CertaPro Painters of Lower Makefield

The exterior painting of our house was a disaster from start to finish and I fear that we have waited too long to complain. To begin, the scraping and filling in was incredibly sloppy and we had to demand additional coats of paint to try to get it looking half decent. Unfortunately «duration» paint is a joke unless the duration is measured in weeks. There was and is significant peeling in some places that showed up almost immediately. My conclusion is the primer was not the correct one since paint doesn’t seem to adhere to it. I have so far placed three calls to Sean and guess how many he has returned? Hint: less than 1. I guess our only recourse will be to put our experiences in as many places online as possible and to tell everyone we know not to use Certa «Pro» painters. I guess we can see what Sherwin Williams has to say for itself too. How much do you want to bet I will be reprinting my house three years after Certa Pro did?

I would give them 0 if I could. Sean is extremely dishonest, dismissive, and unprofessional. Please don’t buy his slick marketing. He has no idea what he’s doing, and he completely ignores his sub-​contractors once the job starts.
We bought the sales pitch and hired them to use Sherwin Williams Duration self-​priming exterior paint.
ANY REPUTABLE PAINTER WILL TELL YOU THAT SHERWIN WILLIAMS DURATION IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR CEDAR. YOU MUST MUST MUST USE OIL-​BASED PRIMER ON CEDAR, NO MATTER WHAT PAINT YOU USE.
We were unhappy with CertaPro almost immediately, because as soon as they started painting, they called to say we needed more coats. Obviously that was either a blatant ploy to make an extra $ 2 Grand, or they don’t know how to paint. I think it was a combination. Our house looked green (though it had been off-​white going to yellow), and we discovered later the green tinge was from the cedar oils. AGAIN YOU MUST USE OIL-​BASED PRIMER. CertaPro never told us that, nor did Sherwin Williams, and incredibly, they didn’t even seem to know it. Additionally, they didn’t know how to paint shingles at all — there were huge gaps where they didn’t paint all around the shingle.
In expressing to Sean how bad his subcontractors were and how hard it was to communicate with them and what we wanted fixed, he criticized us! He also got into a heated argument with me about how my house was originally green!!! I have pictures to prove, in its 80-​year existence, it has NEVER been green. Even if it had, there is no excuse for someone who is supposed to be a professional starting an immature, hissy-​fit argument with me.
So much for the 2-​year warranty with CertaPro and the lifetime warranty with Sherwin Williams. We are constantly put off by Sean, who always seems to be on vacation. Neither will honor their warranties, despite the fact that our house started peeling immediately, and has been extremely bad since less than 6 months after the paint job in October 2009. It now looks just as bad as it did before we painted it, but we’re out almost $ 6,000. with nothing to show for it.
I will tell everyone I know how horrible CertaPro and Sean are, and how awful Sherwin Williams paint is. Sherwin Williams should have to have a disclaimer for cedar. I would love to do a class-​action lawsuit, so if you have this problem, contact me!
