I’m not a coffee connoisseur like Ty W. But I enjoy a good latte or frappé. Desert Wind has been our go to for awhile now. They have great options for both of us. He goes for the knock your socks off strong flavors and I go for the matcha green tea latte. As Joe puts it, it’s a drink for grass eaters. Ha ha. Well Joe, I appreciate you serving it regardless. Both Joe and his wife are always so kind and helpful. They remember all of their regulars. For customers it’s that added extra touch for them to take the time to know and remember you. Desert Wind is on my favorites list!

This review has been a long time coming. I just recently hosted a Unilocal Coffee Event at this location, but my first initial visit is what gave me the idea for the coffee series all together. I came here after a long meeting at Red Rock and needed some go juice to get the brain moving again. Desert Wind Coffee Roasters popped and after skimming a few of their amazing reviews my coffee radar was at full attention, thank god that my pants were stretchy. This small coffee shop offers bold coffee concoctions, sweet coffee drinks, and a mean espresso drink. I ordered an espresso over ice, but the gentleman behind the counter suggested a hot espresso, in fact a double espresso and he assured me it would be smooth. Fugg it, lets do this. He gave me a Ristretto, which is basically two shots of concentrated espresso, but it still fits in a standard espresso cup. Yowza, I felt like one of the Avengers after sipping this amazing drink. Seriously, I «Hulked», out in a good way, and was off, feverishly tapping away at my computer. This drink was so smooth and tasted very clean for a double espresso, with surprisingly no bitter espresso aftertaste. I was so stoked on this place that I had to introduce myself before taking off, it turned out the fella with the great suggestion was none other than the owner himself. Joe and I ended up chatting for about forty-five minutes about coffee, his background and the new«Breaking Bad» themed coffee menu. Pam and Joe are awesome people who make some great coffee. It you’re a fellow brew-head like myself, then what are you waiting for? Get your beans down here and take a sip of the good life!

This review is based on both customer service and coffee quality. We were not greeted by the two women working in the store when we came in. Since it was the first time in this place, started looking at the long menu on the wall. Younger woman barista did not offer to help or explain anything about their coffee. She looked disinterested and unfriendly. The other older sales woman just walked away after chatting with someone. Again, no greeting to new customers. Ordered a latte, it did not even have a foam design, only white blob. Any place charging around $ 4 for a cup should have baristas trained to do pretty designs. Latte taste was average, expected much more from a store that roasts their coffee. When we were leaving it would have been nice of them to thank us for the business and wish to «have a nice day». They have pleasant seating inside with funny pics on the walls. From the outside store looked dark and deserted, was not even sure they were open. Interestingly when you walk in there is no coffee smell at all. Overall did not enjoy the experience. Was going to buy some coffee beans since I always want to support small business, but will look for a friendlier place to do that. Thankfully there are many of those around.

I live in Portland(land of great coffee), and this is my new favorite coffee shop. I think I literally begged the owner to open one in Portland. There were so many different lattes I wanted to try, but the owner convinced me to try the Walter White. Best coffee drink I have ever had! My boyfriend got a specially made hot chocolate, which isn’t on the menu, but he doesn’t drink coffee. I don’t really like hot chocolate, but it too was delicious. I was informed their chocolate is made in house. Excellent customer service in that they were willing to accommodate him. Overall, a chill place to hang out, reasonably priced, AMAZINGDRINKS, and nice people. Now all I want when I come to Las Vegas is their coffee. Please open one in Portland :)

Awesome owners! Friendly and highly knowledgeable about coffee. Pam, the expert in matcha magic, made the best hot green tea/matcha latte ive had so far. I dont know if she added sugar to it but it had a subtle taste of sweetness to it. Soooo goood. This will be where im buying my beans from now on to use on my breville barista express machine.

My girlfriend & I love cafes & we make a point to support local small businesses whenever possible, including when traveling. She found this neat establishment on Unilocal & so far we have been here twice. And we love it. I am a tea person while she is primarily a coffee drinker. This place makes the best hot Matcha green tea. It was rich & with no sugar. I have gone to a number of cafes where the matcha green tea was sweet, semi-sweet or too powdery. Not here… they have got it down.

One of the best coffee places I have been to. Love their sweet goods and the atmosphere here was just perfect to sit down and have a nice talk with couple of friends.

Cute shop and delicious coffee! The owners and super nice and friendly as well. Will definitely come to this place whenever I am in the city! Chris’s LBB and the Walter White are super tasty and definitely woke me up haha. The only thing was that it was a little hard to spot while driving, but it’s honestly not that big of an issue.

I am such a coffee connoisseur and always try different places to get my next latte. This place is my favorite and I felt compelled to write a review. The owner really has made a science out of coffee roasting. The flavors are always robust and their«Breaking Bad» themed drinks are super creative. As much as I didn’t want the television series to end, I can say the same for my Walter White latte. I live somewhat out of the way from Desert Wind, but I guarantee it is always worth the trip!

My parents decided on Las Vegas for Christmas, so whenever I come out here, I try to find new businesses to check out. Desert Wind is 6 months old and a great addition to LV and the coffee scene. I was at one of my other favorite places the night before, the beat, and the«oh so cool» girl said they didn’t sell any whole bean or ground coffee… too bad for them. Desert Wind came up high on the Unilocal list. Cute location, hidden away from the obnoxious LV. I told the owner, Pam, I had never been there since I was from out of town. She recommended the Burundi beans. This was the first time I had heard of this African nation. She also mentioned the beans from Rwanda. This was new to me since I’ve only had beans from either Ethiopia or Kenya. Both are very unique in flavor. I can’t describe them since we all experience coffee our own ways, but both are very flavorful. The barista, Alex, said both were excellent choices if I was looking for something different. DW is a great place for beans and from the looks of the lounge, a secret haven away from the sounds of LV. Definitely support this local business since it’s a much better place than McCoffeebucks. I even got some holiday treats from Pam as I left. Can’t wait to return!

Brandon Flowers once sang«heaven ain’t close in a place like this.» But has Mr. Flowers been to one Desert Wind Coffee Roasters yet? ‘Cause their coffee is d i v i n e. Needless to say, I was so very happy to see a local coffee shop just a mile down the road from my Mimi’s house(Thanks, Unilocal!). Hurrah! Something different than Starbucks and/or Folgers! Desert Wind is very easy to find, thanks to the green signs on both Sahara and Buffalo directing you to freshly-roasted coffee. I ordered their Sumatra, which is some of the best coffee I’ve ever tasted. No burnt bitterness like Starbucks, but packs every bit of caffeine. I ended up staying and reading for a while and definitely had to order another cup before leaving! My second visit left me with another delicious cup of coffee and 2 bags of beans to take to my aunt and uncle’s on Christmas morning. I may have to get my Mimi to mail me some of this coffee… The customer service was also excellent. Both women were kind and friendly – even introducing themselves since they didn’t recognize me as a local regular(I so wish I were!!). It’s not a madhouse like other coffee joints in the morning, which made Desert Wind all the more lovely place to get your morning jolt. A+, thumbs up, high five, hellz yeah.

For my personal tastes, their coffees were roasted too long. Most coffees that I looked at were roasted to at least Full City, maybe beyond. The owner and barista were nice, but didn’t really seem to know too much about coffee. The roaster looked good, but they weren’t roasting when I was in there. Based on the previous reviews, I was expecting a hip and cool roastery. Unfortunately, I found a coffee shop that happened to have a roaster — not sure if they know how to fully use it. I had an espresso that was overextracted and a pour-over coffee which had minimal flavor. A bit disappointed, but again, some of my review is based on my personal taste for coffee. Follow-up on this review(11/10/2015): I received a nice note from Joseph, the roast master at Desert Wind. He and I chatted on personal preferences on coffee, and I certainly enjoyed hearing more about how they’re roasting to their clientele’s preferences. For me, and as I noted above, that wasn’t my preferred flavor profile, but it was obvious that Joseph really cared about roasting coffee and wanted to provide the best coffee he could for his customers. He even went as far as to describe which coffees, no matter the roast level, would be most appropriate for the espresso machine. I only wish that I’d received that advice while I was in his shop. I’ll be back in Vegas and will give another try to Desert Wind and will try to come in when I can meet Joseph.

I wasn’t sure at first. I saw the sign that said«Fresh Roasted Coffee» as I drove to work going north on Buffalo just past Sahara. I wondered if someone was teasing me with one of my most beloved vices. I finally gave in, and made way to the small shop tucked in the back corner of a row of offices. I worried that it might be closed, but it turned out that I just lucked into a non-busy time. I ordered an iced latte, my go-to test of any coffee shop. I was pleasantly surprised by the strength of the flavor, the depth of the roast, and the lack of burned bitter notes that you get from Starbucks. Hoping that wasn’t an anomoly, I went back and tried the mocha breve, and now I’m a true convert. I now submit this review with a heavy heart — I want this delightful place to succeed, but I don’t want to wait too long in line for my next fix.

Taking the last sip of my iced vanilla latte was like reading the last page of an amazing book that I didn’t want to end. The employees exude pride for what they’re serving. They radiate confidence in their products and it shows. The attention to detail in their décor, signage and retail is also(I believe) a reflection in the actual coffee quality itself. Bravo to a new hidden gem of a coffee house where you would least expect it. Behind Arts Auto Body and next to Eldorado Cleaners.

Very nice people. Nice interior. Serious roasters. Really good lattes, cappuccino and Sumatra drip. All drinks were rich in flavor and lacking in sour/bitter profiles. A wonderful find in an area of town without many options. Hard to find but its in a small strip mall behind the U.S. Gas station in the north east area of the intersection. No big signs out by street. Take the effort to find it. You will be happy. Mostly coffee and beans with a small offering of tiny scones, tiny cupcakes, small biscotti and brownie bites. NOTE: If you buy beans and won’t open them any time soon they will inject the bag with nitrogen and seal it. No, I’m not kidding.(See photo). They also have a tiny roaster and will roast you a half pound of coffee beans to order. Takes less than 10 minutes.

Desert Wind is an absolute treasure! We’re in Vegas on vacation and wanted coffee that wasn’t Starbucks. Desert Wind was nearby so we gave it a shot. I ordered the Liquid Breaking Bad and it was delicious! Very strong but not at all bitter or sour or ashy like Starbucks. They offer soy milk and have some sugar-free syrups. Pretty much anything you would order elsewhere can be made here as well. Just ask if you don’t see your«usual» on the menu. Pam, the owner, is happy to make your drink your way. I had mentioned how well balanced the espresso tasted and then we started picking out a pound of coffee. Joseph struck up a conversation and we started talking about coffee. This man knows pretty much all there is to know about beans! He even treated me to a shot of espresso the way he likes it, which was delicious. The espresso has serious crema and tastes so clean and fresh. He then gave me a taster of the Burundi, which was out of this world! It’s so sweet and bright and will be a great way to start out my mornings. We got a pound of Burundi and a pound of espresso blend to take home. If you buy beans and aren’t going to use them right away, they’re happy to seal the bag with nitrogen to keep it fresh for you. You definitely don’t get this service at the chain shops. A pound of coffee was $ 14 and some change, which is an absolute steal for how fresh and unique their beans are. This is a legit coffee house. In fact, their coffee shipments are on display underneath the menu. They only roast 5lbs at a time so you’re getting fresh espresso — not something that’s been open and growing stale for who knows how long. Pam and Joseph are an absolute delight. I had a great time drinking the best coffee and learning at the same time. If you’ve tried the big chains and think you don’t like coffee, give Desert Wind Coffee Roasters a try. You might actually change your mind!

Friendly service and great coffee, roasted in-house! Tucked away into a hidden spot at Sahara and Buffalo, Desert Wind is a quiet spot to snag a cup. Highly recommend the Breaking Bad, a slightly-sweet two-shot espresso drink. Hopefully they will expand their snack/pastry selection, they currently just carry a couple of cookies and muffins.

Best espresso I have had in Las Vegas thus far! My sister dragged me here when all I wanted to do was stay in from the heat, but the trip was so worth it! Joe and Pam are so friendly and knowledgeable. I also love that they roast their beans in-house. From visiting countless coffee shops, I usually judge by one of three items: espresso, cold brew(or iced coffee if not available), or house brew. I needed a quick jolt and ordered a doppio over ice. The coffee had an amazing depth and bitterness that was absolutely amazing! I would definitely suggest visiting!
