Out of Bounds CrossFit

The owner was very welcoming, but taught the class using videos from YouTube. If that’s how it’s taught here your better off staying home and figuring it out on your own. Small space, but is great for easy-​going people who want a little taste of crossfit and not the real deal.

What I really appreciate and value about Joel is his approach to health & fitness from the perspective of a functional movement specialist. Over the many years that I have been going to Out of Bounds Fitness/​CrossFit, I have found that this added dimension has been incredibly valuable to my overall health and well-​being, in addition to getting a workout that kicks my butt! :)

this is my only CrossFit review and experience so i have nothing to base this off of. that is the only reason i didn’t give this gym 5 stars
this gym was my first time exercising in at least 4 years and a couple car accidents ago. Joel is great and doesn’t pressure you into over exerting yourself and he will modify the exercises as we go so i can properly restrengthen my shoulders and hopefully get into shape. also good location and safe parking for your car.

I bought a living social deal for Out of Bounds Crossfit. I have to admit, at first, I was rather intimidated by going to crossfit because of all the crazy workout stories I had heard from my friends. Needless to say, I decided to give it a try and boy was I thrilled! I loved going to work out and highly anticipated what Joel would come up with for the WOD. Never was there a dull moment and in the short time I was working out there, I could definitely see a difference in my body tone and fat levels. I am not a larger person at all, so it was probably more noticeable to me than it would be to others but after just 10 visits, I could see definition in my abs that I did not have before, my butt was lifted from the different work outs and I can even do a pull up now (which was never even something I considered before).
One of my favorite things about Out of Bounds crossfit in comparison to other crossfits is Joel’s attention to each individual person. The class sizes are not too big which gives him the ability to pay attention to each person. He notices if you are not doing a lift correctly and comes over to help you until you are doing it properly. He is careful to adjust something if an injury prevents you from being able to do the assigned workout and he remembers your injuries and watches for them the next time you come in.
I had quit going because I was laid off from my job but now that I am working again, it will not be long before I am back in there for more torture! One thing to note, the location of this particular crossfit is not ideal for many people (including myself) but I still recommend it and will continue to go back even though it is not totally convenient for me simply because Joel is awesome and I appreciate his attention to each person. He could save you from an injury that another place might be too overwhelmed to notice.

I had been working out here once a week for the last two months with Joel. I can say this with certainty that Joel is a topnotch trainer. He pays individual attention to each of his trainees and is always more than willing to answer any questions you may have about crossfit.
A couple of things that I’ve found are not so ideal for me. The first one is location. It took me almost an hour to get to the gym from Downtown for a 5:30 p.m. class. I-​5 heading north is so jam-​packed during that time and the local road is not much different either. Second is the class schedule. I do a quick comparison of crossfit prices and found that although Joel charges relative the same as other crossfit gyms, he offers less classes than the others; and there is no class offered on weekend.
Although I am taking a short break right now, I am still giving Joel 5 stars for his crossfit knowledge and training style. I was new to crossfit, but Joel made me feel comfortable about it. I would definitely consider having Joel as my trainer again and would highly recommend Joel to anyone who is interested in crossfit. Give him a try! You won’t regret.

I purchased a deal similar to Groupon. It was $ 20 for 10 classes (need to use within 60 days). I went to total 8 classes since I can only attend once a week. But, it’s worth the money back for sure!
The gym is located in Lake City near by an old elementary school facility. I have to say it’s not a fancy gym like LA Fitness or 24-​hr Fitness. However, with the workout we did in 45 mins in class with small group of people (6 – 8), we don’t really need that! The Instructor, Joel designed different workout every week for the class. It’s always intense. I absolutely enjoyed it. I wanted to become a regular member. But, the cost is a bit too high and I can’t really justify in my budget now. Well, if any of you are interested, talk to Joel, he will give you special deals.
CrossFit would really benefit for training like running a marathon, bike races, etc. Since you will be trained in smaller group, the instructor would be able to correct your postures if you don’t do it properly.
As soon as I am on my budget again, I will contact Joel and sign up for more classes.

Go here. Joel will kick your ass. But in the kindest way possible. I joined in a reasonable state of fitness (regular running, strength training, and hiking), but HOLYMOTHEROFGOD am I sore after each and every class! The cost may seem steep, but bear in mind the kind of attention you get is akin to personal training. And you’d be hell-​bent not to see results.
There’s also no militant-​style barking at this place, which I really appreciate. A few years ago, I hopped on the boot camp bandwagon, which was the push-​it-​til-​ya-​puke (some really did) approach. Working out here is nothing like that — Joel is quite personable, incredibly highly trained (I worked in the fitness industry for years — I rarely come across folks trained at this level), and dedicated to helping you transform your body without being a jerk about it.
No, he didn’t pay me (or even prompt me) to write this. I don’t write many reviews, but I was so impressed, I just had to. There’s only ever one or two other people in my classes, which is awesome for me, but hard to believe. Seriously, people — go join now. You (and your future sweet, sweet bod) will thank you.

Let me tell you (from experience), when you work out with Joel, you will never experience the above scenarios!
Joel’s workouts are effective and efficient! He’s all above FUNCTION! Your body needs to be strong in ALL planes of movement!
He can give you a workout in 60 mins, 30 mins… hell, he can give you a hard workout in 10 mins if he had to!
Joel does one thing I rarely see trainers at big gyms do: He will modify exercises to work for you! So, if you have high blood pressure, an old shoulder injury, a busted knee… it doesn’t matter! He will help you reach your fitness goals!
He offers one-​on-​one sessions, as well as group sessions! I have done each, and have enjoyed both! The CLIMB is a great workout (and I always recommend people try it out to see what he’s about — the 1^st one is FREE!) You’ll burn up to 1000 calories in a 60 min class, and you’ll never do the same one twice, each class is different! It’s a lot of fun! He doesn’t stand over you like a drill sergeant; sometimes he’ll even do the workout along side you!

Joel is an extremely knowledgeable former NCAA strength trainer/​Personal trainer and his goal is to mix up the muscle groups he targets so you get a true total body workout. His routines are never the same and he always keep you guessing. Examples include lunges with dumbells, jumping routines, tai chi, squat thrusts, push-​ups and side planks. It sounds painful, but he is totally accomodating to different ability levels with the ability to modify to an individual’s needs at the drop of a hat. Also, he mixes the hour’s routine so much, you don’t have time to get «burned» out. The burn comes the next day and oh how it comes… :)
As far as «boot camps» go, Joel’s program is one of the more affordable options out there and flexible in terms of schedule. He offers a per-​class drop in option or a 2-​day per week monthly fee. The best results are obviously if you go every Monday/​Wednesday, but if you can only do once a week or once a month, he graciously welcomes you.
Get your water bottle and come on down! M & W 6 – 7 pm on the field @ Roosevelt High School. If you have a set of dumbells you covet and a yoga mat, bring those too. Your knees and elbows will thank you for preventing «turf burn».
