If I could rate 0 stars I would. I came here for brunch on Valentine’s Day on a Sunday with my husband and 15 month old son with a reservation. I was met with an incompetent staff that seated us at a tiny table near a drafty door that barely accommodated my husband and I, let alone our son. The waiter mumbled that the other tables were for reservations, although we had one. The food was not great, definitely not worth the $ 70 price tag for an omelette, a salad and undercooked pancakes. The woman dining next to us returned her eggs for being undercooked. I am beyond disappointed, wouldn’t come back here if you paid me. I’ve never felt so incensed to write any kind of review before, but felt that I had to share. Please avoid this place at all costs. I feel like I’ve been robbed.

One of Westchester’s finest restaurants. A landmark mainstay at this point after 10+ years, but always coming up with new, farm fresh, inventive cuisine. Happening bar dining happy hour where the planked Pastrami sandwich or burger is only $ 14/$ 12. Bargain alert :)

I understand that New Year’s Eve can be busy for a restaurant, but that should be viewed by restaurateurs as an opportunity, not a hassle. Why deviate from what you normally do? Why not take the opportunity to impress revelers and make them want to come back to your place in the coming year? We left this restaurant feeling ripped off and we aren’t going back… Arriving at our reserved time we were greeted as if our arrival was a surprise and then seated near the front door in the bar area, not in the main dining room. Why? Then we were handed a flimsy paper menu with no prices on it. Our confusion was softened slightly when we were given two flutes of sparkling wine. Only when we asked, a bit later, if there was some sort of prix-fixe special going on because of new Year’s eve did we learn that, yes, that’s the situation, with a very limited menu and ONEHUNDREDDOLLARS per person. I guess their justification for that outrageous price was the offer of unlimited«champagne.» To that point, I am pretty sure it was NOT true Champagne but rather a French sparkler(maybe a cremant), quite pleasant with a nice yeastiness, but boy was it annoying that the waiter deliberately covered the label with his hand when we asked to see what we were drinking). We were distressed y this, because it was not our expectation at all: the prix-fixe was not advertised and, had we not already begun to sip the«champagne» we would have left. We were looking for a variety of small plates and planned to go home to our own champagne — who wants to imbibe«all you can drink» unless you are walking home or subsidizing Über? But we felt past the point of no return, so we turned to this disappointing menu. Our waiter was very sweet and, though he seemed a bit inexperienced, was responsive to our requests. I don’t blame him for anything that we disliked about our experience As we mulled our choices, we were brought some«canapes»… they were obviously made early in the day, as the tortilla chips/crostinis upon which the blobs of dip were plopped were soggy and lacking any of the original crispness that would have been the tasty texture contrast to the toppings. That completely detracted from whatever flavor qualities the toppings had: five days later all I remember is the wetness and stale feel of the bases. We ordered a ‘salmon tartare” and oysters on the half shell. The salmon, really more of a cake, was a fairly cute presentation and tasted fine. The oysters — five of them(Bluepoints, i’m pretty sure) were served with vinegar and what tasted like a bottled cocktail sauce. zzzzzzzzzzz. Our entrees were even worse. The«asian style» duck leg was incinerated and almost inedible. The strip steak was thankfully cooked to order(rare) but utterly flavorless. Worse, it was served on this messy bed of crunchy bits of deep-fried onion with a bit of cauliflower tossed in – looked like the crumb-y remains of a plate of onion rings and tasted like a fast food side. It seemed like both dishes were planned for mass production purposes: a piece of meat plopped on top of some obligatory side that was barely re-heated. Dessert options were likewise uninspired. The chocolate«soufflé» was remarkably similar to a Trader Joe’s heat&serve product, dense and rich without an airy soufflé texture at all. Overall, I agree with the reviewers who had high hopes that were dashed. Not a good choice when there are so many better values and better experiences to be had nearby. Tant pis…

Everything needed salt. Couldn’t finish my fried chicken because I wasn’t sure it was cooked through.

Consistently outstanding local in beautiful Larchmont in Memorial Park. The small little cute White House is warm and inviting — the menu creative and delicious with an amazing dessert– the«Larchmonster!» Woo Hooooo!!! Only criticism is that the smell out back near parking of the trash and emptied fats in the metal drums is a bit foul.

Really cute, homey yet fine dining atmosphere. I guess it’s like having dinner at the house of someone who has a full staff and excellent cook. It’s a small, intimate place and it feels more like a house than a restaurant. The food is really nice. It’s definitely high end and French influenced — oysters, foie gra, seared scallops, dressed up steaks, etc. it’s all very good. Also very good cocktails, good wide ranging wine selection and a small selection of high quality beers. The happy hour sounds great, but I’ve never been. I have been in Sunday for their bottomless BBQ plate. Legit bbq, really good sides(so good you eat them and don’t save room for more meat, usually a no-no!). Very different from the dinner menu, but All super high quality. Highly recommend if it even sounds remotely good.

We had somewhat high expectations that were quickly dashed. Where do I begin? 1. TV in bar area(Strike One) 2. Despite having a reservation, the host attempted to seat us in the bar(Strike Two) 3. Loonnngg wait for the waiter(Strike Three) 4. Never received bread(Strike 4) 5. Never got one appetizer that we ordered(Strike 5) 6. Veal ravioli, while delicious, was icy cold(Strike 6) 7. Duck breast, while flavorful, was barely room temperature(Strike 7) 8. Dessert was microwaved. MICROWAVED.(Strike 8) 9. Noted comments to waiter — no response from manager on duty. Really?(Strike 9) Amateur at best. Will never go back.

I come in here with my family all the time. This restaurant is absolutely amazing. From the service to the atmosphere, to the food everything is well over a 5 star rating. Keep it up!

Recently went there and ordered a steak fir$ 38. It was fatty with thick muscle in short it was horrible. Even the dog was reluctant to eat it and had to be coaxed into finishing it up. I won’t be back and suggest you all stay away from this high priced establishment.

Fantastic! We had 14 women for a 50th birthday party last night. The service was perfect and the food was delicious. The halibut with beets, brussel sprouts and a rhubarb purée was a favorite and then the ring ding tower cake — on my! Everyone had a wonderful time. I can’t wait to go back with my own family of 4. Matt Karp is so talented and his team is wonderful. I don’t think this is a splurge, the price reflects the quality of the food and the service.

A great chef and a good restaurant. a bit noisy so go early or late, Matt is very accommodating if you give him time. this is a favorite of mine in Larchmont. Matt the owner was trained in Paris and Italy at Cordon Bleu so if you have any requests he can do it. One of my favorite desserts is oeufs S a la neige light and delicious. or chocolate mousse with whip cream. oh well I can dream which I do of Paris. Paula

My husband and I love coming here. The food is great. I only had one disappointing dish, which was the ramen appetizer special. The fried chicken, duck and fish are all excellent. The cocktails here are also good.

Stopped in for an early Friday dinner. Great, intimate environment with good music. Our waitress, Jennifer, was perfect. Open to questions about the meals and she gave good advice for ordering. Now onto the food… the food was delicious! Will definitely be back to try more plates from the menu. It’s also very well priced. We had 2 glasses of wine and a beer, two apps, two entrees, and two desserts for $ 130. Great deal for the quality of food and service.

I am going to stick with the four star rating. But I do have to note that on several occasions when I have been there since I first wrote my review, we have had some really long waits. It’s a small place, so one has to be prepared to cut them some slack. That said, one night we came for dinner, had to wait for a table(for which we had a reservation), and then waited nearly an hour between our first course and our second. They were appropriately chagrined, but it below the level of service I expect. More recently, we had a reservation but had to wait more than 30 mins for a table to open. They did buy us a round of drinks, which was nice, and they had a table of people who were really taking their sweet time — that happens… — but it would be disappointing to me if these kind of waits became regular feature of this restaurant…

I don’t review a restaurant until I have eatern there at least three times within a six month period. Plates now qualifies. Overall, this is a nice restaurant and probably one of the better in the Larchmont area. It is in a small house, which means that the table are cramped. They seat people in the front lobby, which can be uncomfortable. The main dining room is nicer, but can also be uncomfortable if you are forced to sit on one of the benches. The food is good, but inconsistent. They do a great chicken dish – it was also the most reliable. Stay away from the burgers – nothing special here. The burgers were overcooked both times we ordered them and are uninspired. The«special» fresh salmon is one of the worst dishes we ate — it had a strong, fishy taste and was cool(despite being cooked). The salads were consistently good. The desserts were also very good — the Fall crisp was nice and fresh. One small annoyance, but on two different visits, our waiter delivered our food with his thumb in the salad bowl so he could carry all of the dishes. Use a tray or make two trips, but please don’t stick your fingers insider the food. I will continue to eat here and hope it becomes more consistent — because, when it is good, it is really good. But, at least on the last two visits, it was only fair.

I agree with the sentiments in many of the other positive reviews posted here on plates. This is our date night/birthday/nice occasion spot in Larchmont, as well as the place we take couples who are visiting from out of town(to prove Larchmont has at least some good restaurants!). Love the décor, the location across from the train, the manager who greets/seats you is quite friendly, and the waiters are professional and relatively knowledgeable. Last time we were there there were three pasta dishes that all looked amazing and I found it too hard to chose just one. The waiter was quick to offer to prepare two half orders(I like it when restaurants do that). Lastly, none of the above would matter if the food were not great-but it is. Fun, interesting menu and delicious food. Not cheap but reasonable prices given the high quality. Definitely try it.

This is our new fav spot! What a gem in larchmont. We didn’t feel like going into the city or eating the usual italian so I turned to old trusty Unilocal :) The first time we came was during restaurant week and thy squeezed us in before the 7 o’clock seating. We didn’t know what to expect and we were absolutely surprised! Everything is fresh, pretty organic, and farm to table. We had this amazing kimchi ramen and the tacos for appetizer. Then for our meal I had the blackened sea bass and my bf had the hen… both a little on the small portion side but absolutely delicious! They have bread they bake fresh everyday and this roasted eggplant spread. For dessert we ordered the ring ding and I got some lemon poppy cake with cheesecake froth something or another. The second time we went, we sat at the bar for happy hour. ½ price apps, $ 1 oysters, $.50 wings and $ 2 off each drink. We started off with 24 oysters and the flatbread(pizza). The pizza had apple shreds and amazing ricotta(and I really don’t like ricotta). Then I ordered fried chicken and my bf ordered the sausage lam meat dish. These dishes were a lot bigger than the last meal we had and the fried chicken was perfect!(And tasted great 3 days later). My bf ate everything on his dish minus the sunchokes(sunflower artichokes) bc we thought they were black eyes peas. Then we ordered the homemade marshmallow ice cream. We will be coming here once a week for dinner bc you don’t feel like a disgusting heifer when you leave. #cleaneats

After almost a half hour searching for a place to eat, my boyfriend and I decided to try out Plates. Great choice I might add. The décor is very cute. there are plates all around the restaurant from the owners travels. The host was very nice and seated us quickly. I didn’t like how close we were sitting to the door, seeing everyone walk in and out but that’s just my preference. To the left is a nice size bar and there is more seating in the back as well. And CLEAN bathrooms!(I skeeve bathrooms that are not immaculate) We went during restaurant week so there was an additional menu to choose from. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Coconut Muscle soup & my boyfriend had the tuna tartare… AMAZING! The soup was so delicious I was thinking about ordering another. our entrees were delish as well… I had the scallops which were cooked to perfection & my boyfriend had a 10oz grass fed burger. he says it was great. I wouldn’t touch the thing bc I don’t eat meat lol… For dessert we ordered the home made ring ding with a side of Oreo ice cream. to be completely honest I was a little disappointed. maybe because I was expecting a decadent hot ring ding with whip cream on the inside. but what we received was an ice cold hard ring ding… I don’t remember if your supposed to eat them freezing or not but it wasn’t my style of dessert. Still pretty tasty nonetheless. we ordered a bottle of red wine(Louis Jadot) which was very good. not too dry and not too sweet. of course we polished it off. the bottles of wine was around 70 $. now I know restaurants jack up the place so I’m not complaining, just a little upset that they almost a 55 $ increase on a 12 $ bottle of wine. I didn’t really like that… overall this was a great place to enjoy a nice meal, a little on the pricey side but the food is worth it!
