Mandalay Bay-Excalibur Tram

I’ve been to Las Vegas annually (for roughly 1 week at a time) and this was the first time I tried the Mandalay Bay — Luxor — Excalibur tram. I’ve never had any reason to journey south of Tropicana/​MGM before and the one time that I did, I was with some friends and we had a car.
I found the tram to be great. I used it during my April 2016 vacation when I decided to go to Mandalay Bay to take some pictures as well as visit the hotel/​casino and I didn’t feel like walking in the Las Vegas heat. My only complaint would be that it is somewhat on the small side and there are not a lot of seats (however, it is only 2 stops or 1 stop to your destination).
Best of all it is free and air conditioned.
For this trip, I rate them 4.5 stars (which rounds up to 5).

Convenient way to get between Excalibur/​Mandalay/​Luxor. Pick up up right on the corner of the strip before Excalibur. Saves you a bit of walking when exploring the end of the strip.

Love this Tram! Walking in Vegas is no joke people. The MBE is dope, air conditioned and fast! Did I mention it’s also Free??? Yes Free so enjoy it. Runs ever 3 – 5 minutes
Two options:
The local which makes stops at Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay.
The express which skips the Luxor and takes you directly to Mandalay Bay or Excalibur.
We used this tram to get out Michael Jackson One show, Jabbawockeez show and the Shark Reef aquarium! So leave a little early, save the mileage on your feet and enjoy a free air conditioned ride in Vegas!

Easy on and off transportation system going back and forth from Mandalay Bay, Excalibur. Not sure of the exact time between each team arrival, but the wait time is minimal.

The tram is great. It’s easy to find and comes pretty often. It’s FREE. I’d recommend it if you’re trying to save your feet to walk later.

Love the tram! When we don’t feel like paying for the monorail the tram is perfect to get over to a few casinos! It’s only on one side though so be prepared to cross the street when wanting to be near planet Hollywood, Paris, etc!

A great way to get to to the south end of the strip. This will save you some walking for sure. Trams run regularly and the wait is short. This tram has been running for a number of years now. It looks a bit older, but still gets the job done. One train is an express; the other stops at the Luxor

The Mandalay Bay-​Excalibur tram (abbreviated MBE tram) is short on distance and huge on potential. The MBE tram travels on a 2,749 foot long dual guide way that serves Mandalay Bay, the Luxor, and Excalibur-​currently all MGM Resorts properties. On each guide way, there is one tram containing five cars.
Regardless that both guide ways connect Mandalay Bay to the south with the Excalibur to the north, there are differences between the two. The outer guide way is an express route that runs between the northeast corner of Mandalay Bay to the northeast corner of the Excalibur at the Las Vegas Strip at Tropicana pedestrian bridges. It passes right by the Luxor. This is a quick ride that I timed at two minutes. The inner guide way is a shorter route that stops outside the Luxor near the Sphinx and terminates at the southeast corner of the Excalibur requiring a walk through the casino to reach the Las Vegas Strip at Tropicana pedestrian bridges.
When I visited Las Vegas before moving here in 2004, there was a greater need for the MBE tram was necessary. This was before the Mandalay Place Mall connected Mandalay Bay to the Luxor. Minus a tram, people would have to cross Mandalay Bay Road (also known as Hacienda Drive) outside the controlled temperatures of the casinos. Currently the MBE travels outside a trilogy of three connected MGM Resorts casinos. Still, when I am staying at Mandalay Bay in the southern boondocks of the Strip, the MBE tram saves me time and energy when I am walking to and from the Central Strip. The only problem is that the tram currently shuts down at 10:30 PM on weeknights. What? Isn’t Las Vegas a ²⁴⁄₇ town? Because people staying at Mandalay Bay and Luxor come to live up the nightlife that Las Vegas offers, it is futile to close the most efficient means of traveling to the property after 10:30 PM on weeknights.
The MBE tram is a vital link serving locals travelling between Mandalay Bay and the Central Strip. Everybody knows that driving on the Las Vegas Strip is more nerve-​wracking than the New York — New York roller coaster. The locals that are cognizant of the Frank Sinatra Drive service road that connects to the parking garages of the casinos fronting the west frontage of the Strip utilize the Mandalay Bay and Luxor parking garages. Coming from Henderson, I drive a short distance on Russell and Frank Sinatra Drive, pull into the Mandalay Bay parking garage, then take a stroll through the tropical themed casino, and after a few minutes waiting in the air conditioned waiting area, ride the comfortable tram to the northeast Excalibur station.
The MBE passes ordinary scenery. When I look to the right I see the Tropicana, two tall pillars on the ferris wheel that seems to be a figment of a developer’s imagination, a church, an Arco, and underutilized land use in the shadow of McCarron International Airport. It is from the Strip that the monororail itself is an extraordinary scene. Where else can you see a monorail connecting a pyramid with an oversized Disney castle? When I stand at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard at Mandalay Road, I feel like I am in an adult Disney Land watching the monorail pass by the Castle in a world of imagination.
In the mind of a creative transportation visionary there is a world of imagination in the potential of the MBE tram. If I could be elevated from Daniel. S Unilocaler to a Las Vegas transportation visionary where money is no object, this would be my plan. Toward the south, I would bring it all the way to the M alongside the west side of the Strip The stops would include from North to south: Welcome to Las Vegas sign, a future transit oriented development at Warm Springs with a bridge to the outlets, South Point, and temporary end at a transit oriented development near the M. Toward the north I would bring it inside the tall New York New York casino just like the Magic Kingdom’s monorail passes through the Contemporary Resort with a stop for New York — New York /​Arena/​and Monte Carlo. From this point the City Center monorail could expand to serve the casino Strip. At this point the MBE monorail would travel to Chinatown and ultimately have a temporary end at the underutilized parking lot of the Plaza in downtown.
If only transportation planners could see some of the potential of the MBE tram, it would be far better. I remember when the Las Vegas Monorail was the MGM to Ballys Monorail in the late 1990s. The RTC had a vision to turn it into the Las Vegas Monorail. Before transportation planners possibly touch on its potential, MGM Mirage needs to expand the hours of the tram to compliment the needs of visitors and residents of a ²⁴⁄₇ city. In my book, the MBE tram runs on a 3 star rating.

We went to Vegas for my brother’s wedding last week. We were headed back to Excalibur from Mandalay Bay when without warning our team slams to a stop mid-​track. My mom was on a scooter and my 7 month old son was in a stroller, both of which two wheeled and would have gone completely over if my husband and I hadn’t been standing next to them to stop them. It did however knock my 2 ½ year old down to the ground. A little communication would have been great so everyone knew this was actually a roller coaster, not a peaceful tram ride between hotels.

I am only writing the review because I got to ride this tram twice.
Last time I was on it I thought it stopped at the luxor. I guess there is a new route where it goes from the excalibur straight to mandalay bay. The group I was with (some drunks on a bachelor party) rode the tram with a group of tourists. They were so embarrassed when they realized we went back to the Excalibur (since we didnt get off at mandalay bay) that they decided to skip the shame and get off as if they were traveling the other way. We were obviously too intoxicated to feel any shame for taking the tram twice.
A sign would have helped :)
Otherwise, smooth ride, makes it easy to get to the further places on the strip.

This came in super handy after walking through the Titanic and Bodies exhibits for a good two and half hours.
We didn’t have to wait longer than 5 min for it to show up.
It’s completely free and services until 12:30 pm!

This tram is really good to ride when you’re too lazy to walk and it’s hot outside. My wife and I rode the tram from Luxor to Excalibur. The tram takes you from Mandalay Bay to Luxor to Excalibur. This tram is definitely worth the ride since it is free and it comes by pretty fast and frequent. Definitely use the tram if you are trying to get from Mandalay Bay to Excalibur. The tram has AC as well. You aren’t riding on it for that long so at least it’s a pretty quick ride to wherever your next destination is.

Ok– the tram/​monorail thing is a little confusing. This is the best site I found to help explain how it works:
I was staying at the Tropicana and had to get back and forth from Mandalay Bay, and the forecast was for 105+ all week. It was a little hard to figure out which stairway exactly to go up to get the tram.
The good:
It is airconditioned and faster than walking… and free!
The bad; It’s a little hard to find out where exactly to get on and off
The ugly: (1) The station you leave from (if you are coming from the Trop) is DIFFERENT than the station you get off at when returning. On my way back, I stayed on because I didn’t recognize the stop. It wasn’t until the doors closed and we were going backwards that I realized I should have gotten off. I heard some British tourists in my car also had the same exact problem. There should be better signage at the stations, or an announcement in the car, or a map, or something. Of course, you only make this mistake once.
(2) Going from the Excalibur to Mandalay is a straight shot, but coming back from Mandalay to the Excalibur stop, they also stop at the Luxor for some reason. Which means, if you want to go from the Luxor to Mandalay, you have to go out of the way first (though I guess you could just walk since they are pretty close).
Pro tip: If you are at a station, look in-​between the tracks. There is a thick metal cable there that the tram is attached to. It gets pulled from the far end. If the cable is still, the train is stopped. So, you can look at the metal cables under the track to see if the train is coming towards you or moving away from you. Since there are only 3 stops, you can figure out when when to be ready to get on board.

This Tram made it super convenient to get to Mandalay Bay.
We were on the way to the shark reef aquarium and it was like 110 degrees out.
Thankfully this was air conditioned, and quick! Not much wait time between the trams also. So you weren’t stuck in the hotness for too long!

I LOVE THIS TRAM. It makes it so much more convenient to move around from NY-​NY to Mandalay Bay. The tram entrance is RIGHT THERE when you cross over the bridge to go to Excalibur north-​south from NY-​NY. I had to get to Mandalay bay and the 100+ degree heat would have destroyed me.
The waiting areas are nice and air conditioned, as well as the tram. The tram itself was pretty clean, with all kinds of people riding around.
In case you didn’t already know. it’s FREE. For now.

(a.) It should be kept running later than what it currently is scheduled to operate. (b.) It should get beautified in some way (looks like it came out of the early 1990s) or perhaps entirely new tram-​cars put on those tracks. (c.) It should be kept running later than what it currently is scheduled to operate.
Does it move you from X to Y (or straight to Z)? Sure. Does not mean that it cannot be improved, as it should, considering this is Las Vegas, and, frankly this Mandalay Bay-​Excalibur Tram is kind of embarrassing. — E

Interesting, bit the hours are terrible! If you are looking to catch the tram late night on a weeknight to the Luxor from Mandalay Bay, forget it. You are better off walking or taking a taxi.
Yes, the tram is free, but is anything every free? You’re in Vegas! It’s very clean, safe and convenient, but if you are in a rush you are better off walking. At least the times we were taking it, it seemed to take forever. There are two trains, one that is non stop from the Excalibur to Mandalay Bay and the other that stops at Luxor.

This tram is fun to ride to and from the Excalibur. This is conveniently located in front of Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay.
