Excellent food, fast service, reasonable prices! I’ve never written a Unilocal review but this place inspired me!

«We have to serve the food from the day before first, before we serve the fresh food»… My wife and I are in the area before the holidays visiting family. We had a hankering for wings, and being we do not eat at chains, we relied on Unilocal to help us find the best wings/beer spot around the locale. We were very excited after reading the reviews. However we were mistaken. We were seated at a high top in the bar, as requested. We then ordered a very reasonable flight of in house brewed beers, good selection and actually decent beer. Off to a good start. We are huge fans of French onion soup, and have probably been spoiled by a very good spot near our home where we get consistently good and well prepared French onion soup, and wherever we go that has it, we always order it. Tonight we decided, as usual, to try the French onion soup here. The soup was very good, cheese perhaps a tad overcooked too crispy, but heart of the soup was well prepared. The onions were caramelized nicely, not too much red wine, missing a bay leaf or two, but we were surprised to see soft pumpernickel bread in the bowl. What happened to the French part? We followed up the soup with two orders of the wings. My wife got mild, I got hot. Her, a side of homemade blue cheese, me I asked if they had ranch, the server told me they did so I went with that. The wings came on individual plates, and a side plate with the two dressings and celery. I absolutely love celery when I have wings; so when the celery came out I was happy to grab a piece, dip into the ranch and eat a piece. The celery was soft, and like jelly. When I bit it, it didn’t break or crunch, and I foolishly ripped the piece through my teeth trying to get it to break and was left with a gelatinous goo in my mouth. I immediately spit it out. Upon closers inspection, many of the pieces of celery were of the same quality. Old, sitting in a water bath for God knows how long, and when you bent them they were like noodles! After I spit it out into a napkin, my wife said to me «I saw the color of those and before I could say anything for you not you, you grabbed one and bit it.» I got the servers attention. I didn’t just want to come right out and complain, so I asked for a new napkin because«I had to spit out the celery». I told the server about the celery and she stated«oh ok, let me go get you some fresh celery». My wife and I looked at each other; was there«fresh-er» celery than what was brought to my table? Surely she didn’t mean that, but I intended to ask when she returned. When she did return, the slices of fresh celery were noticeably fresher, brighter looking, and I tried one, and it was. The typical fresh celery crunch. The server came by soon after to ensure everything was up to snuff, so I asked«I’m sorry but you said you got me fresh celery the second time, what was the celery you brought to me first?» She responded unbelievably, and this is God’s honest truth, that«we have to bring out the food from the day before, before we bring out the fresh food». I was stunned. This was now at almost 9pm on a saturday, and she is telling me that I am being served food from assuredly more than 24 hours ago! I clarified the question and she restated further«they were almost the last ones left, it’s my fault, I just took the last ones and gave them to you because we have to use the food from the day before first, before we serve fresh food». Such an admission was something we never heard the likes of. We should have stopped then and there, but I foolishly took another bite of a wing dipped in «ranch». I say«ranch» because i did not get ranch dressing, and it was not immediately evident. I was finding a sandy gristle in my mouth while eating the wings and an odd after taste. When I looked more closely and smelled and tasted it alone, it was evident that this was Parmesan Peppercorn. I asked the server who said«yeah it’s a ranch with peppercorns» I insisted it was Parmesan and then she said«yeah it’s a Parmesan Peppercorn with a ranch base». I’m sorry but that’s not ranch! Does not matter how your phrase it. That’s like ordering a marinara sauce and they bring you a vodka sauce. Yeah there is tomato sauce in it, but it’s not tomato sauce! Check please! We had had enough! We were not going to be outright lied to and put ourselves at risk for food poisoning anymore. The wings, I left out. At this point there isn’t much to review worth anything of value aside from mine were over cooked and grissly on the ends but alright in fairness, and my wife’s mild wings were bizarrely soaked with grease as if they had been thrown into a fryer with low temperature oil. I have never experienced anything like what we experienced tonight. Not one apology, not one offer to take anything off. Utterly dismal. Avoid avoid avoid…

Just loved it! The ambience is wonderful. Historic beautiful building with period rooms… each with it’s own allure. Service was good, nothing to write home about, but friendly and pleasant. Great menu with local and organic choices. Vegetarian choices too. I was finally able to enjoy«Buffalo» something, as I don’t eat chicken. The had Buffalo tofu. fried to crunchy perfection with great sauce. French onion soup was a hit too! Beer flights, nice red wine selections. Not on our usual route, nor near where we live, but if in that neck of the woods would definitely return.

Wow. Came here because we found it on the Finger Lakes Beer Trail map. VERY glad we made the trip! Amazing food — nearly everything locally-sourced. 5 – 6 of their own beers plus other microbrews on tap, good selection of bottled beers, too. Flights reasonably priced($ 8 for a flight of 5 beers — they choose the beers). Food was AMAZING. We got onion rings, a burger, salad, and a fried fish sandwich. Everything was freshly made. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. The place has been around a long time. In terms of the décor, think of an authentic Applebee’s(I mean that in a good way!) — lots of old photos, road signs, misc stuff hanging on the walls. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area!

This place was great, but I ditched two stars for the almost terrible service. The food choices were really interesting, and I really liked their menu to match Finger Lakes Cider Week. The prices were quite fair, and I believe they had some options for vegan/vegetarians. We really liked the free appetizer for checking in on Unilocal! We got the loaded fries with their own cheese(made with their beer). They were great! They had to be fresh cut and the cheese and bacon were real and in large amounts. As far as the entrees, I got the prime rib(delicious), and my girlfriend got the falafel burger. Both were very good(her coleslaw was one of the best I’ve had), and my prime rib was quite good, and HUGE. Good drink selection, but don’t expect any flavored beers here(pumpkin, etc). I got the Rt 34 Red Ale and really liked it. Their beer is pretty awesome! The atmosphere is great — feels just as it looks in the pictures — with lots of things to look at on the wall, an nice crowd(mix of blue collar and white collar). No college students, which is a nice change-of-pace from Ithaca The service was pretty bad. We waited over one hour for our food and it was not even that busy(multiple open tables). One couple beside us actually came in about 20 min after us and they got drinks, an app, their meal AND dessert before we even finished our app. It took over 15 minutes to get our drinks. Maybe the service would be better in the dining room section though, as we sat in the bar area. Overall, I would go back, but would sit either right AT the bar or wait for a seat in the dining area as I wanted to love it(5stars) so much, but the service killed that idea. I’ll be back in a couple months to try it out again

Always a great stop after wine tasting on Cayuga Lake. Great atmosphere, porch dining and down to earth service. We love the farm to table cuisine concept, wish more restaurants in CNY would follow suit, not on a grand scale, though, like most places try to go over the top. Simple, subtle and freshly unique!

My wife and I spent the last two nights at this place and loved it. It was built in 1830 and is relatively close to downtown Ithaca. The first floor is the brewpub restaurant while the 2nd&3rd floors are an inn with rooms for rent, bed and breakfast style. Being able to stroll downstairs and be in a bar with their own brew on tap was seriously kick ass. Their pale ale was damn good, as was their cream ale. Our food was solid, but not amazing. Still, the staff was warm, the beer was cold, and the building just oozes history. Worth checking out, whether you’re a local looking for a new spot to unwind after work or an out of towner looking for a fun place to stay.

An intriguing roadside in enduring along the hills overlooking Cayuga Lake wrapped in colorful history. The charming rooms are full of character, creaking floorboards and oversized doors and windows that you wonder if the original owners haunt the place. A very cool place to stay and the WINGS in the restaurant are paired best with a local craft beer and the amazing onion rings. and they make their own beer! one big problem– the cheesecake tasted like raw cream cheese.

Free appetizer only applies to choices up to 6.50, of which there are only 3(and one of those is made with tofu). Stars apply to food taste

Great beer, great food, and fun times. It’s a bit out of the way, but I love it here. If you find yourself in the area, you’ll find friendly people and a fun ambiance.

A cute place in Lansing. The atmosphere was awesome — love the pub feel, lighting, and the super unique decorations. The food was fresh, but I’d say pretty average. My husband ordered a burger and I ordered the drunken chicken sandwich — both were decent, although the drunken chicken sandwich had a very unique taste to it that wasn’t my absolute favorite. We also tried the cream ale, which really was not too creamy and pretty average. Overall, a nice stop and one of the more reasonably priced places in the area.

My wife and I were staying here for their B&B. What we didn’t know was we would get one of the best restaurants in the area. Both my wife and I are vegetarians. We ate here twice. The first time the dining room was closed for some special occasion, so we were sat in the pub area. It was calm, nice, and well-served. If I lived nearby, I could see myself grabbing a beer here. The second time, we sat outside on the porch, which lacks any sort of view, but was nice, and had great service. They have their own beers they brew. They are fine, and I would give them a try. But they also have an excellent selection of other beers, if you are not feeling adventurous. They have tofu wings, which are really amazing. The mushroom soup we had was perfect. The mozzarella wedges were great. I had the ravioli as well, which was great. Anyway, great food. I would highly recommend trying this place if you are around.

Yum! We are traveling throughout NY State for a week and thus far this is my favorite meal. Everything we ate was NY locally sourced. Additionally I really like the cool, historical tavern/inn atmosphere. The service was warm and attentive. I’ll recommend several things we had, loaded steak fries(w local cheddar sauce and bacon), 3 cheese broccoli soup, delicious Rosemary focaccia(served w olive oil and crumbled feta). For dinner we had a beautiful seasoned steak seasoned with chimichurri sauce, smoky roasted pork served with perfect slaw and a unique style of polenta(jalapeño, sweet red pepper)

The building is amazing. The beer is just going through the motions. It lacks the freshness that should come with a local brew and the creativity that is the hallmark of the current American Craft Ale. Fifteen years ago it would be great to find this beer, but today it’s forgettable. We tried a round of deserts – fine but forgettable. The ganache lacked depth(although my companion begged to differ), the ice cream lacked cream and volume. The cobbler had deep berries and a buttery biscuit, but could use more biscuit. Maybe I was soured by the sticky table that seemed as old as the building, but I expected more.

Drove by this beautiful building months ago and have been meaning to eat here ever since, based on looks alone! Finally made it out last night. Portions were huge, the food was delicious, and our server, Shaunna, was sweet. Highly recommend the Brewer’s Choice. Definitely heading back soon!

A comfortable room decorated with old wood paneling and beams, old license plates, road signs — had real character. This is worth the 20 minute drive out of Ithaca — try it before sundown to enjoy the short lake shore views. The food was pub food but upgraded with some really tasty options beyond the typical burgers and fish and chips(that were also on the menu). The salmon and haddock for example were nicely prepared. I enjoyed an appetizer of chick peas with Indian curry sauce. They have a good selection of tap and bottled beers with a full range from porters to pale ales.

Absolutely great restaurant for the money. I have never has as good a meal for the price I paid then when my wife and I dined here. Salads were great, Onion rings were fresh, Steak and fish were perfectly cooked and service was great. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who comes to the area as it is a great meal for a very fair price.

A nice diversion if you happen to be in the Lansing area looking for an interesting place to have dinner. The atmosphere is cozy and the people working there are friendly and welcoming. Pluses: The jalapeño appetizer and the basic burger were very good, and for a reasonable price. I didn’t care much for the coleslaw; it is too rich and creamy and reminded me a bit of typical food service coleslaw rather than something more interesting and inventive. The wit and brewer’s choice double-hopped ale were good as well(good meaning maybe a 3 out of 5). The value in the«lighter» menu which contains the burgers is pretty good. Minuses: The kimchi burger was seriously lacking in flair or zest. My advice is that if you’re going to serve something with kimchi, your typical patron who’s going to order it is someone who likes things spicy. It was not spicy at all(in fact, neither were the jalapenos but they still tasted good). The kimchi didn’t even really add anything to the burger and was a disappointment. Also, two of the beers were quite unremarkable and bland, which I would rate maybe a 2 out of 5. These were the red ale and the cream ale. We did not try the more expensive dinners on the menu but you can easily spend $ 15-$ 20 per entrée here or more. I’m not sure I would go back – not because it was a bad experience but because there’s just not much motivation to go back. The beers weren’t anything to write home about and the food wasn’t anything I can’t get in Ithaca or anywhere else.

Here to visit Cornell and after a full day outside, what a nice welcoming warm place to have dinner. We got no further than a cozy booth in the bar area! House brewed beers had quite a variety and getting a taste before ordering was welcomed warmly. The fresh focaccia bread with dipping sauce was a great way to start followed by a house salad with bib lettuce that looked and tasted as if it had just been picked that day. Homemade dressing were a bonus too! I had fish and chips and my dining companion the mushroom ravioli. Dinner conversation lulled as the food was fabulous. The piece of haddock was fried in a delicious beer batter that was very very crispy with flaking fish inside. The portion size was generous enough that my hosts for the weekend got a second helping when we got home. No room for dessert. Would absolutely come here again

Very good ingredients and service. The restaurant side has a quiet old pub ambiance. Good for a quiet friendly discussion between friends. Service is kind and food is very nicely cooked. The menu is short, but very well executed. A few wines by the glass. As in most restaurant, red wine by the glass is served at room temperature(too warm). Interesting local wine and beer selection. It is a good choice if you are around.

Quite the historic place with lots of stories to tell. The restaurant feels rather dark, service is good, food was ok for me but nothing special. Bar area has nice selection of microbrews on tap ! Suggest to go with the bar.
