Love the loaded baked potato, with brisket! I’ve also had with pulled pork and chicken. The potato is huge(two meals for me) and the staff are always friendly.

We’d enjoyed various items from their menu and multiple events. They’re catering is great! My first introduction to their food was a chicken salad sandwich… and I was so impressed! Since then we’ve had beef brisket(my FAVORITE!), pulled pork and sausages… all fantastic! So thankful for this wonderful place!

My family had been here a few times and mostly had a positive experience. We had them at a event we were at and loved the food. We even had them cater a baby baptism and they went above and beyond! My problem is the last time I went… My wife and I decided to have a Super Bowl party and we pre ordered 3 pounds of pulled pork and 1 pound of slaw.(Small party) On Saturday night we came in to pickup our order and to eat dinner. First, they were out of everything except pulled pork and chicken. I really wanted ribs or brisket. Oh well… We’re not picky. I went to pick up my catered order that I made a week ago they seemed surprised and they didn’t have any slaw to give me. What angers me is that they didn’t try to make it better. I would’ve took a discount on my catered order but wasn’t offered anything. I wish I could’ve gave them 3 stars but it was just to hard to do that. If you make an order over a week ago I expect it to be right. It’s just bad business. What if that would’ve happen if that happened for the baby baptism when I had 30 people over? Ona side note, we watched about 20 people come in and leave because they were out of food. It will be hard for me to come back. I am very disappointed and now I am going to checkout Saddle Back.

perhaps this was an off day, but they were out of mac, brisket, and corn bread. had a pulled pork sandwich, kind of on the dry side no real bark or much smoke flavor. commercial bun, nothing to write home about. the cole slaw was mayo based and not over dressed, not bad. the baked beans were similar to canned beans. 2 commercial Kansas City BBQ sauces to choose from. The fountain machine wasn’t working properly, and the dining room didn’t have any heat on. 9.50 for sub par offerings in a sub par environment. i’ll probably give them another shot when the weather warms up a bit.

At first glance, this place doesn’t look like much. It’s a little worn down and a bit out of the way. We were pleasantly surprised with just how really great their food is! I had the sliced chicken, and my husband had the steak. Both meats were tender and very very tasty! The prices are more than reasonable, and the service is friendly. Will definitely need to come back again!

I’ve been to this place maybe 25 times since it opened and thought they have had enough time to get their feet under them to give a review. I would love to give them five stars, but can’t. The meat is the best BBQ in town, hands down. The prices are great compared to other BBQ in town. The people are friendly and helpful and service is fast. The issues I have with this place are the sides. They are terrible. The baked beans, which are a staple of a BBQ place are obviously straight from a can. If they are homemade, they figured out a way to suck the love out of them. The other sides are flavorless. Good selection of sauces, but I agree with other reviews that they should make their own sauce. These guys know what they are doing with BBQ, but please fix the sides!!!

Very good bbq and reasonable prices sums up King of the Grill. The brisket and pulled pork are my two of my favorites, the sides are decent(mac and cheese is fairly bland though). It’s not the sides that draw me to this place… its that great, slow smoky goodness that brings me back time and time again. This isn’t one of those trendy bbq places that has a bunch of unique side dishes, it has more of a traditional home-cooked bbq vibe. The portions are good size and the prices are very reasonable. Service has always been good, food always hot. There have been a couple times when the brisket has been a little tougher than usual, but I’ve eaten here a LOT and that is few and far between. Overall, this is one of my favorite BBQ places in west Michigan.

We’ve tried King Of The Grill a few times now and were confident enough in them to have them provide food for a recent party. We got 25 pounds of both beef brisket and pulled pork and both were very good as expected. Several people asked us where we got the food and we were happy to tell them. The restaurant had at least 6 other big orders the day of our party and they had no trouble at all with our order. Their food is not only good but it’s very reasonably priced! You really can’t go wrong with King Of The Grill if you like great BBQ.

I’ve been to King Of The Grill twice. The first time was in November 2014. The place was clean but the briskett was dry and really fatty. I wasn’t really impressed. But, I decided to try it again to see if maybe I just went on an off day for briskett. I went again a few days ago and the place was very NOTCLEAN. Not one table was cleaned off, the bottom of the trays were very greasy so much so that I had to wash the grease off my hands BEFORE I sat down to eat. Very disappointing. I chose to try the briskett again — bad choice because it was very dry again. i tasted someone else’s pork and that was tasty but not seasoned in any way. The macaroni and cheese was not good at all because the noodles were VERY overcooked. The cheesy potatoes were okay. I don’t think I will CHOOSE to go here again.

Stopped in for lunch today. Had been here once before several years ago, and while not impressed the first time i thought I’d give them another try. Menu is extremely limited, but I went straight for the brisket platter, only to be informed rather tersely that they had no brisket today. So I switched to a pulled pork sandwich with mac-n-cheese as a side. What I got was sliced(not pulled) pork on the cheapest bun possible on a greasy paper plate with a runny, faintly yellowish pile of what I can only presume to be the mac-n-cheese. When asked if I wanted anything to drink, I asked for ice water. I was then informed that they had no ice. SERIOUSLY — THEYHADNOICE. I said«Well, I guess I’ll just have water then,» and received a 6oz Styrofoam coffee cup. I then took my soiled tray and stepped over to the beverage and condiment center, I filled my Styrofoam cup with 6oz of warm water only to subsequently discover that it was carbonated water. For sauces, they feature your choice of Sweet Baby Ray’s or K.C. Masterpiece purchased by the gallon from Sam’s Club. I was provided a generous portion of the sliced(not pulled) pork and it was OK — no real flavor and too much fat to be served on a sandwich, but it was edible at least. The bun wasn’t even McDonald’s quality so I tossed it to the side. The sauce was as you’d expect from a 1 gallon dispenser purchased at Sam’s Club. The mac-n-cheese was probably the most bland yet most disgusting thing I have had the opportunity to «taste» in quite some time. Just awful. Truly awful. My experience was then rounded out with trying to dump the remains of my «meal» into a trash can designed for outdoor use with a dirty lid that requires contact with your hand and which had not been washed in, um, forever. Suffice it to say that i will not be back.

Fantastic every time. I literally eat tons of BBQ per year. Of course that poses a problem living in the Lansing area. When my buddy told me about this place I was skeptical, so I tried it. Man, the meats were actually smoked correctly, flavorful, fresh, ect. Granted, some in Lansing don’t understand the ambiance, but when traveling the South you’ll understand this is actually upscale BBQ. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is because the sides are quite flavorless, not bad though. Oh… And it’s extremely reasonably priced, with large portions.

I heard good things about their catering so we tried the restaurant. It’s inside an old fast food restaurant so you order, they slop the food on your styrofoam plate and then you go sit at your greasy table with your greasy tray and your food. I noticed lots of flies flying around after we were seated. The meats are moist but flavorless. The sides I had were terrible. My Mac & cheese was so over cooked I couldn’t even poke it with my fork and get it to stay on without it falling apart. Also no flavor. The potato salad may have been the store bought kind and was a little soupy. The green beans and baked beans looked they were straight from the can so I passed. It was a terrible experience and there were no child portions. I will not return nor recommend.

Excellent service! The BBQ is some of the best I’ve had. That includes the local joints and traveling through the deep south for a year as well. Try the Brisket… I’m getting hungry typing this.

I like this place about 50% of the time. I think they often rush the food out and the quality suffers. The sides are consistently mediocre and the mac & cheese is worse than store bought. The cheesy potatoes are usually solid. Today they had to get out a knife to cut up the«pulled» pork. It was tough and obviously cooked at too high a temperature. I also heard one of the employees tell another customer that they were really busy and that they cooked the brisket as fast as humanly possible. That’s not something I want to hear at a BBQ joint. Everything I had today was subpar and most ended up in the trash. It still gets 3 stars because I’ve had some really solid meals here, the one that prompted this review however, was about the worst BBQ I’ve ever had. Edit: To the management, just tell people you’re out of stuff unless you’re sure what you’re serving is solid. I’ll be back, but I’m going to ask to try everything from now on. You’re food is really good around lunch, not usually so much around dinner.

Where do I start… If youre looking for great BBQ at a solid price, STOPSEARCHING!!! I love BBQ. I do. I think if I were to request a last meal BBQ would be it for sure or a really nice steak, maybe both. I called KOTG because I was looking for a place to feed a college mens lacrosse team on the cheap. Being the responsible Unilocaler I turned to Unilocal and found this gem! They were able to get 29 of us in and had enough food for us and even made extra sides to make sure we would all be full. This place is what the reviews say… sketchyish. Old Burger King, on a pretty empty/not so great part of town(i’m assuming since I am from out of town) and the parking situation was not the greatest for a large charter bus. The head coach was not pleased that I and the other assistant coach chose this place because of the location and it being an old Burger King, but I assured him the best BBQ is usually in run down areas. Holy Shit were we right! I had the pulled pork and brisket, both were mouth watering and very tender and my plate was overflowing with juices coming off the perfectly cooked meat. My 2 sides of mac and cheese and beans were just as tasty. The only down side, they didn’t have their own BBQ sauce, or at least I couldnt find it, they did have Sweet Baby Rays and some other I didn’t know. I understand in the BBQ circles, it is either praised or frowned upon as the meat should be able to stand on its own and doesn’t need any sauce. I believe that any BBQ should have sauce to compliment it but not to overpower it. The staff was also very nice and patient with the kids on the team. They couldn’t have been nicer! Without a doubt this place is worth the trip!

It could not be a less promising location. On the entrance road to the airport. .. a former Burger King. .. across the street from a liquor mart. If you venture in, it’s immaculate, with incredibly friendly staff. It’s not remotely high-gloss; food is served in styrofoam, and the sauces are in jugs with the plastic silverware. But, it seems to fit. The lunch crowd is heavily loaded with National Guard folks(who I like anyways), airport staff, and engineers from the firms around the airport. The food is very tasty. They offer smoked brisket, pulled pork, and flank steak; ribs and chicken(braised). Pleasant smoke, done in their own ovens. It’s a little sad that they don’t have their own sauce, but can’t win it all, eh? Sides are OK, I’d endorse the corn bread. On the whole, a great lunch spot. Tasty, friendly, unpretentious, and relatively cheap. And quick.

King of the Grill is probably the best choice in the Lansing area for«real» barbecue food, however that does not mean it’s incredible, authentic, or consistent. For the most part, though, King of the Grill brings something different to otherwise barebones North Lansing, and the service is ALWAYS super friendly, conversational, and caring about their food — this includes fresh preperation and cooking daily. The meals are extremely affordable and you get a lot of grub for your buck, but don’t expect gourmet — the meals come in styrofoam containers which suit the style of the restaurant well. Their pulled pork is my favorite meat of choice, but I do not recommend their brisket — which is usually a bit hard and burnt. For sides, stick with their cornbread(not too sweet!) and mac n’ cheese. I dislike their baked beans which normally are my favorite because of the portion of onion KotG includes with them and their cheesy potatoes are almost terrible and often a bit cold. Like some of the other Unilocalers have said, one of the biggest improvements they can make is to create their own BBQ sauce! They have two tubs of great sauces to choose from, but I also have them in my fridge at home. I’d suggest something with a vinegar base! Bottom line: KotG is great for something different and don’t want to spend like craycray, but this is NOT close to the best barbecue you will ever taste.
