Good, healthy food at reasonable prices. What more can you ask for?

FYI… This place is now OUTOFBUSINESS. Again… Been a long run of hits and misses with both service and food, in at least three different locations that I’m aware of. Hopefully something better will move here.

Tasty eggs and potatoes. Waffles were excellent. GF waffles really good, too. Staff friendly.

The food quality here is pretty good actually the meat used for the burger was excellent but the overall presentation was pretty weak. I got a patty on a bun with some ground mustard and 3 little pieces of lettuce. And a cup of navy bean soup that was also decent but I paid over $ 56 dollars for this another burger and some soup and salad. I wouldn’t tell anyone to not eat here because the food is ok but I probably won’t return due to overall experience and cost.

The omelets are the best I’ve ever had. Seriously good, no great. And their smoothies are really good and healthy. Croissants are delicious and light and fluffy.

The staff are quite friendly, and the selection is OK. But, the kitchen seems to prep orders pretty slow. It recently changed owners and the quantity of food I got on my favorite dishes was decreased. So, I have not been back in a while. I am hoping they have a change or heart about quantity and timeliness.

I gave this joint another shot because it is right by my place! I want it to be so good because it hits on some key factors of a great breakfast spot… but it didn’t happen… again. I was in the mood for a waffle and bacon. It isn’t a typical urge, but it was present today. I rolled in and ordered a large dark roast, and a blueberry waffle with bacon. I was asked«Whipcream or butter?» I asked for Whip. Pretty excited for it at this point… find a spot to sit, table covered in syrup… go to another table, covered in syrup. Had to put down napkins to protect my Macbook, sleeves, etc. No big deal… but annoying. Waffle comes out… no whip cream… no blueberries… HUGE clump of butter. Since I was engrossed in work, I just decided to eat it. The waffle was VERY tasty… butter was overwhelming, and syrup was okay. I will say that they put crack in the bacon here… and I was loving it… every bit of it… BOOMGONE! ate it all. Not sure where the disconnect is here… but there are clearly some inefficiencies between the front of the house, and back of the house. It is always just one very friendly guy at the front, but both times I’ve been here there have been upset, anxious customers. I’m sad to say I’ll probably be back just because it is convenient, but I know this place can do a lot better… and why is the wall menu 2,348 feet high on the wall?!?

Java Dive, oh Java Dive. How I want to love you, to enjoy your many gluten free options without a second thought. Since you’re about a 5 minute drive from my house, I end up here once a week or so. Usually the food is pretty good, especially for healthier options in this side of town. I’ve had some off times, though, and today was one of them. The husband decided to grab some JD take out on his way back home from running errands. He ordered a burger for himself and a salmon burger with a gluten free bun for me. When he returned home with our food, I dove into it. I have ordered the salmon burger at least 3 times before, and I always enjoyed it and walked away full. This time was different. For one, the salmon was cold. Not cooked ATALL. It was still pink and slimy as if they let it thaw from the deep freeze on their grill for a whole minute before serving it up to me on a nice gluten free bun. When I bit into it, I was appalled. Cold, slimy fish. I don’t know how a cook can blatantly make a mistake like serving a patron raw fish. Under no circumstance should it even be near-raw for a salmon burger. This isn’t sushi grade salmon, either, so I have a stomach ache to blame on this bad boy. Needless to say, after inspecting the burger and realizing there was no way to «send it back to the kitchen», I fixed the problem myself by nuking it in the oven for a good 15 minutes until it was cooked all the way through. My husband ordered the burger. I asked him how his meal was while I waited hungrily by the stove for my salmon to finish cooking. «Okay,» he said, «really overcooked… if you ask me.» So yeah. $ 26-ish bucks later and you have a very overcooked hamburger and a very raw salmon burger. This might be a one-off, but I have had other suspicions that the cooks don’t know what they are doing back there. Last week for lunch I popped in for a lunch break, and ordered a bowl of their spinach and mushroom soup on the side of my meal. I have never tasted a more bland soup in my life. Imagine hot water with spinach and mushrooms floating it in. No spices, so pizzazz, and not even a touch of salt, it seemed! Maybe the cooks need to taste their food more often to make sure it’s at least edible. I love the owner of this place but when you’re shelling out that much money for a quick lunch at a café, something has to be good. Sadly, I am going to have a hard time ordering now, knowing that whatever I pick might come out raw or be utterly flavorless. I feel mean writing this, but it needed to be said.

Looking for a place to take my ultra-healthy-eating sister and mom, I found this place on Unilocal. We were delighted at the selection of drinks and food. Everyone found something they loved and my gyro was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. My mom and sister even ate their cookies. I plan to come back here many times. Also, the staff was super friendly and even though we came in at 1:30pm, they were sweet about letting us hang out for a while after closing. We didn’t realize they closed at 2pm, or we would have hurried. That’s great customer service. We’ll definitely be back, but next time earlier.

This has become my favorite restaurant in Austin. Always looking for Gluten-free alternatives, this place has the widest variety of any place I’ve been in Austin. From burgers to waffles you can get it gluten free! Some of my favorites are the middle eastern salad with is garnished with fresh hummus, olives, cucumbers, olives and tomatoes; the gluten free pecan waffles are great as well. The chicken pablano sandwich is great as well! The frappé coffee drinks are amazing! Hard to go to Starbucks after having one of these. You can pretty much close your eyes and point atny where on the menu and you’ll get something that tastes delicious! They started doing brisket dishes recently, and I tried the Brisket omelet. Omg! So good! Also, their gluten free desserts are no slouches either! Java Dive is great, I can’t recommend it enough for Organic food lovers and/or gluten free folks!

Whenever I visit my parents on Lake Travis, I am faced with limited breakfast options if I want to go out. So, when I heard about this place, I was pretty happy. I am used to being assaulted with organic, gluten-free, eco-friendly food in Seattle, so I didn’t go here for any of those reasons. For me, it was simple convenience. The food was good. It was Sunday brunch, and I was delighted to get a full spread with waffles and bacon and eggs. They use real maple syrup, which is a big thumbs up. The staff was very friendly. People seemed to genuinely care about our experience. We were even asked if we had been in before, as they didn’t recognize our faces. I will gladly be back, even if I can’t get back to Austin nearly as much as I would like to!

Have you inadvertently stumbled from the bosom of Austin into the strip mall hell of Lakeway? Perhaps you were lured by the promise of cheap mass-produced consumer goods, or maybe the beating of the sun made you take a wrong turn at Hippy Hollow. Fear not, for there is caffeine solace at the refuge that is Java Dive. Organo groovy baked goods from a business that gives a damn will remind that perhaps, you aren’t that far from Austin after all. The food is excellent. I always eat vegan when with my companion on this trip, and she got a black bean wrap while I got a hummus wrap, both on a «southwestern» tortilla. Both were fantastic. My companion’s latte made with almond milk was smooth and creamy with a wonderful roast flavor. I’m not even normally a coffee guy, but I loved the taste I had and she was really diggin’ it. I found the staff really friendly — much more like the people I encounter in Austin proper than most of the McJobbies in Lakeway. Roni, the proprietor, is a very personable guy who obviously really values his customers and likes to get to know them. He cares about the food — he started Java Dive in part because of his own gluten sensitivity. You might not find tie-died murals on the walls or statues of Austin’s greatest music legends, but you will find Java Dive to be the kind of business that makes living in Austin such a worthwhile experience. If Lakeway is part of the problem, then Java Dive is part of the solution.

I was taken to this little dive restaurant after a weekend of bachelorette debauchery. It started off poorly because I was expecting to go to Moonshine. I guess that set my expectations to at least 4 stars. Where did this go wrong? We were never greeted or acknowledged, so that was fun. We went up to the front and ordered some drinks. Once I finally received my water, it was not very well filtered. It had that… all too Del Valle taste to it for a place in Lakeway. If you don’t wants eggs or waffles, their Sunday brunch menu leaves you fairly hungry. None of it sounded appetizing, honestly. Luckily, they allowed me to order off their lunch menu. I tried a couple Mediterranean options including their pita and hummus and a chicken tikka style dish, but labeled something else.(Sadly, I can’t recall and they don’t have it on their current menu.) Both were entirely lackluster. I had heard they had an accomplished chef, specifically for that style cuisine — well, either they lied or the chef can’t even put together a simple hummus. Either way, really disappointed in the food. Let me tell you, they do not work hard to get you your subpar food in a timely manner. Now, I don’t want rushed or pre-fab food. But my friends breakfast tacos just don’t take 30 minutes. Sorry. Especially when the restaurant isn’t very packed. After the food was terrible, I thought — this place is truly a drink café. Let me try their chai latte. That’s the only drink I ever get at a coffee shop — because I dislike coffee! Well, once they finally remembered my drink — not only was it cold, but it was TERRIBLE. I specifically asked that it be made SANS water. I wanted a «chai soy latte no water». Not difficult. They even said they NEVER make their latte with water. Well, they lied. Chai has an odd aftertaste when blended with water instead of 100% soy or milk. A good palate will always be able to discern if a place puts water in their latte. Why, oh why Jave DIVE did you put water in my latte? After such a subpar meal, I was hoping to be able to give you at least two stars for a tasty drink. Will I ever go back to Java Dive? No. Did I want to like Java Dive? Yes, I love restaurants that cater to my gluten-free, veggie-only friends. I think it’s wise in this day and age to expand your menu to encompass more individuals. But, Java Dive is not the place for you, my friends. I can’t recommend it to anyone. It’s a shame, too. It had so much potential. Unfortunately, the«Dive» in the name of the restaurant is just sadly ironic now.

The whole operation is a little bit scatter brained if you ask me. There isn’t much on the wall, things are cluttered around, the menu is way up high to the right and I don’t seem to recall any music playing or anything like that. It could benefit from being made a little more hang out friendly. The staff is nice but it always seems like I wait a long time. $ 10 for a few breakfast tacos is too much. Yeah, it is organic but come on? I could get 5 breakfast tacos for $ 10 from that dude in the cart down the street. My wife ordered a hot chai tea once, she got it cold, asked for it hot and there it went… into the microwave. I get americano and it ends up being pretty watery. The weirdest thing is that they opened up another location a mile down the highway. I could understand that if they closed this location, but it just seems odd to have two open when Starbucks couldn’t even make it work. They have a golden opportunity out here with Dunkin Donuts gone and one of the Starbucks gone. It would be pretty easy to make this operation better.

This is one of the first places we tried after arriving in Austin. After a drive up 2222 and eating at Java Dive we knew we had picked a great city to live in. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered a pizza and the boyfriend ordered some sort of wrap and a soup. It was all very good and the prices were fair. They have an extensive menu and a full bakery case of goodies as well. I wouldn’t say that its necessarily worth the drive from downtown Austin, as I’m sure there are similar options downtown. But if you happen to be in the area, its definitely worth stopping by and checking it out.

Lakeway legend has it that the Fairy Godmother of Gluten Free Food blessed this restaurant with some amazing recipes and goodies. My hubby and I took a Sunday morning drive in the beautiful spring weather and stopped here for brunch. I had a delicious egg, cheese, spinach and tomato panini on GF bread. The bread is smaller than regular bread so be aware that you will get a smallish panini. We shared an organic strawberry, banana and apple juice smoothie. It was tasty but I thought a little pricey for the size. And the husband gave a two thumbs up for the egg and cheese bagel sandwich. The bakery case is filled with GF items. I brought home a beautifully decorated gingerbread girl(sweet and gingery but a little too firm and crisp) and a cranberry walnut biscotti(too crumbly but with a good flavor). The chocolate torte looked wonderful but I will save that for another time. Anything on the menu can be made gluten free which includes wraps, sandwiches and pizza. The employees are careful enough to have a dedicated GF waffle iron for their brunch waffles.

This«hole in the wall» dive serves up some amazing all organic food and coffee. When I lived in Lakeway I ate here at least once a week. On a recent visit I found out they are moving down the street and will be tripling their size and adding dinner service and live music in September and expanding their already awesome menu! Why the full 5 stars for a dive? Well let me tell you: 1. Gluten Free — tortillas, breads, bagels and pizza 2. Organic — coffee, breads and vegetables 3. Nitrate, Hormone and Perservative free lunch meat 4. Hormone free Grain fed Free Range Eggs 5. Butt sniffer friendly In their current location they serve Breakfast and Lunch and a large selection of Coffee and Tea Specialty drinks with choice of Organic Whole Milk, Fat Free Milk, Soy or Rice Milk. For lunch I highly reccomend the HUGE Spinach, Onion, Artichoke Hummus Wrap that is big enough to split with a friend or, the Gyro Wrap with organic greens, lamb and hummus wrapped in a Greek Flat Bread!!!
