Great atmosphere! The food was ok, not great. We ate the Hawaiian pizza, which came out in good time. The beers were pretty good. I had the stout from the cask. Will go back simply because of the atmosphere.

Practically speaking, Lansing(including East Lansing) has just four brewpubs: Lansing Brewing, Midtown Brewing, Ellison, and Eaglemonk. There is also Sleepwalker, but since they seem to only offer growler fills at the market for very limited hours twice a week, they don’t belong in the same discussion as consumer-facing brewpubs with seating and beer flights. Within this admittedly limited pool of competition, Eaglemonk is by far the best, both in terms of the product offered and the service. On my Saturday visit, there were a dozen beers available, as well as one cider and one mead. Of the dozen beers, two of them(Olde English(their winter warmer) and British Dark Mild Ale) were offered on both regular draught and cask. A flight of beer, which consists of 8 beers of your choosing in 5 oz pours, is an incredibly affordable $ 9. I inquired as to whether there were any offerings on tap excluded from it, and was told that it was limited to the beer(meaning the cider and mead were not offered) and that higher gravity pours(like the Instigator Doppelbock) would be half pour sized. These are very reasonable conditions to impose. As I was selecting the eight beers for my flight, the bartender kindly offered me a couple of ounces of the mead to try. When drinking the British Dark Mild Ale on my flight, which by the way I give them ample credit for attempting this underappreciated style, he offered me a couple of ounces of the same beer on cask so that I could appreciate the difference that carbonation and temperature variation played on the beer. Towards the end of my flight, having not ordered what he considered their best beer, the Tart Cherry Michigan White, he poured me a couple of ounces to try. Once I finished my flight, I asked him whether he thought their cider(a perry, but made from concentrate instead of with real pears) was worth ordering, and he handed me a couple of ounces to try. This is a brewery with service that went far above and beyond perhaps any drinking establishment I’ve ever patronized. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable, and did an admirable job of servicing the entire bar, since the only other staff on duty were in the kitchen. All told, I sampled 9 beers, 1 cider, and 1 mead, and amazingly, not a single one was bad. That may not seem notable, but it is. Almost never do I sample that number of beers from a brewery, even ones as well regarded as Bell’s and Founders, without finding at least one dud. Now, I will say that unlike the aforementioned breweries, nothing they make is world class. But at least two of their beers, the Raven Black IPA and the Red Eye Rye, are legitimately good enough to distribute in the competitive Michigan beer market. And the remaining ranged from slightly below average to slightly above, with far more being above average than below. I don’t make it to Lansing all that often, but schedule permitting, Eaglemonk will be a regular stop when I do.

Its been 3 years since my last review on EM and I have to say that they have perfected their pizza! Its sooooo good. I recommend the bartender special — The beer was/is great ! Dan and Sonja are really nice people who run/own this place and they do a wonderful job hiring a great staff. Josh is my fav bartender. On Tuesday’s the pizza is sold at discount — The pizza is unique and once you try it you will often crave it. The crust is homemade and delicious. Love this place. Cheers!

If I’m craving pizza and beer, then I would return to this place. Beer: good selection of in-house brews. Pizza: dough is tasty and made in house, I expected selection of pre-established toppings. The pizza was well cooked. I felt like the toppings could be a bit higher quality though. This didn’t make the pizza bad, this is just my personal preference. Salad: poorly done. The Greens consisted more of the white pieces of lettuce, which to me is the equivalent of eating ice — what’s the point? Desserts: we had both of the frozen pies, the peanut butter and the German chocolate, along with a scoop of the vanilla ice cream. These were all tasty and according to the staff made in-house. The peanut butter pie have a chocolate crossed. The German chocolate pie and a graham cracker crust. I wouldn’t talk either of them out of bed. Good job. Staff: friendly and professional. They were always ready to please. Good job. Ambiance: the room is small so if the place is full then the noise levels can get loud, and there is nothing on the walls to dampen the noise.

Went in tonight to try their craft beer made on-site. IPA and porter were both tasty and filled to the top. Bar staff were very cordial. Will be back with empty growlers to take home. Nachos and artichoke dip were great, too!

Amazing locally owned micro brewery. Parking is an issue, because the place is very small, but the beer, the pizza and the atmosphere are all great! Check this place out.

I like this place because it feels a little bit like a cabin in the woods. The beer and pizza were good, but just not above average. You order at the counter, and they have a decent selection of beer, pizza, some salads and appetizers. The staff was friendly and knowledgable, especially Linda. The mug club seemed very popular, with cool ceramic, hand made mugs, by local artists. It’s comfortable and friendly, and a good place to grab a beer and pizza, but just not quite the destination other brew-pubs command.

With the growing number of microbreweries in the Lansing area, EagleMonk remains at the top of my list. The beers they brew remain my favorite, and the atmosphere is very casual. They have the most reasonable mug club membership around, and make a tasty flatbread pizza. This is a very casual atmosphere, where you can go to catch the MSU game, play a hand of cards, or simply catch up with friends.

While passing through Lansing, my wife and I wanted to visit one of the new breweries that have sprung up there in the 15 years since we left. After investigating a few online, Eagle Monk was the pick, partly because of its humble, off the beaten path setting. It seems the best breweries often begin in the unlikeliest spaces. Eagle Monk occupies a compact, low-slung brick box on Lansing’s industrial fringe. Inside you’ve got plain walls that could use a coat of paint, a concrete floor covered by fading green paint, vinyl upholstered chairs(a few torn and duct-taped) and laminated tables such as you might find in a cheap diner. I find that sort of thing appealing – others may not, but remember, this is a brewery. If you came for the atmosphere(as opposed to the beer), you’re missing the point.(or…the pint?) We started with a sample flight – 8 beers for 9 bucks, which is a great deal as these things go. And of course it lets you sample most of the tap roster. Out of those 8, we liked the pilsner, Marcy stout, ESB, Red Eye rye, and Winter Warmer best. If I returned, it would probably be for a pint of that last – full bodied and mellow, but with whiskey notes and a pronounced oakiness from bourbon barrel aging. When I first lifted the glass and caught the aroma, I had to check to make sure I had a beer in my hand and not a glass of bold, tannin-rich red wine. The IPAs, regular and dark, were a bit of a letdown. Surprisingly little hop flavor for the style, and with a quasi-soapy aftertaste. We both got a pint of the ESB to accompany the veggie pizza we ordered for lunch, which itself was pretty tasty. Thin, very crisp crust, tangy housemade sauce, with enough cheese to complement these without overwhelming them. Veggie toppings were a little thin, and I would have paid a couple bucks extra to double them, or some of them. But still a very enjoyable pie. I wouldn’t put Eagle Monk in the top rank of Michigan breweries, but they do make some respectable beers, and unless their drinking pleasure requires a chic and trendy setting, beer lovers won’t regret a stop there.

This is far and away one of the best treasures in the state. It isn’t big and fancy; its honest, lived in, comfortable, and awesome. The food is good, the beer is great, and I never leave without a smile on my face. Dan and Sonia have quite the humble empire here, and I just hope they continue to be hoppy and well; their product shows love and care, which matches who they are. Salud!

EagleMonk has good beer. And beer on cask is a true find in Lansing. I believe the only other place with that offering is The Creole and only very recently. EagleMonks brews are plenty good enough to compete with Lan. Brewing Co, BAD, and MBC. And the ultra small production scale is always fun, since the beer will never quite taste the same in the future(I say that in the best possible way); it’s a nano-brewery. That said, the venue and location are horrible. The bar itself is reminiscent of a truck stop diner. It has shoddy chairs, laminate tables, dirty floors, an ugly bar counter, and exposed register… it’s horribly dated. And it’s simply not convenient for most people in Lansing. It’s off the beaten path in Waverly. If this bar, all things the same, simply existed in old town, or the east town neighborhood it would be a no brainier. I can’t imagine what would keep them on such an underpopulated road in Waverly, but whatever… I’ll try to go again if I ever remember it.

Beers crafted here are excellent, and the food is very tasty. However, if you don’t know ‘the system’ here, service can be a bit confusing for first-timers.

Visiting from Portland Oregon. Beer was decent. Not my favorite but I am particular. Pizza was pretty good. Thin crust with good flavor. Looks like a dive bar from the outside bit that adds to its charm. The ceiling is covered by membership mugs(a Michigan phenomenon?) Small game room with a mini shuffle board and a foosball table. Great for kids.

The key word to describe the EagleMonk brew pub, I think, is «unpretentious». Humility being a monkly virtue and all, that goes well with half their theme. Not the eagle part though. Obviously, eagles are pretty much the second most pretentious birds after swans. No, third. Peacocks. Also, swans are jerks. Anyway, eagles are not jerks. And even if they do go around saying things like«I’m just over here being a fierce raptor with super-powered eyesight, did you hear they made me the national symbol of FREEDOM and COURAGE? Neat, right?», eagles are also apparently great at pizza. This is a nice, unpretentious place to kick back with some beer and pizza. The staff is great, really excited to talk about their brews. I liked one of the three varieties I tried, which is about average for me and beers. It was some sort of red, I think? Anyway, there was a good variety of styles, including some interesting seasonal ones that seem worth returning for when the seasons change. They also have craft soda! Homebrew root beer and orange pop. Listen, people with kids, if you want to get them started right in life, take them home their own growler of root beer. Please make society a better place by teaching your children the important things early. And the pizza is really, really good. Beer, and pizza. Pizza. And beer. How can you go wrong? You can’t. I like this place. It’s good.

Heading from West Michigan to East, we stopped here looking to try some beers and fill up a growler. The service was good, very friendly staff. I ordered a flight to help me decide which beer I would like to get a growler of. The flights are only available as all 9 of their beers. Usually I would be fine with this, but as we were in the middle of a 3 hour drive across the state, the option to just chose 4 or 5 would have been nice. As for the beer, the growlers were $ 12-howlers were $ 6, and I think 5 for the actual glass-pretty average price. Was not a huge fan of the beer, pretty lack luster in taste, but we did manage to find one good enough to take with us. Did not get a chance to try the food, but many of the people there had food and it appeared to be your typical pub style food– sandwiches, pizza, wraps and such.

First off, this place is a little off the beaten path and unless you are paying attention it is easy to drive right by it, although it is painted MSU green. That said, make a point to get to this place if you are in the area. Multiple beers on tap that they brew themselves and all we tried were fantastic. They also have a somewhat limited menu of homemade pizzas and other bar type food and both kinds of pizzas we had were fantastic. It draws both a young college crowd and older adults looking for a great beer and some wonderful food to enjoy while drinking it. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this place for anyone.

Two thumbs up on the beer & I really like the idea of Eagle Monk… but they need to do some re-thinking on the seating, maybe some picnic tables, etc? Right now it’s bingo hall style chairs/tables, not the coziest. Food isn’t the greatest, but it’s a bar so what are ya gonna do? Despite this, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I could def. see it being an excellent summer drinking spot — there’s a small outdoor patio

I didn’t order food so I’m judging purely on beer and atmosphere. I heard they have great food so maybe I’ll come back and try that. I dislike the«pub style» ordering, hence going up to the bar and ordering instead of being waited on. That’s annoying and brings on a weird casual fast food kind of atmosphere. My party of 3 each ordered a beer sampler. I liked some, disliked others as would be expected. All the beer is served at almost room temperature which would be acceptable had we been in Germany at Octoberfest but we aren’t, we are in Michigan in august, and I want cold beer on a 90 degree day so that was a big negative. The atmosphere was lame in that it made the DD of our party want to go to sleep. Weird music playing and a musty smell in the room. Blah. I might give this place another try since it had such good reviews but maybe I’ll have a couple cold ones before my room temp ones.
