My wife and I stayed at The Oread for one night. We did not want to leave! The room was spacious and offered a very nice terrace with beautiful views of Lawrence and KU. The room was A+. The staff was very friendly as well. Late check out was no problem. We ordered breakfast service. It was delicious and fairly priced. The B&G was on point! The Bird Dog Lounge offers a nice space to relax, grab a drink, catch a game, read a book, etc. The barkeep was cool and complemented the vibe of the place nicely. Be sure to check out the Nest — up on the rooftop. This would be a great place to watch the sunset or share conversation with friends. The city lights at night were spectacular. Check this place out if you are staying in Lawrence. It’s a very nice hotel and the rates are fair. We’ll be back!

Fantastic hotel, great staff, and my favorite hotel in Kansas. Treat yourself for the Terrace room, it has fantastic views of KU and has as much if not more outdoor space then indoor space. Callie is fantastic, friendly, and made sure my mom got her favorite room. The room service was on time and was delicious. Also all items we ordered we hot meaning they were delivered right after being prepared. Can’t wait to go back !

The Oread is a strange bird. On concept and potential, we’re looking at 5 stars all the way. However on multiple experiences from when they first built it until now, we’re settled firmly at 2 stars. I had tried to book them for a stay online and it didn’t work — when I called it rang and rang for 10 minutes before disconnecting. This was years ago, and I tried recently for a wedding block and got the exact same treatment. I’ve had brunch here on Easter a few times — great company, and love the look and feel of the room, however, the service has always been a bit off and on the whole, the experience isn’t quite what it could be. I think they’re able to get away with a lot because the location is prime and the hotel options are limited in Lawrence on the whole. I’m disappointed, and while I love that there’s a hotel on campus, I sort of miss the days of The Crossing and Yello Sub in this spot.

Back in the late 80s, I went to school at KU. In the current location of the hotel stood two businesses. One was a sub shop called Yellow Sub and they’re still around in Lawrence. The other was a bar called Crossroads. I was a frequent visitor to both locations and I would be sad to see them gone. Well, after a beautiful sunny day on the rooftop of the Oread sipping a drink with my wife(who I met 30 years earlier in the same spot) I realized that change is always good! Even if you do not stay at this hotel you must visit the rooftop. Do not miss. Great service from the bar and friendly staff all around!

Not that impressed. I’ve been trying to book a room at the Oread for a few years now — and now that I finally have — I gotta say that I’m not all that impressed. While it’s cool to stay on campus and the bar and restaurants are good — I’d rather be at the Eldridge downtown where there is more around to do. The parking situation here is ridiculous — valet is totally disorganized. They run out of spaces pretty fast and so you actually get turned away — can’t even valet park. Also — if you are not out of your room by 8am you do not get maid service — they tell you to call down for more towels and what not. While the building is cool and the rooms are nice, I don’t think it’s worth the money and I’m not likely to stay here again. I much prefer the Eldridge or the Marriott on New Hampshire.
