I read the reviews and I was excited to go visit this place. I generally try to visit the local tackle store for advice and will buy something out of courtesy. The store was reasonably well stocked, which is why the two stars, but the service was just on the edge of rude. I tried to engage the woman cashier, ask questions, but she just wasn’t willing to engage me in any helpful way about fishing. However she did tell me where I could rent a boat(Disneys) which was great, so that is worth an extra star. As I was paying for my worms, I saw all the anti-Obama cartoons on the counter, while I hope that the attitudes behind that didn’t contribute to the poor service, you can’t help but wonder after reading all the other glowing reviews.

Owner Ted is the man! I came in and explained that I hadn’t caught a fish in over 20 years and that my wife and I had a boat rental waiting. Ted took the time out to quickly show me how to tie a palomar knot, gave me an instructional diagram to take with me, and hooked me up with some practical tackle and tips for fishing the lake. The kicker was this, though: Ted hands me his card on the way out and invites me to call him from the boat while out on the lake if I need any additional tips, pointers, etc. Who does that?! I was blown away by the service and conspicuous absence of judgment at my total lack of experience. Any time I hear someone mention that they’re going to Clear Lake, I’m referring them to Ted, STAT. What a great shop!

My husband and I had the pleasure of shopping with Ted and Janine. Yes, I just said the pleasure of shopping. My husband I are not experienced fishermen by any stretch and Ted took the time to make us a couple of lake poles that were perfect for what we wanted to do at a reasonable price. He went even further to string and set the poles up properly and hooked us up with the correct bate and some great fishing tips. You can absolutely tell this family loves what they do and I look forward to coming back to them for future trips.

I brought my 3 grandsons up who were visiting from Utah, they had never been bass fishing. Ted and his wife Jeanine were the best! Ted demo’d how to rig their lines, explained how and where to fish from our boat. Although the lake was extremely algae and moss filled we had no luck, but Tackle It and Ted’s excellent tutoring made it so we had fun trying around the lake! Hats off to the best tackle shop I’ve been too and the GREAT customer service! 5 Stars!

This exactly the kind of place that you want to find if you know nothing about the local fishing scene. My daughter and I came in and were treated really well, given great advice and enjoyed our fishing adventure. Of course, we didn’t catch any fish, but they were AWESOME!

Seriously, Ed is the man. I believe he’s the owner of the joint-but anyway, couldn’t have been more personal. He will sit and talk to you for a good 45min or more giving you tips, and showing you how to do something as basic as tie a knot, or cast your line(with absolutely no sense of frustration, or making you feel stupid) The guy genuinely loves his job/business. Nice shop with all kinds of rods/tackle & you can buy your license 1 or 2 day, or full year right there, it only takes about ten minutes total. Looking for any fishing gear/tips– go see Ed at Tackle it. He has all his teeth too from what I can tell, which is very out of the ordinary for Lakeport, CA.
