House of Ing is a Lansing staple. It endures because it’s great. Their egg rolls are delicious. I’m home for the holidays and I kept my visit old school by having the hot tea and the cashew chicken. I had forgotten about the complimentary relish tray so it was an added delight that brought back fond memories. The corn relish may seem peculiar but it tastes very good. We all left very satisfied.

A mix of Chinese and American, mostly salad bar. Not much to choose from, but what they do have is good. Been there a few times and will go back. The Prime Rib on Friday & Saturday Nights is excellent! Great staff ! What’s with not having Sriracha Sauce though!??

Just got back from the Friday Buffet. Extremely disappointed. The number of entrees was very limited. The prime rib was okay but dry and the crab legs were tough. I’m sorry but there are other options that are less expensive and of higher quality.,

If you think this is good Chinese food, you don’t know Chinese food. Did you know that Sweet and Sour Chicken is a Hawaiian dish? Chow Mein and Chop Suey are San Francisco, Sesame Chicken is New York. With that in mind, House of Ing is just like any Chinese place. It’s not bad, but we aren’t hard-pressed in this town. The buffet isn’t as good as Old Great Wall, there’s better sushi in any direction(Akagi and Sushi Moto come to mind), and there’s real Chinese in a few locations(Hong Kong). House of Ing is like the Applebee’s of American Chinese food.

This is the Only place in the Greater Lansing Area to get Chinese Food. The Owners, Cooks, Staff and Food are«Top Shelf»! Everything is tasty and fresh-cooked. They have a fabulous choice of entrees. Their daily buffet cuts no corners on variety or freshness of food offered. There are many items fornthe«health-conscious». Their Weekend Buffet(incl. Prime Rib and Crablegs) is Awesome– except for someone like me– who can’t eat beef or shellfish!(Too bad for me… personal problem) Their prices have always been reasonable– especially given the portions/servings. Tell Napoleon and Tammy(Owners) — Ralph sent ya!

Prices were OK, but that is where the good stuff stops. The silverware and plates were dirty. The waitress flitted and fluttered between tables and it was impossible to get her attention long enough to get clean silverware. We asked for water, and she didn’t bring it until the food came so we sat without drinks for quite a while. I also ordered soda, and there was no offer of a refill for the entire meal. She brought out the wrong kind of rice and it took a long time to get white instead of fried. We were there during a calm time, I would hate to see what happens during rush hour. The food was so-so. I got Kon Po chicken, which is supposed to be very spicy(and it has been at every Chinese I have ever ate at) and it was bland. The Kon Po was simply some sliced chicken and carrots with broth and a few peanuts sprinkled on top. No Chili pepper or any hint of pepper flakes. The crab rangoon was cold when it got to the table. My companions food was OK but nothing special. The strangest part of all is if you order the eggroll add-on($ 3.75 extra) with your dinner. You get an eggroll, cottage cheese, and pickles. Who ever heard of pickles and cottage cheese as a side dish with Chinese? I will never go back again. There are much better restaurants in town, the Chinese buffet in the MC plaza is head and shoulders above House of Ing.

Grandma’s birthday this year marked the first time I have stepped foot into this joint in at least 20 years. I really wanted to enjoy it because it is one of her favorites and I sometimes enjoy a really good plate of meat fried within an inch of its life saturated with the stickiest sauce known to mankind. The buffet looked good from the surface, although the idea of roast pork at a Chinese restaurant was a little off-putting. It is a small buffet with a very limited selection of anything, but I think the only thing people really went for were the crab legs. One thing that irks me at a buffet is when the person refilling takes the mostly empty steam tray of food out, places the fresh food in and pours the old stuff on top. Having taken too many food safety classes in the past, this raises my ire because it is a way to spread food poisoning(BTW, there is no such thing as the 24 hour flu. What you’ve really experienced is food poisoning.) What is wholly unacceptable is for the person to dump the brand new food directly on top of the old food and just stir it in. And that is what I witnessed with two of the buffet choices. I’d already started getting my food, so I limited myself to one extremely overpriced plate in hopes that I would not get sick. I always stick with the standards, like General Tso’s chicken, when I’m new to a buffet. There was nothing outstanding or bad about the flavor or texture, very standard stuff. The next shock was the bill. Allegedly it is $ 16.99 per person for the all-you-can-eat buffet but our bill, with one soft drink was over $ 42. Yes, there were 10 of us at the table but the server split the bills and there was NO gratuity added. I would have complained more but I had already complained enough about the other things added to my bill and did not want to further spoil my evening. I remember a day when this place was the gold standard for Chinese food in Lansing, I can only hope for the good people of our state capital that this purveyor decides to try recapturing that level of quality soon.

Growing up this used to be a nice place to dress up and have a fine dining experience. Now it’s just okay. Most people may like it. The service is fair and good luck arguing any dissatisfaction. I’m out.
