La Mesa Mexican Restaurant

I visited La Mesa 3 times over 3 – 4 months. First time by myself and ate at the bar. All 3 times ordered chicken «taquitos mexicanos». Food and chips were above average all 3 times. Service is hit and miss, on my second visit we waited 10 minutes to get served in a slow restaurant. On the 3^rd visit the service was quick but the «taquitos mexicanos» was served alone with no rice or beans. I don’t believe 3 taquitos with a pinch of cheese, lettuce and Pico de Gallo was worth $ 8.95. I didn’t complain because I wasn’t very hungry. But it did look like an appetizer and I will be hesitant to return.

Be careful if you have food allegies or don’t like hostile order takers. Went for take out for a terminal elderly gentleman. It was what he wanted.
I ordered what I was told to order, he is a regular customer. The La Mesa guy taking the order argued. Evidently it is not on the weekend menu. I told him I needed the same items in a weekend available meal. He became obviously very angry. He argued and started throwing menus and order tablets around. This was obvious and I was upset by his obvious hostility.
I am allergic to pork, it makes me very ill and miserable. I ate there years ago, chicken tacos, and discovered they had lard (pork fat) in the flour tacos. I asked if they were still made with pork fat. La Mesa order taker said «No, you order chicken you get chicken». I asked he please double check with the cooks since the problem previously had been in the taco shells. Response was «No» and he wouldn’t double check. Really?
How very, very rude. Asked the lady at check out when I paid for the meal the same question about the pork and she did check with the cooks. She said they don’t always understand. Really? This is Kansas and I speak very clearly. Told her, and I mean it, that the attitude was not appreciated and they should have someone who does understand interacting with the customers. Their lack of caring should not be made my problem.
Didn’t eat my part of the meal. I don’t trust they didn’t lie to me about the pork and I can’t afford to be sick while taking care of my sick family, so I can’t speak to the food quality.

Based on some of the positive reviews, I was extremely disappointed with the food here. The chips seemed a bit stale. The salsa watery. We ordered queso which was lumpy and luke warm. For dinner I ordered the chimichanga and my husband had the la mesa nachos. About 5 mins after ordering our food was brought out on extremely hot plates. I’m wondering if a microwave was used. The chimichanga was very greasy on the inside and it wasn’t from frying because the tortilla wasn’t fried. Not sure what was going on with the Mexican rice but it had Lima beans, green beans, corn, and carrots. I’ve never had rice from a Mexican place like that. It was not good. My husband who usually eats anything was not very happy with his food either. Not sure how you mess up nachos but they did. The only thing we liked was the décor. Other than that our waiter was very inattentive and the food was bad. There is better Mexican in town we won’t be back.

Fresh and delicious! I would go here all the time if I lived in the area! I tried the fried ice cream and I loved it!

Reasonable prices and good food. Great place to go with a large group of people. The Fajita Quesadilla is excellent. This area has too many mexican restaurants, but this one is one of the good ones!!! :)

The salsa is very good. The Patron Shrimp was amazing, the side salad was giant and delicious.
The $ 2.25 margaritas were absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend it.
Our waiter was amazing. He was on point.
Would have been a perfect evening except for the 3 kids that running around and screaming and totally obnoxious.

Our fave Mexican restaurant! The entire staff is attentive, very friendly and fast! The atmosphere is colorful and comfortable. I have 3 favorites: the beef fajitas, the carnitas and the beef taco salad and my husband always orders his favorite fajita nachos! Oh — and the white cheese dip is the best!!!

Are you looking for a restaurant where you are guaranteed to be greeted as soon as you walk in the door, where you are seated as soon as possible (if not immediately!), where the whole staff is super friendly??? This is your place! I am a suckered for great customer service and great food and this place has both! 2 thumbs up for La Mesa! By far the best in the area!

Not a bad Mexican restaurant. The portions were filling and the service was good. The food came out quick and was cooked to order. I recommend the fajitas. Good place for kids.

The best tacos I’ve ever eaten! Second best salsa I have ever eaten. Complimentary tortilla chips with salsa during meal is so good it’s addictive. Excellent food, quiet peaceful atmosphere, Mexican music, fair prices, fast and friendly service all combine for a wonderful dining experience. Other features include a small bar with a tv for sports, clean restrooms, festive and colorful decorations, outdoor dining.

The food is not the worst thing in the world, but it has never filled me up. I am often left unsatisfied after visiting this restaurant

Very nice Mexican restaurant, nice decoration and staff. Food is good and well priced. Seating is a bit uncomfortable, but that’s my only complaint.

Best Mexican food in Lansing /​Leavenworth area. Good size potions, chips and salsa with meals. We eat here a lot.

Im out in lancing visiting with my daughter for a few days I must say the restaurant was very nice looking but the food an service was horrible our chips were cold the salsa taste like regular tomato sauce I ordered a number one an it looked like they just threw a bunch of ground beef on a plate along with some «enchilada sauce» that was cold an also tasted like it can fresh out of the can I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone matter fact the owners should probably hire a new team of cooks this place gets one star for the interior of their establishment

I was in the mood for Americanized Mexican food and this hit the spot! Right off the bat, the chips were super warm and crunchy. I ordered a chicken chimichanga which was exactly the deep-​fried cheesy goodness I was looking for.
We didn’t wait too long for anything and the waiter was attentive (though we did come in at 2:30 on a Saturday, so take that for what you will). My only criticism is I ordered a Diet Coke and it turned out to be a Diet Pepsi, which for me is just not the same. A fairly minor slip up in an otherwise lovely lunch. I will definitely go back when I feel the need to indulge!

THE BEST Mexican restaurant. I always went all the time. Then they closed the one that was close to where I lived. Now if we can go, which is almost never, we have to drive all the way out to St. Lansing. If you live in or are near this La Mesa then enjoy while you can.

The chips and salsa were very good.
The waiter was very nice.
The appetizers literally looked and tasted like they came out of a freezer box from the store and were microwaved. Needless to say this was disappointing.
Our entrees were not very good either.
Overall we were disappointed and are not likely to go back anytime soon.

I really liked their fajitas and their chips were very fresh. Very kid friendly and didn’t wait long for our food.

That one star is crazy. La Mesa is consistently good and almost always friendly service. It is one of the best things about Lansing area.

After eating at La Mesa at least 5 times all I can say is that it never disappoints. Food is always honest, with portions that are satisfying and with service that is attentive. Their Guacamole is always fresh, the chips and salsa are above the norm. If you want authentic Mexican food for a good price and a hassle free experience, I cannot recommend this place enough. We will be coming back!
