This food is excellent take away. Chipotle style ordering. Prices are reasonable since you get a decent amount of food(but they’ve slimmed down on that since they opened).

I am a big fan of Greek food and this place does it well. Everything was delicious. Great experience. I only wish this was closer to home.

Sew an episode on TV Marcus Lemonis The Profit on CNBC that he had a location in Chicago Area. Had to visit this place as I love Gyros. There Gyro is OK I mean it hit the spot since I was very hungry. I’d give this place another chance next month I’ll stop by and see how the Gyro tastes. I’m only going to return because I’m a big fan of Marcus Lemonis.

Decided to try this after seeing it featured on the Profit. So we jumped in the car and drove the 45 minutes to Highland Park for what we hoped would be some great Greek fast food. Gotta say we were more than disappointed. I have been eating gyros since they were introduced in the late 70“s.i was a child of course… and i have to say that i have NEVER seen a restraint claiming ties to the Greek people serve gyros pre cut off of a steam table! Preposterous! It was extremely thinly sliced. cold and dry as a bone. something akin to shoe leather. The pita bread that is advertised on the menu as hand pulled. which leads one to believe that it would be fresh and homemade is more than a small stretch of the truth. That also was not warm nor fresh nor pulled by any human hand. The owner/manager was present but instead of making sure the food they serve was of quality. was busy canoodling with his girlfriend at a table right in the front window for all to see. Very disappointed especially since the Profit’s Marcus Limonis seems to be such a brilliant business man who accepts nothing bit high quality from his businesses. Will never venture into The Simple Greek again even if one is opened in my neighborhood.

This place is so good! Love the greek yogurt bar and the salads are delicious!!! The options for salad toppings are unique and fresh. The chicken is preferable to the chicken gyros. If you are a vegetarian, you will love it! You can select heavier options like potatoes or keep it lighter with all veggies. The topping for yogurt are also delish! Don’t let this place close– eat there!!!

It’s been 6 months since Simple Greek opened, and I’m not sure how much better it is now than when it opened… Several people noted that as a «test» kitchen in the beginning that the food was«ok» but the staff was really not knowledgeable. That trend continues now. My Greek salad bowl, filled with lentils/rice, hummus, steak and veggies, was pretty good from a fast-food perspective. However, the rice was undercooked, the steak chunks were over poked, and the greens were dried out. My dining partner ate the gyros sandwich, which was also«meh,» as the gyros meat was bland and not very hot right out of the steam table. The staff could have warmed it up, but didn’t suggest that. We had already returned to the counter to heat up the dolmades, which were hard, cold & bland. Also, the very nice staff had no idea what type of wine or beer they were serving. They only had a couple options, so you’d think the«boss» would educate the staff. All in all, I doubt I’ll return. There are too many other good Greek & Mediterranean options around here.

Amazing food at Chipotle prices. Unlimited high quality toppings. Tried the gyro and chicken, were both fantastic. Tzatziki was awesome, as were the pitas(even at 6:30pm on Sunday night, 30 mins before closing. Disagree with comment from Andrew A.) Great customer service. Will be back again, please don’t go away!

The only reason I am giving three stars is because of the employees. The food was subpar if that… If you want Greek food just go to backyard grill down the street.

Friendly staff, clean and well set up. Pitas can be a bit old though. They should adapt the chipotle tortilla heater for their pitas. I recommend ordering a small bowl with an extra pita on the side to get a fresh one. Despite this, it’s still good spot to get healthier fast food.

Think Chipotle for Greek food. They have a fun Greek Bowl concept where you can pick your base(salad or rice) and then add different proteins and toppings. Super filling, pretty healthy and very delicious. Unlike many Greek places this was very clean and free from that greasy feel. It was definitely a very fresh feeling atmosphere. Loved it.

I’ve eaten here twice now with my wife, and it’s delicious. Simple to order and lots of side options. Good portions too. The employees are super nice too. They are happy to tell you about the food. One time they forgot my fries, which wasn’t that big of a deal, but they not only got us the fries, but they refunded the money for the fries and gave us free baklava. Totally not needed, but goes to show you the great service you can expect here.

Stopped in for lunch. I had a salad bowl With Gyro meat, my buddy had a gyro sandwich. The portions were ample, but the food was bland. There was no garlic taste in the tzatziki and the gyro Meat could have been plastic. I know this is a «test» kitchen, but the food needs an overhaul and the staff needs to be better trained to inform the customer of their choices. Unless something changes, I won’t be back.

The food is decent here. But the customer service is far from places with a similar model like Chipotle. The person who worked with me in my food was so disgruntled and acted as though I was such a bother to her. Then, while we were dining in, the same server was at the table next to us eating, and photo depositing her paycheck! So unprofessional of a restaurant like this! I’d rather make the walk over to Chipotle. Our office misses Sophie’s(Rose’s) the previous restaurant at this location. Stop the frequent retail and restaurant change-overs, Highland Park! It’s not nice for us who live and work here.

It’s like a Chipotle for Greek food, with much more comfortable seating. The food was excellent and the portion size for the meat was ample. The whole wheat pita option is much appreciated. The toppings are plentiful and fresh. The pricing is very reasonable, but seems a little lopsided if the entrée is meatless. Meat or beans on pita is $ 7.95, but in a bowl with salad and/or rice is $ 8.95, with a piece of pita on the side being 95 cents. I had a regular gyros on pita with the normal toppings – $ 7.95. My wife had a salad with no meat and was offered a piece of pita(no mention of the charge, although it is on the signboards) and it came to $ 9.90. Perhaps there should be a separate, lower charge for a meatless entrée – like at Chipotle. I hope the test succeeds.

Menu was a bit confusing the chicken was way too dry the kids barely touched their food because it was just not appealing to them spices were too strong. My wife could only eat half her salad because it wasn’t really fresh enough Will not go back

Average food. Will not be back. Good prices. I wouldn’t mind paying a little more for tastier food and possibly organic food. We got the bowls. Too many flavors going on in the bowls. Prefer to get a few things separately. Good vegetarian options. We went during the early weeks of opening whole they were still taking suggestions, so maybe the food has gotten more flavorful.

Disorganized and forgot sauce from takeout bag. Pita, Gyro everywhere else, is good however, the bowl was not and left us wanting to order out from another restaurant for lunch as it was just thrown away. Not sure Marcus is on the mark here as it is really simple, perhaps too much, and lends itself to a Food Cart or small hole in the wall take out in Manhattan or Chicago for a lunch crowd. For all the marketing expertise supposedly available on the«Profit», this place is very underwhelming and blasé. Had high hopes for a Greek option in town but not sure this will stick. Do wish him good luck. Likely lots of early action and lunch for the new place but challenge to see if it can last profitably.

Light, lovely, and open for business! A product of Marcus Lemonis, I love what he’s doing with this restaurant. For the next few weeks The Simple Greek is open for business, but as the signs clearly note, it’s open as a Test Kitchen while the staff learns the ropes, accepts feedback from the community, and gets used to operating in Downtown Highland Park. 5 stars for the test kitchen idea, 4 stars for the food, and 3.5 stars for the service(just needs to be a little bit faster). Staff is super sweet, but I look forward to coming back when the Test Kitchen is closed to see if everyone is fully trained and ready for the demanding HP market. I’m a person who’s easily overwhelmed by large menus, so this place is a dream. You choose from a bowl or a pita and then follow the steps to build a meal to your liking. Today I basically ordered a Greek salad bowl loaded with fresh ingredients. Fresh lettuce, delicious and moist grilled chicken, feta cheese, black olives, and a tomato/red onion mix added in. The house dressing made me so happy, because… no garlic! Just olive oil, lemon, and I think cilantro. I loved my Greek salad bowl and can’t wait to come back! I was starving, and the portion size was perfect for me. Price of $ 8.95 seemed like a *good* value. I hope this place does well, because it’s a nice addition to the Highland Park restaurant mix, and I look forward to coming back for another salad!
