you. The owners are the nicest people. They let me go behind the counter and and take up-close pictures of the tuna and the whole process. The whole place was MAGICAL.

Kahuku Superette puts out some pretty solid poke, despite its run-down appearances. I was fairly confident I had the wrong address when we pulled into a sketchy parking lot of an ancient convenience store, but nope, it was correct. OVERALL. + Poke is located in the back when you walk in, in tubs displayed in a refrigerated case + Hand the serving dish of your preferred poke to the woman behind the counter, and she’ll scoop out your order + Pay and be on your way(preferably with their spicy tuna poke, or the tako poke!) I wouldn’t really come here for anything BUT the poke, to be honest — it’s a sparsely stocked convenience store, basically, and not somewhere you’d go to hang out or meet up with people at.

*I think I found the best OAHU Poke to date here, old school place, not super friendly. Scratch that. Not really friendly at all *You have to hand the lady the bin and she scoops you up, not cheap either but really fresh and as tasty as you can ask for *Best Tako Poke I have ever eaten and I have been working on Poke for many years in many places!

I’ve been told come here for the best poke on the island! FOOD: Well, the poke bowl was pretty tasty! I had the ahi limu poke, which was pretty flavorful and spicy — there were a lot of spices and seasonings adding loads of flavor. I definitely enjoyed it! Greatest poke on the island… maybe. SERVICE&SPACE It’s a little connivence store and looks like one. Not much to say about the space. The service was okay — not overly friendly. The staff seemed a little annoyed with me, but that’s fine. Sometimes that adds to the authenticity of a place, right? If they’re mean to you, the food MUST be worth it! PRICE Okay. My bowl was $ 7, which is what I might expect to pay anywhere else.

On my drive to Turtle Bay Resort to check in, I was ready to dig into a serving of poke and being inpatient I stopped by this mini mart to grab fresh poke that is made daily. Pros Poke: I ordered the poke bowl which was a simple box of plain rice with your choice of poke from the deli. I tried their limu poke which was fresh and delicious. The seaweed that is mixed in their poke was crunchy and added a great texture to the poke. The ahi sashimi chunks was fresh and I would definitely return to try their spicy ahi poke. Deli: Aside from ahi, there was some other poke choices in the deli, such as fresh tako or ebi. You pick what tray of poke you want from the deli and hand it to the worker behind the deli counter and tell her exactly what size you want. You could also pick up some seasoned meat if you’re a local or if you have place to grill your meats.

So from the outside, the place looks like a run down mini mart, which essentially it is, but inside the convenience store is a deli style poke stand. The poke is super fresh and the owners are incredibly friendly. Someone recommended us to try it during our trip so we bookmarked it, but it was totally by chance we stumbled upon the place while driving back from Giovanni’s. We literally JUST ate but wanted to check it out to see what everyone was raving about. The sweet lady must have known we were from California because she began sharing about family out in Orange County. She made us little hand rolls to try, too. The poke was delicious! Had I been hungry I probably would have gotten a little of everything. I can see why they say, locals know best. Definitely will be back!

The Shoyu poke had really good flavor, but some of the cuts of fish weren’t the best and went uneaten. It wasn’t bad enough to stop us from going there three days in a row though :) It was definitely the best poke we had on the island, by far. Actually, the best poke we’ve had anywhere! We’re looking forward to returning to Oahu soon to get some more poke!

I have had better limu poke but I have to give them a 3 because the woman that was serving the poke was really nice. The customer she served before me bought the last of the limu poke. When I asked if there was more she said that there was no more but that she would make fresh limu for me :) She had it ready in no time. For this reason the limu poke was fresh but I had better just a few days before so I have to go with 3 stars here.

This place was recommended by an acquaintance who runs a successful restaurant back in L.A. I coincidentally stumbled upon this place while eating at Giovanni’s shrimp truck next door and had to give it a try. It’s a supermarket and the poke is sold to go. The poke(and other seafood/Korean items) are laid out in trays and you tell the lady which one you want and which size(S, M, L). I believe the lady was Korean but perhaps she was raised in Hawaii. We tried the shoyu poke and paid $ 15.99/lb for it which was a bit steep. Note: The shoyu poke is spicy. It has hints of red chiles in it, and after a few bites, your mouth will feel a burning sensation. For those who are weak to spice, I would recommend a different kind of poke, although I’m not really sure what other kinds they sell so you’ll have to ask. The poke was very good. The tuna tasted fresh, the shoyu was balanced well, and the green onions and other mix ins blended well. I shared it with others in my group, also with a kid from Sweden who normally doesn’t like fish and she enjoyed it. As an appetizer to share, the medium(with no rice) was more than enough for a handful of people. Give this place a try and hope you enjoy it!

This poke was even better than expected because the battery in our car had just died. So we were stranded, while eating poke, in Hawaii. Hell yeah. The poke was SLIGHTLY too salty in my opinion, but it was very very good and fresh. I’m at work still thinking about this poke…

I’ve come here several times for one thing… the Poke. When you’re driving around North Shore and are craving some Poke, give this place a try. The Ahi is super fresh. You can select from a variety of Poke’s but I can honestly say, they’re all really good. Located across the street from Kahuku High School. Just go to the back counter and let your eyes feast upon absolute goodness. If you get there at the right time, you’ll see them cutting-up fresh Ahi.

In the middle of no where on the north shore, tucked away in the side of Kahuku superette, is a tiny korean kitchen poke stand that produces the tastiest, Taegu shrimp ever! This stuff is super expensive, $ 29.99/ lb! Holy cow! But your taste buds deserve it! Yes, yes, Unilocalers here are all right, the shoyu poke is worth the epic drive up from town to eat, but I’m surprised no one else on Unilocal has said anything about the Taegu Shrimp. The superette looks abandoned when you drive up to it, but it’s not. If you’re wondering of how you order the Taegu, poke etc, as the counter configuration is weird… you have to pick up the bins and hand them to a lady to weigh out what you want and put back the bin when she’s done. It’s like a self service poke stand. Nothing else in the superette is worth noting other than beer here is $ 1 – 2 cheaper than elsewhere on the north shore, even town. There’s nothing like shrimp Taegu, poke and beer on the beach! That’s a combination of perfect!
