Had a great family impromtu dinner tonight. This was out first time at Tampico and we loved it. The food portions were large and very filling. We also got our food super fast and it was nice and hot. Thursday is their two for one margaritas so my husband and I both had one. They have a kids menu that had staple American classics and Mexican dishes. Needless to say my son was fun and happy. The service was great and we will definitely be back.

Solid food for a good price. Been here twice and may come back. I’m pretty picky and this is pretty okay. Neither the best nor the worst Mexican fare.

Shocking to find any good food in sleepy Leavenworth, but this place has it, and friendly staff as well. It’s not the best Mexican food I’ve eaten– hence the missing star– but I’d definitely eat here again. Bonus: huge projector in the back room for watching football, great on a Monday night.

I am a Mexican food snob, if there is such a thing, having grown up in LA where Mexican restaurants outnumber McDonalds and Burger Kings combined. As usual, I stick with the basics the first time I visit a Mexican restaurant to see if they can get them right before moving on to more complex dishes, so we ordered their margarita, a guacamole, tacos(which were their Tuesday«special»), and cheese and onion enchiladas. The house margaritas are two-for-one every day($ 6.50) and were not bad. The flavor was decent with plenty of lime, but there was little noticeable tequila. The chips were good, but a bit on the thin side, and the salsa lacked flavor until I added some of the«hot» red sauce which is available upon request. The small guacamole($ 4.19 — large $ 8) was good, but again not very big. It was well seasoned, so I did not have to add salt as I do at most Mexican restaurants. The shredded beef tacos(3 for $ 4.50 à la carte on Tuesdays — normally $ 6.50) came with just the meat inside and the cheese and lettuce on the plate, a little odd. After adding the cheese, lettuce, salsa(they have spicier green and red salsas available upon request) and some guacamole, the tacos were actually pretty good, but would have been better had there been some tomato or pico de gallo. The cheese and onion enchiladas(3 for $ 7.75 à la carte) were very good, but could have used a bit more cheese and onion inside and needed another 30 – 60 seconds under the broiler. The(red) sauce was very flavorful, being just spicy enough without burning the palate. «Authentic» is a bit of a stretch, but the margaritas, guacamole, tacos, and enchiladas passed muster. The prices are also not bad, being comparable to other Mexican restaurants in the area. Unfortunately, Leavenworth is a 45-minute drive from our house, so we will not be returning often, but may drop-in from time to time when visiting Fort Leavenworth to try some other dishes. delicious, affordable, family friendly, and quick– there’s not much else you could want in a restaurant. The carne asada is so good and generously portioned. The service is always so wonderful. The parking is plentiful and during the daytime it’s pretty easy to get in and out.

We have been here for a week and this is the BEST restaurant that we have eaten at. The food was awesome and the service was just as good! Will definitely eat here again before we leave.

I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants in the KC area over the past 15 years. Tampico has some of the best food of any of them. The pollo asado is fantastic! I can’t get enough of the ground beef chimichanga, as that’s what I order the most. Taco Tuesday is a great deal and delicious as well. The queso is the best in the area and they sell their salsa by the jar because it’s so good. The staff is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is welcoming and they have a great room for private parties with TVs. I can see why this place is always so busy. We will be back often! Well done Tampico!

Awesome! !! We had the fajita burrito and carne asada. Both meals were delicious. They have 2 for 1 house margaritas everyday and they were pretty darn good. Manny is the waiter and he, is worth requesting. Overall good experience, good food, friendly staff, cool atmosphere, and quick service. Their entrance is a little funky via an old westerny building I give it 4 stars, with 2 thumbs thumbs up. We will be back amigos

The place looked nice overall but I wasn’t a fan. The salsa was very bland. The enchilada sauce was thin and also bland, and the ground beef had very little flavor. I did like the green rice, but can’t give it a good rating just for that. Service was okay. I actually tried to come here on one other occasion but left because no one came over to seat me, even though at least one person clearly saw me. Overall, there are better Mexican restaurants in the area.

My husband and I went here for lunch before seeing«Cinderella» and Landing 4 Theaters a couple doors away. We were seated promptly and the host was very nice. We were brought chips and salsa. The chips were warm and yummy. The salsa was a bit spicy but very good! We had to wait to get drinks and by then my mouth was on fire. The host brought us Pepsi and we were good. Our waiter was very nice. We ordered lunch size portions and they were large! We left full! My pollo asado was perfect and my husband’s chicken burrito was to die for! Red rice was yummy! We will definitely be back!

Tampico’s is far from authentic Mexican food but it’s decent Americanized Mexican food. The service is friendly and fast with a comforting atmosphere. I’ve had the fajitas on a few occasions and they are very tasty. Worth a visit if in the area.

I have been passing up this place for a while now and it’s always packed. Finally my husband had a taste for Mexican and bam here we are. I came here after a long day of class and other stuff so I wanted a drink. Awesome they have 2 for 1 drinks, margaritas, or one for 4.50 I believe. The regular ones are good and somewhat strong to my surprise. We were told to get the frozen ones due to being stronger, and she was right. Our waiter was extremely sweet and attentive. No issues at all. She came to check on us more than enough. My steak and shrimp dish came out hot, not piping but that was ok. The shrimp was a garlic shrimp and it came with enough chopped up garlic to prepared maybe 4 dishes. Toooo much. But I picked it off. Ask for my steak medium but it was so thin it came back almost medium rare and was very chewy but the flavor was good. My husband loved his chicken steak fajitas combo. ITS A MUSTYOUGETTHEGREENRICETHATISOFFERED! Omg I would order that alone and with a drink and leave happily. By the end of my third drink. One ice two frozen, I was in no shape to drive or even to walk anywhere far. So maybe keep it to two drinks. I’m coming back for sure.

There are much better Mexican restaurants in the area. The food here isn’t bad, but the salsa taste like tomato soup. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant’s downtown location is nice.

Taco Tuesday! $ 4.50 for 3 tacos on Tuesdays. You would pay that at Taco Bell — and these are WAYBETTER! You can get hard, soft, or deep fried. There are 4 kinds of meat: ground beef, shredded beef, pork or chicken. The chicken and pork were our favorites! The queso was also quite delicious. Super friendly service. Chips and salsa were pretty good as well, though nothing special. We will definitely be back — not many places you can get good food at that price that actually fills up teenage boys! Next time we will try the guacamole as well! Absolutely a great find in a cute downtown Main Street type area.

Went tonight for dinner with my husband and we were so disappointed with the food. Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. They charged for green salsa which we weren’t made aware of and it was flavorless. My fajitas came out wrong and when the new ones were brought out they were so overcooked and had a large amount of liquid on the plate? Very weird and I didn’t eat them. My husbands burrito was ok but not anything to rave about. When the manager was made aware that my fajitas weren’t edible, she didn’t bother to even address the situation. She looked at me and walked off. Our waitress apologized and gave 10 percent off the price of the fajitas.($ 2.20) Needless to say, we will never return.

I think Tampico is the best Mexican restaurant in Leavenworth. The food is good and comes out quickly. The chips and salsa are fantastic. The service is pretty good and the staff are pretty nice. My biggest complaint is the time it takes to get your check and pay at the end.
