The food was pretty good. Then again I took three children there to eat egg rolls. You can’t really mess that up. However, the waitress has the personality of paste and any request seemed to annoy her.

I have eaten lunch at Char Koon three times over the past two years, but never been there for dinner. While the restaurant is family run, pleasantly appointed, and has a diverse menu covering Chinese, Thai and Japanese entries, including Sushi, the impression is that it is really a Chinese American joint that offers the other cuisines, but does not do a good job with them. It all tastes«Chinese» and lacks the distinguishing flavors and uniqueness to be found in places that really understand the national dishes of the countries presented, and employees a kitchen that appreciates how the preparations differ. I have tried the Pad Thai, General Tsao’s and other Chicken dishes, Soups, and egg rolls. They are all decent, but can be found in better form elsewhere. If you find yourself in Langhorne wanting Asian food, there are few alternatives. You could do worse, but then again, it would probably be better to go across the parking lot to Brothers for pizza, and save your Asian urges for geographic areas with greater Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, or Korean populations. The prices are very good for lunch($ 6.00 — $ 8.00 for combo lunches including soup, rice and tea), and the quantities are large enough to fill you up. It is difficult to get excited by Char Koon. Perhaps, their dinners are better.

I wasn’t that impressed. I went to this restaurant after reading all of these rave reviews, and what I found was a very generic Asian food restaurant. Went for lunch and the waitress was the opposite of welcoming, short, and borderline rude. The egg drop soup was good, crab Rangoon had a SUPER SMALL-if any-amount of crab in them. Mostly just cream cheese. I had the ginger chicken with string beans, it was good. But again, generic. My fiancé had a Thai plate, and he said it was okay. Good quality Asian food is that’s what you are looking for, but don’t expect anything amazing…

This is not just another small dine in or take out Asian restaurant, in fact this one is way over the top! Char Koon is a very small, yet very inviting restaurant nestled inside the Pine Watson shopping center. The colorful blue lights twinkle like stars on the ceiling, the tables are spread enough to offer an intimate dining experience and the dining area is immaculate. Anytime I dine in or take out from an Asian restaurant I zero in on exactly what I like and want, but the choices here are so different than any I have encountered in the past. Such a vast array of dishes from the South East Asian corner and beyond. Everything is here that you will expect to find on the menu like satay’s, tofu dishes, amazing sushi rolls, curries, pad Thai, Cantonese, Szechuan plus the usual rice and noodle dishes and veggie sides. After dining here I profess to know very little about Asian cuisine, the more I dine here or take out the more I will learn! Even though I wanted some of my favorites, the unusual dishes were screaming at me to give them a try and so I did. They have well over thirty sushi rolls, but how can you pass up trying a Hairy Mexican roll, filled with fried shrimp, avocado and a spicy sauce, then topped with crab meat and an eel sauce? The green caterpillar roll was just as wonderful with sliced avocado, eel and cream cheese, I would order both again in a heartbeat. I like how they have so many different noodles like angel hair, rice noodles including fettuchini, lo mein and they offer many variations of fried rice and my choice was the pineapple and it was delicious. The Ipoh combination of stir fried rice noodles and lo mein noodles with shrimp and peppers in a spicy Sambal sauce had a lovely kick to it and was a nice sized dish for being a lunch portion. They have at least a dozen lunch specials for $ 5.50 which includes your choice of soup and fried or white rice. We go wild when ordering Asian food as we both love it and the leftovers are always a nice treat. We decided to share the luncheon portion of the orchid crispy shrimp with melon and a fruit glaze, my heavens is this stuff good, I had to remind hubby that we had more food coming and we wanted leftovers! Well leftovers we had indeed and barely touched the Babi Touzi with tender pork loin, ginger and black beans in a pepper sauce, served over snow peas, carrots and zucchini, how do they think up these amazing dishes, where have I been? It took everything I had not to order the Pad Thai and I assure you I will in the near future, I was torn between two shrimp and scallop dishes, one with a Mala sauce that I have never tried, but opted for the Charkoon special with asparagus, peppers, snow peas in a red pepper Thai basil sauce, I had heaven on my plate in the form of a spicy, bad ass angel! Not sure how I will move on from this dish, it was totally awesome. Love this place, I do, I do! BYOB.
