Following the Business Insider article, Muncher was the bakery for Kansas. We tried the mini orange roll, strawberry knot, apple strudel, apple fritter, and the cinnamon nut Danish. Favorite was the apple strudel, second was strawberry knot. A little disappointed in the rest. Especially the orange mini roll.(I love anything orange) It tasted like glaze with a drop of orange. Tip: They ONLYTAKECASHORCHECK.

We can’t possibly be the only ones in Lawrence to be continually disappointed in this bakery?! We went several times about a year ago, loved the strawberry cream cheese doughnuts, until we discovered that the inside was full of raw dough! Went a couple more times thinking it was a fluke, again and again raw dough! I msg them privately for the benefit of the doubt and we just didn’t go back. We were in the area a couple days ago and decided to give it a try… The only difference was the color of the frosting was now pink as was the interior cream cheese/strawberry filling(used to be thick cream cheese but I’m assuming it’s now mixed?) but still raw dough. Why can’t they infuse this stuff after they bake so the inside isn’t left raw? We then ordered a cute V-day coffee cake in the shape of a heart, we got home… Was a round coffee cake they pulled off a back shelf, nothing special about it. We were so disappointed, it felt like the old bate and switch routine or something! They have all the heart shaped ones in the window but put round ones in the bags!!! Sigh… We will not be going back again! We’d rather run over to Wheatfields where we know the pastries are worth their weight in gold!

I went there last night and the donuts were mostly gone by that time. I don’t know how often they bake fresh donuts but they weren’t there when I arrived. Having a broader selection available throughout the day may be a lot to ask, but it would make the experience better for those who like their donuts in the evening. I do love their cream cheese donuts. I tried the strawberry cream cheese and it was decadently satisfying as their cream cheese donuts always are. To be honest a lot of their donuts seem similar to me. That is glazed and somewhat dense. My date had a fritter which I tried and it was good too. The guy behind the counter was curt.(His attitude not his name). This certainly detracted from the experience. I’m sure he has to tell people often they only take cash or check, so why not be friendly about it. And when I asked about the donuts he told me as if I was stupid for not knowing. The two negative stars are for the limited selection late and the guy’s attitude. Otherwise the donuts are definitely some of the best you can get in Lawrence.

All I can say is that the éclair and the cream puffs are great, flavor of the cream comes through, éclair is flaky good. Customer service, and I mean a smiling welcome by that, might not be there depending on the person at counter but, heck those bakes are phenomenal, don’t even care about that. Recommended! Stop by and get an éclair and a cream puff.

A poor copy of the old Joe’s bakery. The store is dirty and outdated. Take a look at the dust on the display cakes. That will kill your appetite! They still refuse to take credit and debit cards, which is the height of poor customer service in this day and age. My biggest complaint though is that they really don’t care which items their customers want. They make a certain number and if they run out no more are coming. Buy what they have is their philosophy. If anyone opened another real bakery nearby, Muncher’s would be out of business in very short order. Where is Joe’s when you need it?

I don’t mean to talk badly about such a loved place, but it didn’t live up to the hype for me. I got a variety of items all at a great price. I got 2 mini orange rolls(the dough tasted off and had no orange flavor), a mini cinnamon roll(which was one of the best things I got), a snickerdoodle cookie(which was stale and I’ve had better at the grocery store), 2 sandie pecans(which were okay, but way better than the majority of things I tried that was such a disappointment), my favorite was the carrot cake cupcake, it was moist and yummy(sadly I ate this first and was extremely letdown by the baked goods after it). I will try here again when I’m in the area.

Open 24⁄7 and have the best cream cheese donuts I’ve ever tasted. At a place like this ambiance and frills don’t matter, ridiculously delicious donuts do. They delivered. It was well worth the drive from KC.

This place is OG, last of a dying breed, the working mans bakery, a place Archie Bunker would frequent. If you want something with gourmet coffee, a boulangerie per say, do a 180 and walk your ass out. If your a child of the 1970’s this will resonate. I love the stamped cake donuts and disco cup cakes. This is a place where you chase all that dough with milk, oj, or watery coffee. No frills, and worth the meager prices they ask, best appreciated at 4 am or any other random hour. Enjoy it while it still exists! Hey was that Barney Miller that just walked out with a bakers dozen???

The service was horrible. Had I been greeted by someone kind my experience may have been different. He was rude and dirty looking(dark haired man). We were not at all impressed with the quality of the donuts. Bring cash or check. The signs to alert customers they do not accept debit or credit cards were not very big. They conveniently have an atm inside at a hefty $ 2.50/transaction. On my way out the morning light illuminated how filthy the glass on the doors are.

Forget Dunkin Doughnuts, Krispy Kreme or whatever floundering attempt at fresh pastries you have tried before, Munchers is where it is at. Yes, yes it is open 24 hours but don’t let this fool you into thinking this is after bar fare – their doughnuts and pastries are delicious anytime and will challenge any other pastry shop to a duel and come out a top. The entire selection is very good. As it has been noted they obviously are not rolling doughnuts out every hour so I suggest asking for what is fresh and you will not be disappointed. Prices are very fair. Would frequent more but they are cash only which is an inconvenience in this age, but once you know this you can come prepared or if you are like me, scrap together your dashboard coins you had stored away for the toll road. A Lawrence tradition that will raise the bar on any future doughnut dining you will ever have.

I don’t understand the point of being open 24⁄7 when donuts are only well-stocked for about 1 hour in the day. And although I recently visited around 2AM(not expecting great service nor fresh donuts), I will not tolerate the older guy behind the counter ignoring me for 20 minutes and then having the audacity to be rude. Really? He is driving money away from the store.

I know two stars seems harsh. I lived in Lawrence when I was going to KU and I spent a lot of time at Munchers. Usually my experience is delightful. I enjoy an AMAZING cream cheese doughnut and all is right with the world. But currently they have a gentleman working there that is less than pleasant. I stopped in while in Lawrence to get one of these delectable treats — which they are famous for — I say«Hello. Do you have any cream cheese doughnuts?» And he just shakes his head and rudely says«Nope.» No, I’m sorry or any kind of apology. Usually this doesn’t bother me. But my friend had just said as we were driving there«I haven’t had much luck with this place. They have about 10 doughnuts in their case and the gentleman working there is super rude.» And I said«No way. You must have been there on an off day.» Well. Same guy. Same situation. Too bad.

24⁄7 donuts? Heck YES. The fresh glazed donuts are delicious, especially at four in the morning when you are pulling an all-nighter. The coffee is nothing special, but the donuts are worth every penny!

Wow! I LOVE this place!!! Where else have you ever heard of a bakery that’s open 24⁄7?! How cool is that?! That’s definitely not the only thing that makes Muncher’s Bakery amazing — It’s definitely the pastries and donuts that they make. I have yet to try one thing that I do not like. Considering that a couple miles away you’ve got a few cupcake shops that price gauge the heck out of you for one cupcake for $ 3(!!!), Muncher’s is VERY fairly priced. Most donuts are about 95 cents. If you’re not sure of what to get, my favorites are: Cream puffs, Eclairs, Maple iced cinnamon rolls and the danishes. A have a friend who absolutely LOVES the cream cheese brownies… I will have to try one next time I go. :) Forget about the complaints that this place doesn’t use credit/debit cards. Get some cash or write a check, it’s totally worth it.

I give munchers a 3 starts because all of the good times we’ve hand but I’ve been seeing its darker side lately. A couple months ago I decided to treat my siblings to this wonderful place only to end up not getting anything upon seeing a cockroach in the display! The cashier seemed unfazed while we were clearly disturbed to find this. Recently I’ve been steering away from munchers partly because of construction but mostly because the past two time I’ve gone there has been a lack of donuts. For a 24⁄7 donut place I dont expect everything to be fully stocked all the time but at least have some type of donut or cinnamon roll around 7pm, which isn’t such an odd hour. On the bright side their coffee is surprisingly good despite being 75¢ coffee. Its not burnt, its not fancy, just right. And their cream filled stuff is pretty decent too, even though I find most of what they have to be to bland for me. I would usually get an éclair and a pudding ball. And this place never closes, even in a snow storm haha! My first year of college I’d frequent this place once a week at 2am. And they still had a wide variety of thing to pick, or at least most nights. I don’t know what has changed but I do hope they took care of whatever roach problem they were having.
