I love Nelson and Sylvia Q.‘s Steppin’ Out series. They are always a blast. Getting to see friends and talking about nothing in particular is always pleasant. Add in desserts and I am in heaven. I, somehow, made my way to the front of the line and was in a rush to order. I didn’t realize that I would have to wait the longest until I could enjoy my food. Damn you manners and etiquette’s! This fat kid was not only the one to cut everyone else to secure the goodies, but I also got four items to gorge on. The apricot tart lived up to its name. It had a lip puckering effect. Add a scoop of green tea ice cream and heat it up for the perfect treat. The strawberry crêpe cake was good, but more beautiful than anything else. Strawberries are not my favorite fruit to begin with, so maybe that is what made it lackluster. The green tea cake was heavenly. Light and fluffy. I could have ordered three more. The yuzu panna cotta was the talk of the Unilocal thread. I was in love. I definitely had to sneak in front of Lisa R. just to guarantee that she wouldn’t order all four for herself. It had the tartness of Greek yogurt and was easy on the palate. I just wished that it was not as firm as it was. Otherwise it was perfect. I had a few bites of Michael K.‘s items. The apple tart is as delicious as it was beautiful. Add a scoop of house made vanilla to it. The B.A.T. crêpe was well balanced. Creamy avocado, crispy bacon, spicy arugula, and sun dried tomatoes? Yum! I could have ordered one of those for myself, but I already look at myself in disgust at this point. That didn’t stop me from trying Anthony T.‘s chestnut mon blanc. The general consensus was that it resembled and tasted similar to a tiramisu. I love Unilocal events. Thanks again to Suzuya for setting a table aside for us and to Nelson and Sylvia for hosting.

There were HELLAFLAKES for this latest installment of the«Steppin’ Out» series which is the chance you take hosting a UYE.(Thanks Guys!).Luckily for our party of 8, we even had a section reserved for us which was nice, and we also had a great time regardless of the no-shows… I thought each person was gonna order one or two items, but man, was I wrong! We ordered up enough items that was probably enough to feed about 15 – 20 people! I loved seeing the pink bows on some of the desserts in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness which was a very nice touch. Chef Misuzu and the rest of Team Suzuya were on top of things from start to finish, answering any questions we had, and constantly checking on us to make sure we were taken care of. We ate and ate until we were content, and none of us had a guilty feeling afterwards! Thanks to all of those who attended, it was a great way to start a day with you all, and also BIGMAHALO to Chef Misuzu and the staff at Suzuya for having us! We will most definitely be back… ALOHA!!! Lisa plus Japanese UYE equals duh. I would never miss this one! I worked out before at Pittman Wash. When I arrived, I saw lots of happy Unilocalfriends congregating around the case of freshly placed pastries and treats. Several people went for it and ordered many items from the case and even some crepes! I was honored because everyone was willing to share different things too. I ordered the yuzu panna cotta(thanks for the buzz on that, Christina W!!!) — there were only 4 so I slid my way to the front part of the line to ensure my happiness. I also got annin dofu — almond flavored gelatin with fruit. I really liked both desserts. They were so light and delicate that I felt good about myself and nothing was too sweet. I also tasted some of David S.‘s green tea cake, Nelson Q.‘s chestnut parfait, and Michael K.‘s fuji apple tart with house-made vanilla bean ice cream. Everything was soooo oishi and I was able to get my favorite ito en Jasmine Green tea to wash it all down. Thanks to Nelson and Sylvia for hosting us and Suzuya was very welcoming. The chef took a photo of us for her facebook page!
