Kronos Gyros & Cafe

This is my third time eating here, so far the food seems to be consistent each time and this is over the past three years. Every time I drive to Chicago, I’ll stop here and grab their Gyro plate with lamb, pita, hummus and a small salad. The cost is fairly reasonable and the lamb is always cooked just right. Overall, you cannot go wrong here with the Gyro plate. I just wish they gave more than one pita for the plate.
This restaurant is located right off the I-​94 Mobile/​7-​Eleven Oasis, which is right by Abbott Laboratories.

I’m a huge gyros guy and Chicago area generally has good gyros so this was an easy call. Good gyros is all about the perfectly toasted pita, shaved meat (brown on the outside and not dry) and a gooey mess of tomatoes, onions and the cucumber sauce. Sauce is the ultimate factor which can make it or break it for gyros and it was terrible. It was nothing like the usual cucumber sauce you taste on gyros. Meat was not brown and salty as heck too. Ate it on a hungry stomach and it was still bad and didn’t even want to finish it. Never again!

I typically don’t give three star ratings on account it does not give my fellow Unilocalers a true sense of the place considering it’s smack dab in the middle. However, that is how this place fits. It’s neither really good (4 stars) and is not deserving of a two star rating either.
The service was quick, they were friendly for the few minutes you stand there. The Gyro itself was okay. Just enough meat and sauce. I personally would have liked a few more onions and the tomatoes were not the freshest either.
As others have mentioned, this is on 94 in an Oasis, which is okay if you are continuing on in the same direction you were heading. For me it works well on account I at times head to my home office at around noon time, so this is on the way and makes for a quick bite.
I would definitely come back again, but would not go out of my way to come here.

Stopped there last night (¹²⁄₃₀) on our way home from WI. The guys working there are not consumer friendly at all. Had to wait until they finished their conversation to get waited on. Ordered a cheese flatbread pizza and a polish with just mustard. The sandwich was made and just sat in the bag on a table until the pizza was done. Asked if there were any napkins and was told they were in the bag which they weren’t !
Got back to the car only to find the polish had onions and peppers on it, no mustard even in sight ! Doesn’t take a rock scientist !
Guys were more interested in their own conversation and flirting with the ladies then taking care of business. Won’t go there again and I doubt they will stay in business for much longer !

FREE GYRO DAY LAST TUESDAY! My gyro was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. I probably wouldn’t go here for a gyro if I was in the mood (because its at the Lake Forest Oasis), but if you are in the mood for a gyro and happen to be driving on 294, then stop in there dummy!

In the mood for a gyro? This is definitely NOT the place to go. Upon arrival at this establishment, I stood patiently at the register for a few minutes waiting for the employees to finish their conversation. Defeated and ignored, i went to the bathroom and decided to try again. After finally placing my order (gyros, Kronos fries, and a drink), the service was extremely slow. Instead of preparing my food, the employees were complaining to each other about how they had to stay open until 8pm and were hatching a plan to close early at 7:30. Finally I see my gyro being wrapped up. After it is sitting on the counter, the employee decides to drop my fries into the oil to cook. They forgot to give me my drink cup, and I couldn’t even ask for it because they were so engrossed in their conversation. About ten minutes later, I had received everything and sat down to eat. What I saw when I unwrapped the gyro was enough to almost make me throw up! Big chunks of grisly undercooked and cold meat. I wouldn’t even feed this quality of food to my dog! I tried to bring the sandwich back, but to no avail. The 2 employees were now nowhere to be seen! The whole establishment looked abandoned. The sandwich ended up in the garbage, and I ended up eating Sbarro pizza. There are many choices for food while at the lake forest oasis, choose any one but this one! It pains me that I have to give this establishment even 1 star, as I don’t believe it deserves any.
