Cafe Aromas – Bakery Cafe

I was looking to waste an hour in Lawrencevile, grab some coffee and avoid Starbucks if possible. I have nothing against SB I just wanted to try sticking to local. Anywho, I found this place on Unilocal do I thought I would try it out. It’s a new establishment as I was told by the nice women making my coffee that they had been about about two months. The pile of molding, fixtures and other construction paraphernalia indicated that as well. Being someone who has opened a local family owned establishment I am very forgiving of such things since I have been there myself. However, my forgiveness stops there. This is a coffee shop and bakery according to it name yet when I walked in at 10:50am there were no pastry in the pastry cabinet and what I did inquire about on the counter was for display only and not actually available. I was told what was available in the back and made my selection based on those. I decided on an apple turn over and an iced caramel coffee with skim milk. The coffee was more milk that coffee and although I have no proof bc I could not see the carton I’m doubting that it was skim milk that I received. As for the apple turnover you can imagine my disappointment when I was offered a cold (obviously sitting in the fridge) less than fresh pastry. No, this establishment did not advertise that this pastry was made on premises or that it was even homemade but I had high hopes and expectations of more. When I tried to pay I was told that they didn’t have any money to make change so could I use my debit card. All in all, not the best experience.

I was very disappointed. Ordered a vanilla latte. Paid more than the price on the menu, but I didn’t complain. My drink tasted like stale brewed coffee blended with milk and a little vanilla flavor. I was hoping for fresh, delicious espresso, and this was less than mediocre. Won’t be back.

What type of espresso store doesn’t open until 9 in the morning???

Tried them today for the first time. They make a tasty sandwich.

I live near here but finally visited because a friend told me about their wonderful cupcakes — and she was RIGHT!
This place is adorable and clean. The cupcake was awesome and the Diet Coke was cold. I will definitely be back!

The baked case is full of freshly made goods, with a friendly staff and mellow atmosphere. The coffee is illy, need I say more?
