I wanted to write a great review and waited several years before coming back. I figured we must have had«off moments» of visiting and eating here. Unfortunately it seems that whoever owns this place has no desire to improve and impress. The food menu is basic, and unappealing. When I placed my order I was told they can’t make what I wanted. I ordered a variety of items, all overpriced for what they were. Several items were thrown away as they tasted old and far from fresh(seafood). I’m not comprehending the price, as they are much higher than your upscale restaurant in a busy downtown setting. I know LO is pricy, but the prices weren’t indicative of what they served. Furthermore, the hostess was not accommodating, rude and disinterested. Almost as though we were bothering her. The waiter was worse. He was arrogant, smug and in a hurry for no reason. We would be fools to go back, as there are many places around that want your business and do their best to make your meal a memorable experience. We’ll look elsewhere, we’ve given them enough times to sort their food and attitudes out.

While the location with the view of the lake cannot be beat, it’s overpriced and he portions are not large enough to justify the cost. They have a great bottle selection for wine, however wines by them glass are limited.

We had breakfast at Five Spice on Sept 13th. Both of us ordered Eggs Benedict. The food was Super salty-eggs, bacon, potatoes-it was like the salt was poured on; Hollandaise was runny and bland. Service was poor to fair… we had to keep asking for refills of water and coffee — our server seemed about as disinterested as they come. This breakfast for two was certainly not worth the $ 50 price tag… not sure if we will go back…

Jay was our waiter and he was so patient and kind to me and my party! We asked to move and he did so without making us feel guilty about it. He made Excell suggestions, overall I am so happy with my experience! Excellent!

The only reason I am giving this restaurant a 1 is solely for their customer service. I called to reserve their private room and when asking questions the responses were rude and not willing to allow me to ask questions. I started out by asking if the private room would be appropriate for a standing area happy hour and if 25 people attended would there be an issue,(which 20 was their max on the website and the max the hostess Nicole told me) Next thing I know the hostess is telling me I have to contact the manager and puts someone else on the phone. The guys that got on the phone was very rude and wouldn’t even let me speak and next thing I know he is telling me their max is 15… Well sorry I called to ask questions and I suppose they are the ones that missed out! I would not recommend them if you are attempting to organize a nice happy hour.

I’ve been coming to Five Spice and it never disappoints. It is a pricey restaurant, so happy hour is a more wallet-friendly option. The cheese plate is always a must order, I have never been disappointed by the cheeses. Some other favorite dishes are the Heart of Palm Salad, cheeseburger(amazing fries), and the rotating specials. I don’t drink so I can’t attest to the quality of the cocktails but the lemonade is delicious.

Great spot with a fantastic extended Happy Hour if you choose to eat inside. Short HH with outside seating looking at the lake. Nice setting. Wine list was extensive and pricey. The service was excellent, and the appetizers were very good. We had the crab cakes which were excellent. The coconut shrimp however was heavy on the breading. The special was the pan seared Ono, which was very good. This is one of the better places to dine in L. O. Expect to pay, but worth checking out.

Greeted at the entrance, promptly seated on the patio over looking Oswego lake on this sunny Friday afternoon, happy hour. Fresh bread, and condiments, acknowledges from all the servers, happy hour wine and small plates at great prices. Fish tempura, salad, olives, and chicken satay. To hot to eat… awesome! 1 hour of bliss… With my lovely wife… Great food… great place!

setting/Ambiance — 4 stars drink options = 4 stars Service– 4 stars Price — 3 A little spendy at 3.00 a pop for an oyster appetizer coming out to 18.00. $ 14 for the crunchy coconut shrimp. Both were however delicious. 3 drinks later for me, 2 for my fiancé and we are at a $ 150 tab with two entrees. I had the scallops which were nice and buttery and good sized. She ordered the Mahi-Mahi. Needless to say, we both enjoyed the setting, flavors, and service… We just would probably attend one of the areas other fine dining establishments before going back as we like trying new places.

Not only is the view great… the interior is swanky and fun and the food… well, it’s amazing. Every time I’ve eaten at Five Spice, it’s been great. Tonight, it took the cake! The raw oysters were excellent, the crab/beet salad was excellent. The ahi sashimi was SO good! The surf and turf made my boyfriend giddy(this is hard to do… he’s VERY picky). I tried his lobster tail, it was amazing AND not overcooked like they CAN be elsewhere. The upstairs dining area can be loud and the chairs make an unpleasant noise, on the floors, when scooted. But the food and service are outstanding. I love Five Spice.

Decent to good wines by the glass although fewer than I expect for a wine bar — by some margin. Just had some appetizers which were good.

What’s not to like about this place? Beautiful place, amazing food, wonderful service, great view of the lake and awesome location in Lake Oswego!!! The calamari(fried five spice squid) was great! It was served with a very flavorful aioli and ponzu sauce. mmmm… Our salad was delicious! And we shared this moist, raspberry chocolate cake served with fresh raspberries which was to die — SO delish!!! The only downfall was that we had entered into a contest to win an AWESOME grill and I guess they forgot to call us…

Hmmm. We just weren’t in the mood for Asian infused dishes. So we are slightly dishing this lovely restaurant – personal preference. Something’s never quite right about this place to us. First of all, upon arrival at 6pm it is too empty and cold. Wait staff nice and attentive, however. Food okay, remember the Asian influence and spices are mixed with American entrees. Butter lettuce salad and house salad were huge and bland. could have been our entire meal. We also ordered the special: Kobe beef and sautéed veggies with puréed potatoes. Pretty good but the beef did not melt in mouth. A little too tough. $ 48 My hubby ordered the seafood stew which was okay. Too many Asian infused spices for him. To be fair, we probably were not in the mood for this style of cuisine. Will not be back, unfortunately.

I was turned on to this place from a co-worker. If the climate permits sit outside the view is just as amazing as the service and the food. The service was absolutely amazing. We never had to ask for a thing. Our water glasses were always full and when our cocktails hit a certain point they were there asking to refresh. Very attentive but not standing over your shoulder. The servers have a great knowledge of the menu and were very helpful. The food looked, smelled and tasted excellent. The seafood was cooked to perfection. I am really picky with scallops and these were not overlooked. The goat cheese potatoes were creamy and tasty. The duck confit literally fell off the bone and had such a crispy skin. Words will not do any of this meal justice, go try for yourself!!!

Celebrated a friend’s retirement here with 12 close friends. The evening was magical – delicious food, beautiful, semi-private space, well-paced service, and lots of wine. We opted for small plates, thinking we would move on to dinner in an hour, but the appetizers were bountiful, interesting, and richly varied. Instead of ordering dinner, we went for another round of appetizers. We lingered for at least three hours without fatiguing the waiter or feeling pressure to move on. Five Spices made our celebration vibrant and into a lasting memory. Aside from literally ordering everything on the appetizer menu, the desserts and coffee were pitch perfect. Delightful evening – so much so that I just made reservations for another party of friends, celebrating another milestone. I’m banking on wonderful evening and will try to capture our food choices in photos to add to this review.

Not impressed at all. It was all about the details from the moment we walked in. No salt on the table or sugar. My husband’s grandpa ordered a seafood stew and they did not bring him a spoon…(really?). The waiter disappeared for long periods of times even thought we were sitting by the bar and the place was almost empty. My fish was poorly seasoned and very oily, it almost felt like I was eating institutional food, rather than the fancy vibe they give when you walk in. The only thing I liked is the iPad available at each table with the wine/drinks list. I thought that was original. Aside from that, there is A LOT of room for improvement.

Despite«Wine Bar» in the title, for some reason I didn’t realize this REALLY is a wine bar. My fiancé picked this out for a celebratory dinner and it turned out wonderfully. We went on a Sunday, which means many of the bottles of wine are half off. Seriously, go on a Sunday. We ordered the Tartar Trio, which turns out one of the Tartars was vegetable, that was a little disappointing although they all tasted very good. Because I liked the fish one best, I would go straight for the Poke next time. I ordered a clam chowder that was good but had a little something extra that wasn’t normal for a clam chowder. I couldn’t put my finger on it. I thought fennel, and asked the waiter, and I think he forgot to get back to me, he was going to ask the chef. I ate all of it though. It was a well made dish with good quality ingredients. My fiancé ordered the special New York Strip. It and the little potato birds nest with fois gras in it as the side were outstanding. Their wine list is on an iPad, which is adorable, and you can read the descriptions and prices to pick out what you want. Unfortunately some of the descriptions were unhelpful, but in the long run that’s the winery’s problems since it means I didn’t buy it. We were thrilled with the one we did choose, it was exactly what I was hoping for. We drank about 2⁄3 of the bottle of wine, and the waiter packaged it up for us to take home with us in what I suppose was a legal manner. All in all, I was pleased. This place wasn’t what I expected it to be. We’ll be back(on a Sunday).

Love this place. Came here for a Christmas dinner with my team from work and our wives. We had a great time. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. We had the Fried Five Spice Squid for an appetizer and it was delicious. I’m not usually a fan of squid, but the was prepared perfectly. My wife and I split the Dungeness Crab & Beet Salad, which they brought out on separate plates for us which was nice. Salad was great. Perfect amount of crab and beets mixed in with the greens. For entrees I got the Roasted Sturgeon, and it was awesome. Its hard to find places that serve sturgeon, so I always get it when I can and this was one of the best plates I’ve had. My wife got the Thai Pesto-Crusted Mahi Mahi, and she thought it was very good as well. The drinks were great too. I went with an Old Fashioned, or two, and they were great. I do wish they would have been served with a whiskey block of ice instead of cubes, but it was still good. We ended our dinner with cheesecake, and a glass of Port wine. Both were amazing. I would highly recommend Five Spice if you are looking for something classy, yet not too formal. I hope to be back sometime soon.

I have a mixed review, but that atmosphere was great so I’ll go with 4 stars. They have a lovely indoor and outdoor fireplace. The outdoor porch area looks great for the summer, so I will be back. We went for happy hour, and I got the Billy Ocean cocktail. It was really good! I also got the corn chowder, and it was very bland. The soup was all blended, I have to say it wasn’t good. I’m a soup snob, but it still didn’t have much flavor. We also got the spring rolls and those were really good. Great location.
