This place had changed ownership about a yr ago changing the name to Toyko. When it did it was for the better. The soup finally had flavor, the meat was not bland, the steak was very tender(even when ordered med well). But by February it changed hands again. They were adding garlic and the«yum yum» sauce to the hibachi rice, and they must have cut back in other ingredients because the soup was watered down, no more juicy meat and the new staff sucked! Their ginger salad dressing was horrible, their ginger sauce for the vegetables was aweful, teriyaki sauce too. We ask for extra rice but when in a large group they still seem to give everyone equal amount becausw chefs don’t understand you? I believe it may have changed hands again. The ginger sauce and soup was more flavorful. Chef didn’t add yum yum or garlic to the rice, and the meat, although cut up in smaller pieces to make it look like you get more is more flavorful. Toyko just went from a 1 star to a 3 ½. Our server who is new(only 3 weeks working here) didn’t know if they changed hands but she was very nice and kept our drinks coming.

Always good service and food at the hibachi. The cooks are entertaining and you always get more than enough food. Buy 2 get one free on beers as well. The Filet and Scallops is the same price as the regular sirloin.

Went to have the hibachi now that the buffet style is gone. Was def surprised to have a decent meal, soup, salad and drink for only $ 10.99. Never busy, so would recommend you give it a try!

The name has changed to Tokyo Steakhouse. This was truly an awful experience. Attempted to go here on a Thursday night to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We were sat @ 7:10PM. There was 1 waitress and 1 cook on duty, and only 2 other tables. We received our drinks in a timely fashion. However, the waitress NEVER came back. We ordered sushi rolls and soup and salad that should have been delivered before our entrees. At 8:05PM we still had no sushi rolls, no salad and no soup. The waitress offered no explanation. The table beside us said«good luck» as they were leaving. We canceled our dinner and left @ 8:10PM. I would suggest NEVER going to this restaurant, unless you have 2 – 3 hours to kill and you are not hungry. We went around the corner to the Peking Chinese Restaurant which was awesome.

Truly awful. Even at 9.99 for the basic buffet, it was way overpriced for the dreck they left sitting in the steamer trays. I know this is a buffet, but I do have certain standards. We arrived more than two hours before closing, but some trays were empty and were never refilled. Others sat half empty, forlorn and remarkably free of flavor and palatable texture. But, hey… if you’re into cold fried fish bits; greasy, tough, lukewarm krab rangoon and«calamari»; raw oysters that look like road kill, and tepid deep-fried, cream cheese stuffed mystery sushi mixed in with onion rings, then you’ll love it. We hoped someone would tend the buffet. Didn’t happen. We got through it, though I left hungry. At the checkstand we were asked how everything was. When we replied, «meh, we expected someone to be attending to the buffet», he actually challenged us. «Well, then you told a waitress? Or you asked for something to be refilled?» When we said no, he came back with, «Next time you need to tell someone. One of the waitresses you saw at the tables or stop me, you saw me walking around. Tell somebody. It only takes a few minutes to cook one of those steaks. The chef can make anything out there.»(yeah, there were two lonely, shriveled steaks that sat there for our entire visit, nestled uncomfortably on a pile of onions. The«Barbecue Prime Ribs» should have been called barbecued sub-prime bonelets — there was so much more to hate, but you get the picture. My husband and I looked at each other… So it’s our responsibility to ensure the buffet is well tended. One would think that a manager in a buffet restaurant would be able to spot deficiencies on the table and might actually take safe food temperatures seriously. We didn’t happen to have a thermometer with us… So anyway, stay away. I know we will. WORST. BUFFET. EVER. There are *so* many options nearby that are in the same price range that are MUCH better.

We chose the hibachi dinner, I had steak/shrimp combo and my wife had the chicken. The«performance» by the chef was warn out and obviously done 1000’s of times, he looked bored and did the typical cheesy gags. The food was mediocre, unflavored and lacked quality. The chef was attempting to be funny and dumped tons of sauce on my wife’s plate and she almost couldn’t eat it. Honestly, I’ve made much better stir fry at home and for a tenth of the price. For a party of two it was $ 40 w/tip and just soda’s to drink(no Coke option just Pepsi). Wont be going back and after reading the other reviews here on Unilocal,I certainly wont be trying the buffet.

Had the buffet. It was really good for 9.99. Not the best, but good.

The food is of incredibly poor quality. We went on a Friday night hoping they would have there A game on and it was awful. The food was obviously from the cheap warehouse. Best described as bland, flavorless, and perhaps what would be served in a prison. A creepy manager in blue jeans– yes blue jeans-worn high on his hips-seemed to be like a vulture lurking around the tables. Do yourselves a favor and if you must have hibatchi-try Joto’s in Brandon or anywhere other than this place. We won’t ever go there again.

We went to Mt. Fuji for lunch. We opted for the hibachi grill instead of the buffet. Upon being seated we were asked what we would like to drink and if we would like soup or salad. I had a heck of a time understanding what my soup choices were, so I chose the salad. It was swimming in a sea of dressing upon arrival. I think this foreshadowed the meal to come… I ordered the chicken hibachi and my husband ordered the steak. The meal was served with fried rice and veggies. The fried rice needed some serious flavor, so I dumped my ginger sauce on it… then I had soggy, flavorless fried rice… great. The chicken also lacked flavor — it’s a good thing we had more sauce at this time… i poured another dish of sauce on my chicken… and yet another on the veggies. Same story about the steak… I would only recommend Mt. Fuji for lunch as their dinner prices seemed much to high for the flavorless food.

We had the lunch buffet. The hot dishes on the buffet seemed like institutional food — flavorless, greasy and unappealing. Also, who has heard of having lasagna on a Chinese buffet? The sushi buffet was passable but nothing special.

I was disappointed. Hot foods not hot, some things seemed to exceed their statute of limitations to be out on the food bars. Higher priced than I like to pay for buffets. In fairness, the local food critic gives it 3.5 stars, and they DO have a large selection of sushi.(I prefer Shingetsu or Sumo Sushi.) I’m not a buffet fan. and beyond sushi, nothing about it appeared Japanese. It’s run by Asians, none of whom are Japanese. It’s other buffet dishes are pretty staunchly Chinese(mushy gravy covered dishes and stir fries). It probably could attract more business by calling itself the Great Wall or Pan-Asian Steakhouse.

After this place opened and I was pummeled with a constant stream of mail advertisements for it, I was actually optimistic about the possibility of a non-scary, non-consistently shutdown by health inspector, Japanese steakhouse existing in Lakeland. Unfortunately, my hopes were too high. My group opted for the hibachi dinner instead of the sushi buffet(mostly because the idea of sushi buffets tends to frighten me). Everyone ordered their filet either medium or medium rare, and it was completely cooked all the way through to nothing less than well done, making it extemely tough to chew. Also, I always thought that the two sauces served at all J steakhouses were pretty uniform, so I don’t know how they messed them up, but they did. The soy-based sauce was extremely salty, to the point that you couldn’t put it on your food without coughing when you took a bite. And the cream-based sauce was thick and lumpy and tasted like straight heavy cream mixed with butter or something. Overall, we are 0 for 2 for decent japanese steakhouses in L-town. I feel badly because I’m sure they are trying hard, but really, to no success thus far.

This is the newest buffet place in Lakeland. And, well… its true… you’ve got to go to Vegas to get good quality buffet. Everything you’ve heard about buffets apply, from the sneeze guard to the skin forming atop overheated food trays. The selection is for non-Asians and everything is breaded and fried dumbing down all our palates. Nothing impressive or good quality. Last and only time I went, a silverfish slivered from the back of my sister’s seat. Hmm… even he was trying to leave. Good luck, man. See you on the outside.
